Struck
Completed: 10/10
Rating: ★★★
Review: Decent except I thought the brothers completely overreacted. They annoyed me in this book. Their brother is a grown man. Let him live his life.

A continuation of the big story arc from the first one. But this one focused more on Meeka and Asher. Best friends for years, fighting their attraction for awhile. Until a horrible situation pushes them to accept and move on. Some answers, more questions. At least the story is moving along.

Better late than never! I hope it gets better for ya. I know how frustrating unreliable connection can be :/

Yeah, I've been trying to line them up if I can, bonus if I can make one the meet & greet challenge picks work or one of my library books work. 😊

I keep checking my Meet N Greet list too. So far, no luck. Haven't checked for this week yet though.

Qualification: (Sam Capra #3)
Finished: Oct 14
Rating: ★★★
Review: Sam Capra has lived a thrilling life as a CIA agent but now all he wants is to settle down, run his San Francisco bar and raise his ten month old son. He soon realizes that you don't just walk away from the CIA and the shadowy figures that are out there.
Things are going well until a stranger, Diana, comes into his bar and says Help Me to Sam. Within minutes 2 thugs enter his bar and try to kidnap Diana. Sam steps in to prevent this and ends up in a knife fight that ends with one of the kidnappers lying dead on his tavern floor. All this puts Sam on the radar of an underground group of influential men and women that don't necessarily play nice. This conspiracy seems to lead to the White House.

How it fits: #3 in series
Review
This was an ok crime novel. I loved the setting, but it was a bit slow going at times and I am still not sure if I like the main character - police officer Maria Kallio - or if I just find her annoying.

When I read the first book, I absolutely loved it. The second book, it was good, but not as good as the first. This one...there is so much going on. Too much is going on. How can you can wrap up so many side stories in one book? How can you have key characters from book 1 or 2 pop up in 3 with no explanation about how those characters got to where they are. Multiple POVs kept bouncing up...illogically. You just get into one story then suddenly it changes. With no linkage between them.

Week #5 - Spot #38

Rust & Stardust
Completed: 10/16
Rating: ★★★
Review: This was set in the 1940s but it was hard to tell. The author didn't do a very good job getting the 40s feel/vibe. It read very much like modern day. I got so frustrated so many times. At Sally for being so gullible and naive, at her mom for being so trusting, at all the close calls throughout the story... I also wasn't a fan of the ending. Knowing how the real life story ended I was afraid the author would take it there too. And she did.

I always thought the free pass replaced someones book post.

Serpent's Kiss by Thea Harrison

Rating 3 stars
Review: There wasn’t much to this book. The story kept going in and out of memories so many times, I got lost.

Book: A Knight to Remember
Author: Cynthia Luhrs
Read: OCt 19
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: Historical
Review: Lucy isn't sure she wants to say with her current bf, but goes to England with him on a trip anyway to see if when he's in is homeland will she see the real him. Sadly the real him is worse then the rude jerk she's been dating. When Lucy says no to him when he asks her to marry him. He drugs her, marries her and attempts to murder her, all in the name of a curse on his family that he needs to break.
This attempt at murder, sends Lucy back in time....to before the curse happens....will Lucy get home? Will the curse get broken? Will it ever happen?
I really liked this story, the writing at times was a tad repetitive, I will always pick up if you said the exact same thing about the exact same person or whatever in a book.

Qualification: (Stacy Killian #4)
Finished: Oct 20
Rating: ★★★
Review: This was an excellent serial killer saga that takes place in New Orleans post Katrina. The thing I found strange was that this is the 4th in the Stacy Killian series but she is barely in the book. In the previous book she was shot and in this one she is hospitalized recovering from her wounds. Meanwhile her partner is trying to catch a serial killer who thinks he is God's messenger. This zealot hears voices in his head that tell him to kill demons that possess people.

Book: The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency
Author: Alexander McCall Smith
Read: Oct 22
Rating 3 stars
Review: Precious Ramotswe (Mma Ramotswe is how she's addressed in the book) is the first lady detective in Botswana, Africa and she takes on many little cases through out this book. We get to see her life in bits before she became a detective, from her fathers death to her abusive ex husband. I like that it is a mystery book but not one that keeps you in suspense or thrills. Just day to day life in her little part of the world. I will be reading the next book....at some point.

Book: The Sweetest Thing
Author: Jill Shalvis
Read: Oct 11
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review: I liked it, I didn't love it. It was a quick read, I wanted to like it more but it just seemed like there should have been more to it. Especially when it came to Mia.
I was drove nuts with the repetitiveness too, the amount of times I read about someone waking up at the crack dawn, like if I was a drinker and this was a drinking game I'd be long on my ass and not bei able to read..
But despite it all, it was enjoyable. I will continue on at some point.
How it fits: 2nd in a series.
