The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson This story was a great favourite with all my children and is beautifully written and very wise.

Rather late in the day but I thought I'd add the link. The Crow Road so it goes onto the side list. The Beeb did a rather good adaptation of this. I found that easier to get along with than the book.
