The Story of Us (Carnage, #1) by Lesley Jones
Finished: 1/10/15
Rating: ★★★
Georgia is annoying and hypocritical throughout much of this book which made it frustrating to read at times. But it was almost hard to stop reading because the story was good for the most part after a slow start. I enjoyed the setting in the 80's. The author's writing style was weird to me but she does preface the book with the fact that she is using UK English and includes a glossary of terms. I did not realize how different UK English is from American English. I liked Cam the most and will probably read the second book in this series just to find out what happens with him.

Ezi, I have enjoyed this series so far and rated all of the books 4 stars, except for the prequel. I don't love them like most everyone else seems to based on the reviews though. I did not like what happened with Blake at the end of Opal and what he did to Katy. I guess I should expect it by now though.

Finished:1/12/2015
Rating:****
This is one of my favorite series and I hope there will be more...
Nick –Leader of the half-breeds and the last true hero. He’s spent his life fighting a dark pull toward the gods. A pull he now knows is linked to his father Krónos and the Titan’s plan to escape from the Underworld.

But Nick’s hidden powers are coveted by more than just his father. Imprisoned by Hades, Nick battles every form of torture imaginable as the sadistic god schemes to break him. Only one thing is keeping him sane. One woman who gives him the strength to fight the relentless darkness. She has a dangerous plan of her own, though, and as Nick’s powers grow stronger, even she might not be enough to alter his destiny.

As the fate of the world hangs in the balance, Nick’s allegiances are tested. And no one knows whether he will choose to fight for good or succumb to the sinister lure of evil. Not even him.

Take a Chance (Chance, #1) by Abbi Glines
Finished: 1/13/15
Rating: ★★★★
Abbi Glines has a way of sucking the reader in with drama. I have loved Grant from the beginning of this series so I am glad to finally get his story. He and Harlow are a perfect match, despite the obstacles in their path. And of course Nan is her usual bratty self, always trying to get in their way. But Harlow is a feisty little thing and finally fights back. The ending is surprising, but I am still looking forward to the next book.

Hammer of the Scots (Plantagenet Saga, #7) by Jean Plaidy Hammer of the Scots by Jean Plaidy (Plantagenet Saga #7)
Finished: 13 January 2015
Rating: ****

The 7th part of Plaidy's Plantagenet Saga brings us the rule of Edward I, mostly remembered as a strong king whose prosperous rule saw England and Wales united and whose ambition to bring Scotland under English rule led to the apprehension and execution of the Scottish rebel William Wallace. A rather idealized portrait of a king also known for a terrible temper, the expulsion of the Jews from English soil and a few other unsavoury events which are only hinted at in these pages, the book instead focuses chiefly on Edward as a family man. Seen through the eyes of his mother, wives and daughters, he is pictured as a loving husband and doting father. While I enjoyed the novel, I would have liked to see a stronger emphasis on Edward as a warrior and ruler than as husband and father - a bit too much dialogue and too little action to really do the subject justice.

I am baffled at what the author did in this one. Nick, was a twin and thus he was also the soul mate to Queen Isadora. The problem was Isadora chose to mate His twin.
While being held prisoner in the underworld by Hades son Zagreus, Nick fell for his mistress of torture, Cynna.
The issue became soul mate bond versus free will bond. I don't like how the choice was explained.

Book:
Raphael (Vampires in America, Book 1)
Read: 1/15
Rating & Review: ★★.
I have read this book before but I was told by goodreads friends that I should give it another shot since it's been a couple of years. They claim that this book must be read with book 2 immediately following. So I tried the audiobook.
2 years later and I still don't like this book. There isn't anything wrong with her, it just doesn't engage me.
Story: Vampire Lord Raphael was just betrayed by one of his own, and they kidnapped his ward Alexandra. Raphael suspects that someone much stronger convinced Albin to turn against him but he doesn't have evidence to prove who the ring leader is.
Raphael asked Cynthia to assist him with the investigation of the kidnapping, particularly ferreting out the humans who participated in the crime since the betrayer used humans in order to orchestra the kidnapping.

As they work together, they develop an attraction to each other. Part of my problem is that I don't "feel" the chemistry. I didn't connect with either Cyn nor Raph. It was a tad boring actually. But I will read Jabril, book 2 because I agreed to.

I think the writing as well as the plot just doesn't resonate with me.

Not just another run of the mill YA paranormal, Become offers a fascinating mix of Norse and Christian mythology in a fast-paced and intriguing tale of angels, demons and choosing one's destiny. The protagonist, Desi, is Lucifer's daughter, raised in hell and now sent to earth to embrace her heritage, but the people and experiences she encounters there might just lead her to choose a different path than the one her father intended for her... A great introduction to an imaginative world and interesting characters that I'm looking forward to returning to.

I was surprised by this book and really liked it...
The author of The Corset Diaries returns to the realm of the paranormal in this sexy, funny romance that pits Seattle-based Aisling Grey against Drake Vireo, a seriously handsome Parisian dragon in human form. In her job as courier, Aisling is to deliver a precious demonic artifact to a Mme. Deauxville in Paris, but she finds Madame freshly dead, surrounded by a circle of ash. The artifact is then stolen by the fast-talking Drake, who claims that Aisling is no mere courier but in fact a demon lord and his destined mate. Determined to play detective, Aisling summons up a demon only to find herself saddled with one, in the form of a slobbering Newfoundland who wants to go walkies. Drake wants to show her the way dragons mate, and then bodies seem to pile up all over Paris, making Aisling a corpse magnet and top suspect. It's going to take every screwy new ally she's got to solve this murder and adjust to her new life in a strange new world.

This book is a nice start to the Haven Point series. I did not realize it was a spin-off of the author's Hope's Crossing series, but I plan to read it as well. Haven Point is a charming small town with likable characters. It kind of reminds me of Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series. Aidan and Eliza were very sweet together and easy to root for. My only complaint is that the ending was a little rushed. I hope Aidan and Eliza make appearances in future books in the series so we can find out how Eliza revitalizes the town.

Then there are the two marriage proposals Hannah has yet to make her mind up about, causing the entire town to flood her with unsolicited advice on which of her potential partners to pick. I put this series to the side when I started the Fever series and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. This book got off to a little bit of a slow start but once the story picked up I was wrapped up in the Highlander world. I loved KMM's vivid and detailed descriptions of Scotland. The tension between Cian and Jessi was very entertaining. I also enjoyed the appearances by Daegus (my favorite Highlander), Drustan, Gwen and Chloe.

I am really liking this series.
We're the D'Artigo sisters: sexy, savvy operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But being half-human, half-Fae short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Delilah is a Were who turns into golden tabby when she's stressed. And Menolly's a vampire who's still trying to get the hang of being undead. As for me, I'm Camille D'Artigo, a wicked-good witch who's learning death magic with a youkai-kitsune husband. Until now, the Moon Mother has pretty much ignored me, but she's about to take me on the Hunt of my life...

Another equinox is here, and life's getting more dangerous for all of us. The past is catching up to our friends Iris and Chase. Smoky, the dragon of my dreams, is forced to chose between his family and me. To top it off, there's a new demon general in town, and we can't locate her. And when the Moon Mother and the Black Beast summon me to Otherworld, I think I'm just going to reunite with my long-lost soul mate, Trillian. But once there, I'm forced to undergo a drastic ritual that will forever change my life, and the lives of those around me.

Review: Starting a new series is always iffy but this time it paid off. It didn't take long to get drawn into this story and I enjoyed the ride and look forward to more.
Once, this was the City of Angels. The angels are no longer in charge. From the extravagant appetites of the vampire world above, to the gritty defiance of the werewolves below, the specter of darkness lives around every corner, the hope of paradise in every heart. All walk freely with humans in a tentative peace, but to live in Los Angeles is to balance on the edge of a knife. One woman knows better than most that death lurks here in nights of bliss or hails of UV bullets. She’s about to be tested, to taste true thirst. She’s about to regain the power she’s long been denied. And Fleur Dumont is about to meet the one man who may understand her: a tormented protector who’s lost his way and all he loved.
