Trea, Penni, PepperP0t & Ezi - Scanguards Vampires Series

If you can't find it, give me a shout. I saved it, in case you wanted to see it.

I found it! Thanks! Good goal you set up for me to start with, but after I played with my lists and discovered I've already gotten current on 7 series alone this year, we may need to up it at some point.

I had been setting 20-25 for people but I was told it was too high. I am current on 29 series myself, but I didn't want to overreach.
Tell me what you want your goal to be.

*laughs* This is me we're talking about here...even though I've been in a slump of late, I can feel it starting to crack, especially after finishing Reaper's Legacy. Let's set a goal of 30 for now, since I'm getting a late start. I figure I can always go over, if I need to.

Which reminds me! I told you I'd tell you what I thought of Reaper's Legacy, back when I read Property and you had said you didn't like it. I enjoyed Legacy, finding it much better than Property. That being said, there is a lot of sexism that happens in this book. Ruger is very controlling, even more so than Horse was, but the thing of it was, Sophie really wasn't using her brain for much of the book, and Ruger needed to be that kind of a-hole to protect her and her son from her cluelessness. I started it around 9:25pm EST last night and really couldn't put it down until I finished it this morning. I plan on rating it 4 stars, and I'm already looking for the next one from my library!

@Trea did you see this?
http://www.dailycheapreads.com/post/2...
my dilemma is that if I buy the collection, I can't get the audio at a discount. But at the same time, only book 1 is on sale individually (already bought it when you told me about it)
Hard decision huh? :(

I wasn't getting notifications for the thread again...*shakes fist at GR's notification system*, so I'll be a bit behind you on this one. I'm 48% through another book right now, but I'm about to go sit down and read it. I'll start Thomas right after!

I hadn't seen it, Ezi, thanks for the heads up!
I did the math, just for comparison's sake. To buy all four books, including the first we'd already purchased, it would be $22.96 not counting taxes. I'm not able to see what the discounted rate for the audios are on the other three, but if it stays true to the $3.99 rate on Welcome to Last Chance, it comes out to a total of $38.92 or $9.73 a book. The Bundle comes out to 1.49 a book, and that includes the $1.99 already spent on Welcome. I still haven't been able to go to audiobooks, thus why I'm lagging behind you so much on our "Who can read 400 books first?" challenge.
For me, I'm going to grab the bundle. It's more economical for me, and I like having a good bit of the series in one place. I'd say in your case, grab the bundle, then use Audible credits to get the books on audio. I just checked, the only ones available are Inn at Last Chance, Welcome to Last Chance, and Home At Last Chance, which is on pre-order right now. I've got 3 credits stored up, and nothing I really want to use them on. I'd be happy to give them to you as gifts, if you would accept them. Let me know?
Wow. So audible had books 1,5 & 7?
I might as well get the bundle and just read it. The novellas aren't on audio. It doesn't make sense what audible did to record out of order.

Thanks for the offer. That's so sweet of you.
Take your time. My flight was cancelled so I was at the airport from 4am to 11:45a so I had time to just sit and listen

Eddie is being really rude"
Agreed! I really hate how Eddie is treating Thomas, Thomas didn't do anything except hide the fact that he was attracted to Eddie. Which, I don't blame him for, considering that Eddie professes to be straight so much!

Yeah, didn't like how he played that at all! Coward! I think he's afraid of the reaction of others if he comes out as gay or gay curious. Even admitting he's bi is too much for Eddie!

Yup, that's what I found when I searched for the author on Audible's site. I was trying to find out if I could give the audiobooks as gifts, so I figured the info might be helpful to you in making the decision about the bundle.

Ugh, what a layover! Glad Thomas was a good way to pass the time!
I'm at 30% in. Not sure where she's going with the whole vampire army thing, and I can see her already setting up Luther's book. So far, it's interesting, but I'm not seeing a 4 star book as yet. Three yes, four no.
The army is to bring a bad guy into the mix. I like it.
I don't like how quickly a rude Eddie decided to try gay love
I don't like how quickly a rude Eddie decided to try gay love

Bad guy Kaspar was a shocker, but too convenient. Too simplistic to say "Oh, oh, I had an evil twin!! But I still love you/want you!" Didn't ring true, cause if he had why wasn't Kaspar tracking Thomas using the dark energy?
I could see where the rudeness was coming from, due to the brief flashbacks to Eddie's childhood. Eddie's rudeness was because he was being defensive about his true nature: being gay. However, Ms. Folsom undid it all in the end of the book with Nina's comment about Eddie not setting off her Gaydar. With how vehemently Eddie was against being gay, I got the feeling that the author was almost homophobic herself. It soured the book for me.
That being said, I did whip through it quickly, and it winds up being a 2.5 star read for me that I'll round up to 3 stars. I'll start Silent Bite: A Scanguards Wedding (1001 Dark Nights) later today.

That would be excellent
That would be excellent

Option #1: We read Cain's Identity in June as planned. Luther's Return would be read in July and Welcome to Last Chance would be read in August, starting off that new series. Blane's book would be tacked on to either the month of its release or the following month, whenever that might be.

Option #3: We go off grid and do something completely wacky that doesn't have anything to do with reading the Scanguards books! Cain would pick up in July, Luther in August, Welcome to Last Chance in September, Blane whenever he comes out.
If I recall correctly, summer is your tough to get reading time season, so I might get to catch up on our challenge! Let me know which option you think might work best for you. I'm pretty flexible and have left room for Luther in June, just in case.
Option 4. Read welcome to last chance in June along with Cains identity. Just to make sure we like Hope Ramsey before Scanguard vampires ends.
I'll read 8.5 tonight I think

I like Option 4! Let's run with it!
Shall we set up a separate thread for Last Chance?

I got the audio for Last Chance already since we saw that sale. I'm curious to try it out.
I'll put a note for Denise for our thread

Tis fine by me!

Update at Chapter 29: I'm bored. Too much deception and manipulation with too little explanation forthcoming. Comes off as a cheap way to build suspense.

I didn't think much of 8.5 what about you? I would have liked the secondary thread to be first with the 'cured' vampires.
in the League I'm on

I thought 8.5 was a largely unnecessary, but I did like seeing the interactions of Urusula's family.
I've read books 1-3 in the League series prior to joining GR and I remember enjoying them. At this point, I'm re-reading for review purposes. I rated the first book 3 stars though, so I think it holds up.

I really enjoyed the League and rated the first books higher than you did. Did you go farther than book 3 at all?

Well, I've only rated the first book so far, but we'll see how the next one goes. I'll likely be starting it tonight.
I hadn't gone farther than book three, but I've been keeping up on purchasing them for the most part, I think I'm only two behind.

In my opinion, the memory returning is too sudden and tied to something so stupid that I wonder why he didn't do it long before when he did in the book. We are painfully aware that he wanted to do so, yet he fought against it so much!
The story is a retelling of the Bible story of Cain and Abel, but it delves too much into vampire politics, which was extremely boring to me. The political maneuvering is broken up by "amazing" sex scenes, which felt forced and fake to me. Even the "I love you"s felt fake!
I think I'm going to be done with this series after Luther. I haven't liked Blake at all as a character in the entire time we've known him, and the quality of these recent stories are not worth the cost of them to me. In fact, I don't see myself re-reading them, and will likely be deleting them from my Kindle Library.

How bad was it for you? Had you read the books prior to this one? If so, what are your thoughts on the series as a whole?

The writing style was mostly on par with the others and overall I think more could have been done but we did get the potential of a new and exciting alliance with two more vampire clans.
This outing felt lazy and it might be time to take a break from it
This read followed the general formula but failed me in a couple of ways.

Started today and I am enjoying it. This series is so predictable, cliche and simple. I like that.
Cain and Abel--really though? LOL. Well, at least Abel is the bad guy here.
Is there a reason Cain didn't know his brother was a douche?
I am 1/3rd and Abel is trying to get the captain of the guard to take care of Cain.
