Amy (Other Amy) | 198 comments Maybe someone here will be able to help me with a burning question. I am looking for a Listopia with books that have the same opening and closing line, but I cannot for the life of me find one. I cannot believe anywhere in my being we don't have such a list on Goodreads already.

I checked the lists with The Haunting of Hill House and The House of the Spirits, but they of course have several pages and GR is doing that great thing where it reshuffles the order of the lists when you go to the next page, so I can't be absolutely sure it isn't there even though I'm not finding it.

Does anyone else have a more reliable way to find a specific list? If I can't find this list, I'll start it, but I just cannot believe we don't already have one.

Amy (Other Amy) | 198 comments I have searched by the best means I can contrive (searching the Goodreads List database specifically with Google) and I have turned up nothing, so I went ahead and created a list for books with the same or substantially the same first and last lines. If you know of any, please do add them. Thank you so much!

Begins As It Ends

(I will probably make a suggest books for me topic as well.)

Your Top 5 Reads in 2022

The 2021 list had 272 voters, but only 166 voted for their favorites last year.

RIP, BookLovingLady. We weren't GR friends (my oversight, I should have requested), so I can't post a tribute to you on your page, but I will here - I will think of you when I read "A Letter to the King" by Tonke Dragt this year. I was actually thinking about messaging you re: Dutch juvenile fiction... I am so sorry that you are gone, and I want to thank you for all the help you gave. <3

Thank you, Rainbowheart, for carrying on her list legacy!!!

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments As of this morning, hovering over a book in a Listopia list no longer brings up the little box with the summary.

Is anyone else having this problem? I hope it's just a glitch and not a sign of something worse.

Capn | 3506 comments Oh schreck... for me too. :S

That said, every time I reply in line, my response is italicized in spite of the correct html nesting happening above my line of reply....

Let's see if happens here. (All of Goodreads crashed out on me for about 10 seconds just now as well!). :O

EDIT: No, the Ital. thing is fixed now, it seems.

message 161: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments I wonder if GR in general is glitching. The "My group discussions" circle at the top right of my page has disappeared, but if I click on it, it still brings me to that area.

message 162: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments The hovering problem appears to be fixed!

Although the "My group discussions" circle still seems to be gone.

message 163: by Capn (new)

Capn | 3506 comments I've now got "A NEW MESSAGE" in my inbox that doesn't exist... :S It's really annoying, because it goes away (though mostly it persists) and then reappears, and everytime i check....! :S

message 164: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments That's weird! I've had that happen before, too.

The "My group discussions" thing appears to be fixed now, so I guess whatever was going on yesterday was just the usual GR glitches.

Crystal K (crystal_k) | 44 comments Hi
So I've created this list, it's about best paranormal/supernatural/fantasy adult books... focused more on plot. I would really like to check out your favourites, if you'd add it here:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Thanks!!

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments New age-themed lists!

Books with Seven-Year-Old Protagonists

Books with Eight-Year-Old Protagonists

Books with Nine-Year-Old Protagonists

Please vote if you can! There are tons, and I ran out of room, lol. I was surprised no one had ever made lists like these before. There were lists for certain ages, but not lists *about* certain ages.

message 167: by SBC (new)

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments It's a good idea! Will try to think of some books to add :)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments More age-themed lists!

Books with Ten-Year-Old Protagonists

Books with Eleven-Year-Old Protagonists

Books with Twelve-Year-Old Protagonists

Books with Thirteen-Year-Old Protagonists

I decided to quit after 13, otherwise these lists could probably go on forever, lol. Please feel free to vote. There's just no way I could add everything, but I tried to hit all the major books.

Awesome, Rainbowheart! At some point soon, I'll go through my stacks and add-in everything. :)

It's a nice idea for new lists! :)

I've voted on each, so load me up with your overflow, until I can add some new votes of my own. ;)

message 173: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments Oh, awesome, thanks so much!! I do have some overflow that I'll definitely get to later. :)

message 174: by Capn (last edited Dec 15, 2023 01:11PM) (new)

Capn | 3506 comments Just noticed that for the past 48 hours or more, I haven't been able to call up lists by searching (keyword) or by tags via Listopia. Have had to resort to Google searches to find the lists.

edit: for clarification, SOME lists are brought up, sometimes. But if you search for a term which you know is tethered to a list (for example, one you created yourself, or one you know very well!), it won't necessarily call it up. "Canada" and "Christmas" were two that should have dragged up a dozen lists of my own alone, and none of them were there. And it's not just my lists, but since I know my own tags well, it feels skewed that way. It's strange. They are there, and they appear to be functional, but you can't find them via GR!

message 175: by Capn (new)

Capn | 3506 comments Yeah, it's not just me. Another user just asked about it.

Anyone know?! Lists are still there, can still vote on them (provided you can find them)...

message 176: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments It's not just Listopia search. It's the group search engines, too. If I try to search for a post here, same result.

Jaye | 424 comments Rainbowheart wrote: "It's not just Listopia search. It's the group search engines, too. If I try to search for a post here, same result."

I noticed a while ago trying to search 2023 on lists. A few other years came up but not one 2023.
I went to another year on a list and was able to access 2023 from there. It was an awkward work around.
It was still like that yesterday.

Jaye | 424 comments Rainbowheart wrote: "It's not just Listopia search. It's the group search engines, too. If I try to search for a post here, same result."
I guess we'll have to use the work around of going to profile and to comments if we want to continue discussions.

message 179: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments You can also find lists by tag!

https://www.goodreads.com/list/tag/2023

Good workaround in the meantime. It seems like the GR search is always down for one reason or another.

message 180: by Capn (new)

Capn | 3506 comments Tag functionality was restored for me earlier as well. Otherwise, I go to google (i.e. "goodreads" "listopia addicts"), that sort of thing.

So frustrating! I can't believe I miss the "Search Unavailable" message! :( At least you knew that they knew it was down!

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5379 comments I asked about this on GR Help, but no answer yet, if ever.
Is there a list for heroines named "Willow"?

message 182: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments I don't think so! Nothing under the tag "Willow," and nothing came up on a Google search.

Jaye | 424 comments Rosa wrote: "I asked about this on GR Help, but no answer yet, if ever.

Willow.
In the Buffy the vampire slayer books? Buffys friend is sometimes a heroine.

Capn | 3506 comments If anyone has some free time over the holidays, I've got lists with massive overflow votes (in comment section) to be added in. :(

Young Ornithologists: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Fiction set in a Dump: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Teen Detective Mysteries (whole series are missing, most of which are female-led!): https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

...and then also the Avalon Camelots (still). And I'm sure there are more lists that I have piles of votes to add in, but we'll start there. :)

Thanks very much for any help, and it can be reciprocated on lists I've not maxed out on yet. Just let me know. :)

37 pages worth of 'em, lol.

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments Speaking of challenges, there are quite a lot of name lists! I've created some myself.

But I'm wondering which popular-ish names don't have their own lists yet.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing for these....

"Joan"
"Judy"
"June"
"Rowan"
"Harper"
"Francie"
"Frannie"

I've been adding my Junes to "Characters with Month Names": https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Frannie/Franny and Judy would be enormous!!!

message 193: by Darcey (new)

Darcey Ash I’ve made a few young adult/middle grade specific ones: “YA and MG With Characters Named Zach/Zack”, “Young Adult and Middle Grade With Characters Named Josh”, “Young Adult and Middle Grade With Characters Named Emma”, Young Adult & Middle Grade With Characters Named Jessica (or a Nickname of It)“.

message 194: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28558 comments Thanks, guys!

I haven't voted on the month names list yet. There are other similar lists for virtue names, color names, bird names, etc. So many possibilities out there.

message 195: by Darcey (last edited Feb 10, 2024 08:24AM) (new)

Darcey Ash Hey! I was wondering if there were many trope lists. Like a fake dating list, or friends-to-lovers, or enemies-to-lovers, or friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, etc. or maybe any of those trope but YA specific? I made one for longtime unrequited crushes already. Also, how do you link a list in a comment?

And one for this year too, although it's probably too early for most people to vote on it.

I did find these!

YA Enemies to Lovers

Fake Dating In YA/NA

YA Romance Between Friends

By the way, to link a list, click on "some html is ok" (to the right above the reply box) and follow the instructions there.
