Read-a-Thon #2 - Team Ladybug

I'm not the spreadsheet wizard Emily is, but I've put our names into the one she created.
Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Right now I'm the only one who can edit. Does the group want me to input info or have everyone do so?

For Bucket 1, I'm probably only going to be able to help with the page count.
I should be more help with Bucket 2
I plan on reading An Antarctic Mystery/Jules Verne. I'm pretty sure it is set in Antarctica and it is published in 1897 so it should work for one of the tasks and I will start reading it tomorrow and wait to finish it.
I also have started a book published in August and if I need to I can wait to finish it for Bucket 6.

We can start books in any order, but need to finish in the order of the buckets. So, if you're reading a book for bucket 2, we can't slot it in unless bucket 1 is complete. (Though the mods definitely mentioned starting a book and then waiting to finish until you're ready for that bucket).
I have an S book that I'll be starting soon too, but I have to finish my current book first since I'm reading in order, so the earliest I'd finish would probably be late on Sat. (US west coast).
Share if you have a book you're planning on reading that will fit a certain prompt. I have a few to choose from to fit different prompts.
Prompts that seem to me they could be difficult:
related to nature
character's name begins with J,U,N, or E
specific colored covers

Before We Were Yours (1-A book by a woman, 2-set on North America, 2-published this decade, 4-an ATY RC book, 4-new to me author, 6-published in June)
A Spool of Blue Thread (1-A book by a woman, 1-starts with an S ?, 2-set on North America, 2-published this decade, 3-audiobook, 4-an ATY RC book, 4-new to me author)
Bowlaway (1-A book by a woman, 2-set on North America, 2-published this decade, 3-published in 2019, 4-an ATY RC book, 4-new to me author)
I can always hold off on finishing the last chapter of the books depending on which bucket they are needed for.

Scythe (starts with S) on my June TBR list.
No One Is Here Except All of Us (different continent)
Underland: A Deep Time Journey counts for Bucket 3 (Kindle) and for Bucket 5 (related to nature, published 2019).
Rough Magic: Riding the World's Loneliest Horse Race )Published 2019, new to me author, also ATY challenge
The Unpassing (Published 2019, ATY challenge, new to me author)
A Place for Us New to me author, Published June 2018
The Dog Stars ATY challenge
Into the Beautiful North Main character name begins with N (JUNE)
I have a number of books set aside to read in June and I'd like to prioritize those. Besides Pachinko, I haven't started another book and I can move Pachinko to the next slot for the next category if we have enough spots for the first bucket.

Laura - the team spreadsheet link in message 1 goes to team butterfly. Can you change the link to the one I gave in message 3? (Or should I somehow adapt the link you gave?)
Your graphic has now been posted above.
Wide flasks = page count
Thin flasks = book count
As you fill the initial flasks, the water will move down the line, in order to fill the large beaker below. You will fill small test tubes by earning questions (4 per tube).
Win the game by filling the large beaker and guessing the author name. This will light your team's lightbulb.
The team to light their bulb first will earn a special badge :)

1Q84 (finishing, will only count for pages))
The Screwtape Letters (1-starts with "S", 2-Europe or published in 1940's, 4-ATY)
I Owe You One (1-by a woman, 2-Europe, 3-2019 or audio, 4-ATY)
Unmarriageable (1-by a woman, 2-Asia, 3-2019, 4-ATY, new author)
I also have options for published during the summer and LGBTQ+ or could find something to fit another prompt. I tend to read quite excessively for read-a-thons!
Sorry about that, Traci. I noticed the title but thought you had just not modified it yet. Apparently I have too many tabs open :P
Fixed.
Fixed.

Here are my books that I plan to start or have at least 100 pages left to read.
An Antarctic Mystery (2- Antarctica, 2-1890's, 3-ebook, 4-ATY, 5- Nature? ice glaciers on the cover)
Early Riser (2- 2010s, 3-hardback, 4-ATY, 6-originally published in August)
The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress (2-1960's, 3-audiobook, 4-ATY & new to me author)
I also might work on The Clockmaker's Daughter and I'm know to randomly start books.

The only book I am set on at this point is Victoria, which can work for 1- written by a woman; 2- publsuhed in 2010s, different continent (Europe); 4- new author or count for ATY challenge;
I'm open after that and can see what needs filling.

Fixed."
Not a problem, thank you!

I'm super intrigued by how this challenge will work out. Yay team, excited to start tomorrow!

I’m currently reading two books that start with S, but I’ll focus on Schindler’s List and try and finish that one ASAP.

The one I am set to start out with is The Tiger at Midnight by Swati Teerdhala. Female author, which ticks a mark on the first bucket list~ I'll be starting this in a few, in any case.
Other books on my list:
The Night Tiger (2019, ATY challenge book)
Foundryside (2019, new to me author, ATY challenge book)
Miracle Creek (2019, new to me author, nature-related cover)
Monstress Vol. 2 + 3 (2017 & 2018, respectively)
To Your Eternity, tome 1 (Yoshitoki Oima, 2017)
The Bear and the Nightingale (2017, ebook, new to me author)
Air Awakens (2015, ebook, new to me author)
The Gilded Wolves (2019, a main character's name starts with an E. already started but have way more than 100 pages left to read.)
I will sweep over the buckets & books once more and can better organize which titles of mine can go towards which prompts.

Traci, I think it would be easier for you if people can add their own info, but as you wish.
Maybe we could also add a column to the spreadsheet next to the completed one to enter the options? That we will be able to see clearly which tasks need books.
I'm quite flexible with my reading, so I'll see what we need before choosing my books!

I'm currently reading American Street It could potentially count for: 1-book by a woman; 2-set in North America, published in the 2017; 3-kindle format; 4-author that is new to me.
I also plan on reading Little & Lion. I don't think I'll finish it in time for the early categories, so I think it could count for one of the later categories: 3-physical book; 4-counts for AtY challenge (mostly black cover), author that is new to me; 7-LGBT character.
I should be able to fit in one more book during the challenge so I'll see where we are and pick accordingly.
I was thinking that it would be more organized if only one person updated the spreadsheet, but I know that's more work for the team leader. I'm up for whatever is easiest for everyone.

Bowlaway - just started so will take a couple of days: published 2019, female author, N. American setting, new to me author.
Salt, Sugar, Fat - 20% done, starts with an S, published in the 2010's, new to me author, N. American setting
The Westing Game - short book (but over 100 pgs) so could finish it TODAY, female author, published 1970's, N. American setting, author new to me.
The Flight of Gemma Hardy - 10% done, could be finished by Sunday, female author, published 2010's, author new to me, set in Europe
Coldest Winter Ever - female author, new to me, published in the 2000's, ATY week 28 (something cold).
I'm very flexible in what I need to read so will focus on whatever you need me to.

Still Me
Annihilation
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Anne of Green Gables
Golden Son
I wasn't thinking that the challenge started today so I can start on Still Me when I get home from work and I probably could finish Saturday.

I'm currently reading The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi which could work for a book by a woman. It could also work for bucket 2 - this is set in Europe or bucket 3 - a book published in 2019.
Other than that I am flexible with what I will read, depending on what we need. I will also be listening to an audiobook which could help with the bucket 3 - 2 books in different formats.

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman 356 pages (1-A book by a woman, 2- Australia, 2-published this decade, 3 - audiobook, 4-new to me author, 6/7-published in July)
Moovar: A Collection of Short Stories by Pa Raghavan 174 pages (2 - Asia, 2 - published this decade, 3 - kindle book, 6/7 - published in June)

Spreadsheet:
-Everyone can now edit. I can keep track of the top table, but you can input pages and games completed.
-New tab: "planning". I believe I've entered everyone's books that are currently listed here. I may have not entered into bucket 1 if it was mentioned you wouldn't read it for awhile. I wasn't sure how best to organize this, so I just put all options everywhere and listed continent/decade for those (we have a lot of options here, so I didn't think it was as necessary to put actual book).
-If you would like me to input your information, please include in your message something along the lines of "Traci, please update my games/pages with...."
Planning:
We have a lot of options for the first 4 or so buckets, which is good. It'd be good to get more options for inspired by summer holiday and the covers, but depending on reading speed, you may need to delay starting.
Bucket 1: 3 people mentioned maybe being able to finish a book by a woman today (text in planning sheet in red). Is anyone thinking they'll finish an S title today?
Sarah - don't worry, we're all new to this specific challenge, which requires more strategizing than the last couple. From what's been posted already, it would be good to take a look at later buckets and see if you can find something that fits. However, we all have different reading speeds, so for prompts that a lot of people can fill, we'll grab the first book that is complete.
Page count (Jillian's question): I personally count pages each day. If people want to wait until they finish a book, that's fine too, but it won't count towards our total pages until it's entered int he spreadsheet.
Please remember: This is all in fun! Even if your books don't end up filling the buckets, games and total pages help the team too!
And now the extra hour I hoped to read before work is gone! Oh well, hopefully this will help us all have more fun and less stress.

I'm currently reading:
The Binding (1 - by a woman, 2 - set in Europe, published in 2010s, 3 - audiobook, published in 2019, 4 - new-to-you author, 5 - main character's name begins with E)
Home Fire (1 - by a woman, 2 - set in Europe, published in 2010s, 3 - ebook, 4 - new-to-you author, 6 - published during summer)
Midnight's Children (2 - set in Asia, published in 1980s, 3 - paperback, 4 - new-to-you author, 8 - blue cover).
I will hopefully finish Home Fire and The Binding by the end of Saturday. I've still got over 500 pages of Midnight's Children to read, so it will take longer.

The kickoff is the first game, so if you've completed that, you can update your row in the spreadsheet.
To be eligible for the prompts, you must read at least 100 pages of the books you complete (or 3 less than 100). However, if you have 50 pages left of a book, those 50 pages can still count towards our page total.

I´m currently in the middle of:
Waking Gods- only counts for page count
And I´m planing to read:
The Wicked King- 3, published in 2019; 1, a book by a woman; 5, main characters name begins with J; 8, blue cover.
Girls of Paper and Fire - 4, new to me author; 7, book with LGBTQ+ character; 8, purple cover.

That is good to hear since I have a two books with less than 100 pages. I added my page count for this morning on my hardback book. I'm going to wait to add my audiobook until I finish it since it is already a bit tricky figuring out the page count.

Does that cover look more orange or red to you?

I added my books, please shout out if you need me to find something specific to read.
Edit: I also added a "no. options" column to the planning tab to see at a glance how many books are slotted for each category. That helps seeing where we still need options 😉

I have Three Bags Full on my plan to read later this year, I'm curious what you think of it.

I'll add a section for question brainstorming to the bottom of the planning tab in case it helps to have everything in one place.

Does the red print mean anything?"
The planning tab wasn't there originally, so makes sense if you missed it.
The red print is just me being obsessive! Since reading speeds are so different, I was marking the people who mentioned they'd likely get their options for the first bucket done today.

I should be finishing up Dry tonight. I don't think it'll work for bucket one apart from page count.

Does that cover look more orange or red to you?

I would say orange, but you could argue either way. And sheep could definitely be related to nature 😊.

I just signed up today and was assigned to join Team Ladybug!
Looking forward to reading with all of you.
I am currently about halfway through (still have more than the required 100 pages to go) "The Game You Played which could count for a book by a woman or an author that is new to me .
I also just started The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which could also count for a book by a woman, an author that is new to me, an audiobook, and a book where the main characters name starts with J
I likely will read one other book during this time frame but I will wait to see what we need :)
