Looks so good (always a sucker for a good cover!) but I can't handle anything bad kid-related. Have you read others by this author or was it his debut?

message 1455: by J.P. (new)

J.P. Choquette (jpchoquette) Currently reading, The Last Time I Lied and loving it. Last read, I'll Never Tell. Not only am I on a domestic thriller-crazed jag but both of these were set at summer camps.

BTW, I find summer camps and the insular nature of them very creepy. I'm glad my mother listened to my pleas and never made me attend as a kid!

Araych | 677 comments The Seventh Enemy The Seventh Enemy (Brady Coyne, #13) by William G. Tapply by William Tapply

Brady Coyne #13, OK to read as stand-alone. Boston lawyer Coyne gets involved with what looks like a bunch of gun nuts when his friend gets shot. I like the series, this is rather an average entry. Better than many mysteries, but not Tapply's best. 3 stars.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Reading some non-fiction right now, but next up is STREET MUSIC by Timothy Hallinan. It is supposed to be the final book in the Poke Rafferty thriller series. I do hate to see it come to an end, as I really liked the characters and the setting.

Aditya | 2017 comments The Glass Rainbow (Dave Robicheaux, #18) by James Lee Burke
The Glass Rainbow by James Lee Burke. Brilliant, brilliant prose, this should qualify as literature and not crime fiction. The series should have ended here, would be difficult to top the last scene. Rating - 5/5

Not mystery/crime lately (except for the group read, A Judgement in Stone) but I did finish the excellent The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree from Iranian (now Australian) author Shokoofeh Azar, the translator having withheld her name for safety reasons. Ponder that for a moment.

Also reading WG Sebald's The Rings Of Saturn, which I am also enjoying.

Araych | 677 comments The Lady From Zagreb The Lady from Zagreb (Bernard Gunther, #10) by Philip Kerr by Philip Kerr

Bernie Gunther #10, OK to read as stand-alone. Bernie is a cop in Berlin, 1936. This series takes Bernie from the mid-1930's through the war. Some stories are actual murder mysteries, some are more historical novels with a strong undercurrent of fear and paranoia. Very vivid and atmospheric with great historic, social and geographic detail. Four and a half stars, highly recommended.
