I highly recommend Dreadnought which is a book about a trans superhero by a trans writer. Warning that she has been struggling to get the final book in the series written.

Are we only going with authors who are alive today and use our contemporary terms or can we include authors who fit some of the definitions of nonbinary from the classics era? I ask because I have read all of Plato who writes the most about this sort of thing (so not going to reread him for this), but I am quite interested in the history of eunuchs and in what they had to say--some did this on their own by choice, it wasn't all little boys being forced to do this! I have a couple of authors who were eunuchs by choice. I realize that most of you probably know about this, but am explaining in case there is someone who doesn't (I have met people IRL who don't).

Alisia, yes it is. Or at least the ending wraps up enough that you’re not left hanging, no idea if she intends to revisit it later. Her next book, City in the Middle of the Night feels like there needs to be a sequel.

For a more historical perspective from a trans author, I would recommend Self: A Study in Ethics and Endocrinology or Out of the Ordinary: A Life of Gender and Spiritual Transitions by Michael Dillon. He was the first person to receive a phalloplasty and also helped in the first medical transition of a transwoman.

I think it would be fantastic to read non-contemporary authors for this. It would help further the understanding that while the current discussion of non-binary gender is new, the experience is not.

Great, because I have dragged my feet over reading church fathers for years as I disagree with the politics and fighting that was going on back then, but I really ought to go beyond Greek philosophy, etc!!!

I've seen Eddie live twice this decade, and he referred to himself as transgender both times. He's genderfluid. He was an Executive Transvestite because that was the best terminology he had at the time.

Trans doesn't always mean one gender to the other, it can just mean not the one I was assigned.
