When You're Not Reading a Cozy
How could I not love The Kalahari Typing School for Men, the 4th book in the series of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith? These are always enjoyable and a gentle reminder that life in rural Botswana is a far cry from that of most readers.

Psychedelic dreaming for toddlers, anyone? Alice In Wonderland by words&pictures has some inventive artwork by Cynthia Alonso, including holes in the pages for peeking and for little fingers.

I've finished 3 more books:1. A fun, over-the-top and snarky paranormal romance: A Wolf After My Own Heart
by MaryJanice Davidson. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...2. A suspenseful and fast-paced romantic suspense novel: Jackson
by LaQuette. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...3. A mixed genre novel: science fiction, time travel, & techno-thriller" The Future Is Yours
by Dan Frey. My 3 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished One Writer's Beginnings last night and truly enjoyed it. I can see why it sat atop the bestseller list so long. Am now about a quarter into Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, which I have not read before, though it’s always on lists of recommended reads, including the Great American Read list.
I finished an an action-thriller. Run for Cover: A Novel
by Michael Ledwidge.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm reading a fun non-fiction about a pair of British guys on a road trip from New York to California. Lots of funny parts, a few cringe worthy.
Not Tonight, Josephine
I finished a coming of age paranormal fantasy debut novel: Firefanged
by Rory Surtain.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished a paranormal fantasy/romance written by a husband and wife team. Unfortunately, I was not inspired by this one.Faerie Moon
by Matt Mark.My 2 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Shuggie Bain, the autobiographical novel by Scottish-born author Douglas Stuart, tells of a loving, queer, little boy who adores his beautiful, alcoholic mum. It is heart-breakingly wonderful! Well-deserved winner of the 2020 Booker Prize.

I've not read any of Jeffery Deaver's work before, so his short story Turning Point was my introduction. Loved it! Finding RDK, the Russian Doll Killer, was cleverly done.

I am reading The Corset
by Laura Purcell. I think the setting is late 1800's.Interesting perceptive switches between a woman who like to help women in prison, and a murderess. Well written . Enjoying it.
Finished reading The Enchanted Castle by E. Nesbit last night. Though more than 100 years old (1907), the book did not feel too dated, and I think most children today would enjoy the adventures of the four children featured in it.
Time for a mystery now I think. 🙂

This is designed for little kids, but adults will enjoy seeing how Charles Darwin made the scientific discoveries that changed our understanding of the world. Need I add that every school should have this one?

So much to choose from! Buzz Books 2021: Spring/Summer is full of sample chapters of upcoming books, some by established authors and some by those who are also up-and-coming.

I finished a suspenseful and pulse-activating thriller: Skystorm
by Steven Konkoly.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading The Book of Lost Names
by Kristin Harmel. I am about halfway through and really enjoying it. Very well written. You get the feeling of disbelief that many of he Jews had in Paris that Nazi's could not round them all up.

I finished a police procedural / romantic suspense novel: The Silence by Kendra Elliot. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
One non-cozy as well. Not sure why it isn't coming up in search.Bone Canyon by Lee Goldberg https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
There's a Goodreads issue with the search, with the add book/author as well. Hopefully they'll fix it soon!
It's weird. It is in the database. I was able to find it another way. But it is annoying that the search wasn't working.
The search function has had issues for weeks, if not longer, but it does seem to be getting worse. I couldn’t link to any Barbara Ross books in that discussion last night. When I set up that author discussion last month, I could not add her name to the field “this discussion is about book/author” as I usually do—but it let me do it for the March author when I started working on that one. Some hours it works fine, then all of a sudden it’s not working at all. It does get frustrating! 😐
Currently working my way through Songs of Innocence and of Experience by William Blake, a February classic group read.

Brenda — I noticed that, too, but people don’t always have the ISBN close to hand. And, as mentioned, the author database is also screwed up. Hopefully they will get these issues fixed soon. 😐

I have recently (Thurs & today) reread a series of books by Nick Bantock from the early 1990s: Griffin and Sabine, Sabine's Notebook and The Golden Mean. I read these when they first came out, and maybe once since, or at least flipped through them. The artwork in them is sometimes bizarre, but then as now, I enjoyed reading the series of letters and postcards. Definitely enjoyed the first book best.
Book Club (Zoom) meeting coming up on Tuesday - gotta read Nathaniel Philbrick's In the Hurricane's Eye: The Genius of George Washington and the Victory at Yorktown
& stop obsessing about politics for a few days.
I finished a police procedural / British crime novel: The Gorge
by Matt Brolly.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
