I bought this book a few years ago and it's still on my 100+ deep shelves of books I need to get to. I seem to always pass it over for something else, but it sounds like it may be time to move it to the top of the TBR pile!

Have you read books by this author before? No but I am enjoying this one so far.

I have read other books by this author I loved The Invisible Man but not so much The Time Machine
I do like the way that like many classic authors he can pack a lot into a short novel. I know some classics are Loooong but I am thinking of people like Daphne Du Maurier and F Scott Fitzgerald

The Good People
2. Who is the author?
Hannah Kent
3. Have you read books by this author before?
Yes, I read Burial Rites

I found it quite insightful but the writing style was a little frustrating at times. It felt as though the author was focused on using interesting and descriptive language to the extent that it prevented him conveying ideas in a clear and understandable way. I really admired his honesty and openness about his experiences though and I’m definitely glad I read this.

2. Who is the author? Lindy West
3. Have you read books by this author before? No, I'd never even heard of her. I'm not sure if she has other books, but I want to read her articles.
I love a good feminist read, but I think my favourite type of feminism is that which relates the more high-brow theory to real life and does so with a hefty dose of humour, well seasoned with gutter talk. Lindy West serves up just my kind of dish. That she does so from the perspective of someone with a fat body just made this even more delicious. She slays trolls, comedians who trawl the trauma of rape for cheap laughs, and the nonsensical anti-abortion right, all whilst remaining honest and vulnerable about who she is and where she has been. As a comedy fan myself, she puts into words a lot of the feelings I have had when male comics make jokes about things which a) victimise those who have experienced them and b) which their privilege of being male means they are much less likely to experience. I know that crushing disappointment when a comedian you admire lowers himself to shock tactics to milk some laughs. I love that she takes a stand against the "you just don't have a sense of humour" argument used to silence minorities when they dare to question what is or isn't funny. I didn't know anything about Lindy before I read this book, but that doesn't detract from the reading experience, and having read her book I absolutely want to read more of her work.

I'm going to start Good Girls Do Swallow: The Darkly Comic True Story of How One Woman Stopped Hating Her Body and her surname is double barreled. both names are one syllable but would you say this doesn't quite fit or i can get away with it? I'm a stickler for the rules :D
