Review

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, it did keep my interest, even though I figured out eventually who was behind everything. It was also nice to see Nick again, who's been absent the last couple books. On the other hand, it felt very jumpy/choppy, especially the first portion of the book, because every chapter was usually from a different character's perspective from the previous chapter. So it felt very choppy and took a while to find its stride. Once everything started to come together, the book went much smoother and was much more enjoyable. Despite my issues with this one, I will be continuing the series.

Review: Another good installment although I didn't love the open ending. I particularly like that the series will probably be moving on, now that some of the ghost issues are resolved. I'm sure the next book will introduce new problems, but at least the series is growing.

Bonus point for paranormal/urban fantasy classification

Valiant (New Species, #3) by Laurann Dohner by Laurann Dohner
Read Oct 30 2019
Rating 4stars.
How it fits- New Species #3

Review - Valiant is one of the New Species who looks more animal than human. He lives in a part of the Reservation where he can run and hunt and be left alone from the humans. Tammy is part of the catering crew and goes to the wrong house - Valiants. He takes her hostage and immediately claims her as his. She is returned and then later is taken hostage by an Anti New Species group and is roughed up but Valiant and others track her and rescue her. She once again is tricked and taken hostage by a doctor to try to have her breed with 971 - a caged New Species.
This is a very touching story and I love Valiant and how Tammy keeps him in line.

Review: The story alternates between the points of view of two women who’s lives were destroyed by disastrous circumstances, who find healing while residing in a very special house. In the spring of 1953, Everleigh Applegate is happily married and expecting her first child. But, her happiness is short lived when a tornado sweeps through Waco, Te, taking her dreams with it. Seven years later, she’s widowed and childless. She’s given up hope until she crosses paths with Don Callahan, an old high school friend. Beck Holliday is an angry, hardened New York police officer, who lost her father on 9/11. She learns that she’s inherited a house in Florida from an Everleigh Applegate, a woman she apparently knows, but can’t remember. Since she’s currently on suspension from work due to her anger issues, it’s the perfect time to go check out her inheritance. I enjoyed this story and how Rachel Hauck’s books feature imperfect people who are redeemed. It’s definitely one of her strengths.

I was nervous this book would feel too childish for me but it was actually very entertaining and had some subtle hilarious jokes within it. The book really takes you on an adventure and makes you sympathize with the main character for all he has been through.

Bonus point: Read a paranormal book on 10/25 roll

Review:
The thing I love about Nora Roberts books is that as soon as I turn the page I fall right in to them. This one was no exception it had me hooked from the first page. The first part of the book was really good however the second part I felt was a little rushed. Especially MC Zanes Dad making a re appearance. I did enjoy the book, just not my favourite.

Her two co workers insist that she was not killed and was still alive. A psychic is brought in to help solve the crime. Suspicion is placed on another person. Great writing and story movement.

NHL team captain Rook escapes to Alaska for some much needed time out and meets cute, shy Lainey. The two gradually get closers and start to fall for each other when Rook suddenly has to leave due to family issues. Fast forward year and they meet again and both have secrets they need to share.

The book was just ok. Quite obvious what was going to happen. I might read the next book in the series but I won't be rushing.

Review: You know it is a good series when I read the next installment immediately upon finishing. This one wasn't quite as good as #4, so I don't feel the need to grab #6 right away, but it was still a great sweeping story from Greg Iles. He writes family and heartbreaking situations so well. He ties the past and present together in very believable ways and he keeps you turning pages far into the night.

Bonus point for book over 500 pages (804 pages).

Blood Trade (Jane Yellowrock, #6) by Faith Hunter by Faith Hunter

Read: 11/7/19
Rating: 4 stars

Review

This is another strong entry in the series. I honestly would love to give it five stars because it's full of action, there aren't a lot of slow moments, and the continued addition of the Younger brothers adds so much to the series. However, we still have the love triangle, and that honestly brings it down a full star for me. I have never liked Rick. In fact, the one thing that I was not looking forward to when I started my reread of the series was having to go back through all the Rick stuff again. I have never understood what Jane sees in him. So any time she would be mooning over him, I would read faster so I could get it over with. Scenes with Bruiser, on the other hand, I read slowly because I love him and any scene he's in. All that being said, this is still a strong entry in the series, and I'm looking forward to the next one!

I enjoyed Paula Hawkin's other books (like Girl in the Train) but this one was a lot more difficult to follow. It had a lot of different characters perspectives which made me generally confused in the beginning. I listened to the audiobook and they all had different voices but I had to think and remember how each character fit instead of it being apparent. The story was kind of interesting but it could be better.

Review: First of all, moose be crazy. If there is one wild animal you should avoid like the plague and NOT follow into the woods, it is a moose. That said, the MC in the series has a serious case of cozy-mystery-stupiditis, so I'm not surprised. The mystery was okay, the story was okay, the peripheral characters were weird as expected. The big reveal has finally shown up in an overarching storyline that may or may not be interesting. I'll keep reading to see.
