Ah, ok, cool! I thought the books had to be read before Wednesday, and I thought Pat's review came in on Thursday, not Wednesday. I know she posted it on Thursday, but I just wasn't seeing that it was finished on Wednesday. I blame it on it being late at night and me not fully awake!

Review:
I'm actually very conflicted about this book. Some parts of the book were very interesting, but others fell very flat. I disliked how dishonest the heroine was, as she created much of the relationship turmoil she dreaded because of it. Both of the main characters are like this though, and it makes for unnecessary conflict that is rather easily resolved, something that I didn't find authentic or believable. There were quite a few things that forced me to stretch the limits of what I was willing to believe for a book to make this one work, and it colors my perception of it. It seemed like every thing was crammed into the latter third of the book, and that is where we get much of the world building and explanations about the motivations of the characters. One thing I did quite enjoy about the book was the glass bead making scenes, and I wished there were more of them in the book! While this was a quick read for me, I'm not so sure I want to continue the series.

Saugatuck Summer (Saugatuck, #1) by Amelia C. Gormley
Book 1 in Series
Rating 2 stars

I was really looking forward to reading this book because it got such high ratings but I am in the minority that didn't like it. I had to push myself to finish the story, especially because I did not connect with the character or the plot. I'm not sure how much it has to do with being written in 1st person POV or how much I felt that this character was a self-centered train wreck, committing mistakes, especially the big one that we could see a mile away. THis was the first book I read by this author and I am not sure if I would try any of her other books.

Task: Series Book #1

After the Kiss|Suzanne Enoch
After the Kiss (Notorious Gentlemen, #1) by Suzanne Enoch

Read from 09/05/14 - 09/06/14
Rating: ★★

Brief Review
This was somewhat disappointing. By day Sullivan Waring (better known as Sully) is a horse breeder/trader, by night a thief. He's made a vow of revenge against the father who shuns him to regain what he feels rightfully belongs to him. Lady Isobel Chalsey catches him in the act of stealing from her own home. An interesting plot, some twists and turns to make it interesting, but it just falls short. I had several problems with it, but the main two were: (1) the heroine borders on being a brat, and (2) the interaction between hero and heroine seemed forced and did not flow smoothly.

Overall, 2 stars. Maybe I'll get to book two at some point.

Review: Brooke was hired to be a rehab specialist to Remington "Riptide" Tate, a fighter in the underground fighting circuit. Remy is a wound up, crazy fighter that Brooke comes to love. There is fighting, sex and mention of great songs in this book.

I had a hard time reading this one, there did not seem to be much character development at the beginning. The last 2 chapters is the reason I gave it a 2 star. I am not sure I will continue with the series.

Pat Week 2
Space 15
Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , #1 in a Series.
Finished 09/08/14
Rating: 3.5*

Divergent is a young adult book, focused on a group of teenagers in a post-apocalyptic world. The world is divided into 5 factions, and upon completion of school, each teen is analyzed as to which faction they most would fit into, and then the student chooses a faction to initiate into. Beatrice's tests are inconclusive...in fact she is secretly labeled Divergent (falling into several different faction groups instead of one clear group). Beatrice decides to choose the exciting Dauntless faction, a clear opposite of her peaceful Abnegation faction she was brought up in. Beatrice is caught up with new competitors trying to get into the Dauntless faction. Failure is not an option, and can her new friends be trusted?

This story is great and will keep your attention, but the writing is stilted and actually more what I would expect a middle school student to be able to read. If you can get by the writing style you will enjoy the book. First in a series, and recently made into a movie I am interested in reading the follow up volumes not only for the story factor but to see if the writer evolves her writing style.

Hollow City (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #2) by Ransom Riggs , #2 in a Series. I bought this series last spring and am glad to have a reason to finish it up. The first book was very different, a fantasy time travel piece with kids and monsters - something that many middle school students like! What was different about it was that the book was peppered with real life very strange photographs from the Victorian era. It was one of those books that you wondered if the photos inspired the story or if the author took the time to sort through photos to fit the story. Looking forward to seeing if the same methodology is used in the second book.

TASK: SERIES BOOK #2

In the Dark|Marliss Melton
In the Dark (SEAL Team 12, #2) by Marliss Melton

Read from 09/12/14 - 09/13/14

Brief Review
Hannah Geary finds herself in a world of trouble. Waking up in a prison cell, disoriented, lost and no idea what is going on, she knows she must escape. Lucky for her there's an awesome SEAL just waiting on the other side to rescue her. Lt Luther Lindstrom does not have time for all these feelings he seems to have for Hannah. Having just ended one marriage, he's not really ready for a relationship right now.

This was a great story: a rogue SEAL selling weapons to the enemy, another SEAL's life waiting in the balance as his fate is decided, and a great love story. This is book two of the SEAL Team 12 series. I'm looking forward to book #3.

4 Stars

Read: 9/13/14-9/14/14
Rating: *****

This book was a great #2 in the series. I had to stay up late to finish. :)

This book started where #1 left off but with a different character. I am glad Alessandro got his own book especially with the end of book #1.

Hilary is trying to get on with her life, trying to make it on Broadway. But Alessandro shows up and makes her face their past. They both had a tough life and met while in foster care.

Alessandro needs to face their past just as much, so in this story they continue their friendship this helps them move on through the pain and hurt of their past. I loved this book even more than book #1. I will definitely read book #3.

Review:
This book was a pretty solid read for me. I chuckled several times throughout it, had tears welling up by the end of it, despite the rocky start to the book. Brock is a total jerk in the beginning, and Tess lives up to the stereotypical Kristen Ashley doormat heroine typecasting. But this book shows them growing, both as a couple and as individuals. It also is heavily interconnected with the previous novel in the series as well as the Rock Chick series, something I really hate about these books. I'm still on the fence regarding the author, but this book has redeemed the debacle that was the previous novel in the series.

Brothers in Arms (The Broken Road Cafe #2) by T.A. Webb
Completed 9/15/14
5 stars

T.A Webb has been one of my favorite M/M Romance writers. There's something about the way he writes that draws me into the story and the characters and leaves me wanting another story.

I loved the first book in this series, but the second one was even more amazing. I could hardly put it down and I had all these emotions going on. I got angry, happy, sad, worried all in one book. There's a wide range of topics in this story, from closet cases to hard bullying in high school. You can imagine that some of that is not pretty, - the topic, I mean- but the story is wonderfully written and believe me when I tell you that you have got to read this.

I loved how Nick and Dan's relationship evolved here. I learned to forgive Gary and Abe but I wish I had read a bit more of what happened with Charlie.. and Freddie.

Can't wait for book 3!!!

Pat Week #3 - Space 26
Book #2 in Series

Hollow City (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #2) by Ransom Riggs

Completed 09/15/14
3.5 Stars

Hollow City is the second book in the Peculiar Children series. These are not fast paced books, rather ones that you linger in, to absorb the authors descriptions of whole new lands, inhabited by those creatures that only live in our pleasant dreams or nightmares. In this book we find our hero, Jacob, on the run with Ms. Peregrine's peculiar children, being chased through time loops, and daunting physical barriers by the horrid hollowghast's, and those who would destroy their world. The book is filled with much description so that we may fully realize the world the author has created, and peppered with black and white photographs from the Victorian era that help our minds see various landscapes and characters in the book.
I had a little more difficulty reading this book as I prefer books that move quicker. The story is good, making you want to know what happens in the third book, but I just had a hard time staying with it. This is a teen book, and the reading complexity was more on an adult level. I would recommend this book for those who like their fiction a little more on the literary side, not a quick read but satisfying in the descriptions portrayed.

I LOVE LOVE this book!

Caroline recently moved into a new apartment and her neighbors "friends" obviously have a good time, what with all the banging on the bedroom wall and the "Oh God's" The sad part of the book was Catherine had lost her O. :(

This story was filled with humor, sexual tension, foreplay and matchmaking.

A very delightful weekend read.
