Most of my inspiration for the book simply came from watching the war unfold as a Syrian American person and knowing people personally who were affected by the war. I've talked in more detail about what spurred me to write the book in some of my interviews below, including my interview on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/interviews/...), UConn Alumni Magazine (https://magazine.uconn.edu/2018/09/25...#), and Bookreporter (https://www.bookreporter.com/authors/...).
