370. What do you consider to be a "beach read" book?

message 1302: by Debra Diggs (last edited May 27, 2021 08:10AM) (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments For me, a beach read book is very light reading. A book that does need a lot of thought. Something easy to look away from, look back, and pick right back up without losing your place.

Defining beach reads is interesting. I have seen people list thrillers as beach reads and that is something that I would never consider :)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments A beach read book to me is any book you want to read on the beach. I miss going to the beach to relax and read.

Yeah, I will throw some thrillers in as beach reads, especially if they have a summer setting.

I would totally agree with that.

372. What are some of your favorite fantasy books?

message 1311: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments One of my favorite sci-fi fantasy’s is the original Shannara Trilogy which I read in the 90s. It really pushed my love for reading as an adult.

373. What's the longest reading slump you've been in? How did you get out of it?

message 1314: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments It's definitely been months long before. I allowed myself to get everything else out of my system (watching tv, youtube, tik tok, etc.) before I tried reading again. I didn't force it.

message 1315: by Lacie (new)

Lacie DeGough (ldegough) | 56 comments I don't know if I've ever been in a reading slump longer than a week. (And usually that's just because I'm too busy. For example, last month I went on vacation to visit some friends and had no time to read for a little under a week.) I can't think of a specific time when I was consistently not reading anything, so I don't know if I can say how I get out of a reading slump.

message 1316: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments I’m not sure how long but it’s been months before. Basically I just pushed out of it one day. I sat down and either read a book I was really looking forward to or an old favorite.

These are some of my faves that I kept turning pages and didn't want to put down:
Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
No Exit by Taylor Adams

message 1319: by Lacie (new)

Lacie DeGough (ldegough) | 56 comments I'm bad with genres, so I'm not sure if these books fall under the "suspenseful thriller" category or not. But they were definitely thrilling for me! :)
.
1. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
2. Variant by Robison Wells
3. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
4. House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin Craig
5. The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

375. What are some of your favorite horror books?

message 1322: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments Krystyna wrote: "375. What are some of your favorite horror books?"

- Dracula by Bram Stoker
- The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey

message 1323: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I honestly don't read enough horror to have favorites. Does I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid count? If so, then that's probably my favorite.

376. What books are on your June TBR?

message 1327: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Right now the only book on my June tbr is The Hunting Wives by May Cobb. I'll be lucky if I even finish it this month.

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I didn't read anything last month.

message 1331: by Lacie (new)

Lacie DeGough (ldegough) | 56 comments The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. It was a re-read, but I'm so glad I read it again. That book has a special place in my heart. :)

378. What was your least favorite read last month? Why?

message 1333: by jb (new)

message 1334: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments Paris Cravings by Kimberley Montpetit was my least favorite. The main character was a twit.

380. What June book releases are you most excited for? Why?

message 1342: by Debra Diggs (last edited Jun 11, 2021 08:55AM) (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments I am not entirely sure these are both June releases.

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid, because I enjoyed Daisy Jones and the Six.
The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid, because it is supposed to be similar to Spinning Silver and The Bear and the Nightingale, both of which I enjoyed.

message 1343: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Malibu Rising by TJR
Very Sincerely Yours by Kerry Winfrey
Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams

I bought both of those books. I know the library has a physical copy of Malibu Rising and a physical copy of The Wolf and the Woodsman is on order. These are both anticipated releases for me too.

I'm excited to read Malibu Rising. I just need to read Evelyn Hugo first. I'm beyond excited for Hairpin Bridge!! I can't wait for my copy to be delivered.

381. If you had to pick one book that is the essence of summer what would it be? Why?

message 1347: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I didn't like the book, but Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren is the essence of summer. It's very fluffy, romantic, funny, and hard-hitting at times.

message 1348: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune because it was fun, and had an island and an ocean.

382. Have you ever bought a second copy of a book just because it had a different cover?

message 1350: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Yes. I try to just go for the cover I want first, though.
