Of course I knew I'd enjoy a trip to Botswana with Alexander McCall Smith's Mma Ramotswe and her No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency. Morality for Beautiful Girls is the third enjoyable book, and there are more!

I'm on the trail of greedy developers trying to force out the less fortunate from property with V.I. Washarwski in Burn Marks by Sara Paretsky.
Gumshoe Rock
by Rob LeiningerMortimer Angel #4, OK to read as stand-alone. Somebody slashes to top of Mort's (don't call me Mortimer) girlfriend's convertible and leaves a human skull. That kind of thing can mess up your whole afternoon. Fun, fast-moving mystery, I liked it a lot.
I finished:
A Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell
Rating: 4 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and I started reading (don't judge me):
Origin by Dan Brown
I just finished The Vacation. A fun, if unbelievable read.
Here’s my review:

I download Libby App to my Phone it where you can read books on your smart phone from your library here what i read
Now from my local library
Gone In Seconds, the second book by Ed James featuring FBI Special Agent Max Carter and his child abduction rapid response team. Fast paced and cleverly written. To be released June 12. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Wicked Boy: The Mystery of a Victorian Child Murderer by Kate SummerscaleThis true crime book is about Robert Coombes, who killed his mother when he was thirteen years old. If Robert had been hung his story would have ended there, but Robert was spared, and went on to become a respected member of society.
Very good book. 4 stars

The GunslingerJust finished Stephen Kings "Gunslinger" - the first part of his "opus magnum" "The Dark Tower" and already a classic. A good read with a surreal atmopshere and pictorial descriptions. I will definitely join Roland on the next part of his journey...

I read this book, and thought Summerscale added way too much extraneous stuff here that detracted from the reading. Have you read her The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher? Of the two, I thought that one was much better.

Nancy at first I thought Summerscale was including too much extraneous material, and I was annoyed. But then I found that it was quite interesting to me. Sort of a twofer....true crime and history.
I haven't read The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. Maybe I'll see if I can find it. Thanks for the suggestion. 😊
I just finished The Housekeeper
I’m in the minority, but it didn’t work for me. Here’s my two star review:

The Cold Cold Ground by Adrian McKinty. Good setting, cliched characters. Not bad but have read better stories with a similar narrative. Rating - 3/5

Just finished:
Unspeakable Acts: True Tales of Crime, Murder, Deceit, and Obsession
by: Sarah Weinman
An interesting collection that somehow falls short of its goals. My full review:

The Water Room
by Christopher FowlerBryant and May #2, OK to read as stand-alone. 2nd volume in the Peculiar Crimes Unit series, set in England. An elderly lady has drowned in her otherwise-dry basement and the Peculiar Crimes Unit is called in. Very entertaining entry in the series -- very English, very fun.
Slonský's First Murder by Graham Brack is a free short story that's a prequel to his popular series about my favourite clever and amusing Czech detective.
Link to my 'Slonsky' review which includes a link to the story online
Silver, by Aussie author Chris Hammer, follows journalist Martin Scarsden from Hammer's popular Scrublands. It's not quite the relaxing move to the coast Scarsden was hoping for, but it's a good read!

Just finished:
The Night Swim
by: Megan Goldin
Well-done thriller with timely topics. My full review:

^ yeah I started to fantasise about visiting Italy and their gorgeous food also every time it mentioned coffee I had to have coffee lol so caffeine drinking game anyone lol
Outsider
by Linda CastilloIn this 12th book in the 'Kate Burkholder' series, the Chief of Police learns about serious corruption in the Columbus, Ohio Police Department. There are flashbacks to Kate's early career as a police officer, which is interesting.
The book can be read as a standalone.
Good thriller. 3.5 stars

Atmospheric and a little creepy
The Red, Red Snow by Caro Ramsay https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...and my webpage https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
The Summer House by Lauren K. Denton
Hidden Graves
by Jack FredricksonDek Elstrom #6, OK to read as stand-alone but I recommend reading a couple of previous entries first. Elstrom in a PI in Chicago and a job he takes from a mysterious client leads to complicated and deadly political intrigue. This is an excellent straight-ahead mystery (with a little humor) with great quirky characters and a world-class complicated plot. 4 stars, highly recommended.

I'll be interested in and will go back to your thoughts on this book once I've read it. I preordered it some time ago and I'm looking forward to it.

You're welcome.
I've finished but am slowly rereading the extraordinary The Rings Of Saturn; just about finished with Su Tong's Shadow of the Hunter and past the midpoint of Riot and Remembrance: America's Worst Race Riot and Its Legacy by James S. Hirsch.
After I finish those the plan is to read two crime novels --
Seven Years of Darkness by You-Jeong Jeong and Death, Discovery and Carne Asada by Thomas Curran, who wrote this book while walking across the US to raise money (over 20 thousand dollars!!!) for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.

Finished risky adventures of V.I. Warshawski in Chicago in Burn Marks by Paretsky and now have traveled back to the era of the British Raj with detective Joe Sandilands in his second outing: Ragtime in Simla by Barbara Cleverly
Over the last week, I finished Anarchism and Other Essays, by Emma Goldman, and the 3 volumes of Master Humphrey’s Clock by Charles Dickens. I started both a while back. Master Humphrey’s Clock actually contains three of his other novels and some stories, connected by a narrative.
I am currently reading The Wolves of Savernake by Edward Marston... goddamit he’s done it again... I am hooked.
I've been reading
Whispering Rock by Robyn Carr and listening to
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
Then She Was Gone
by Lisa JewellWhen a fifteen-year-old girl goes missing, her family falls apart. Then 10 years later, the girl's mysterious vanishing is slowly solved.
Okay psychological thriller. 3 stars
