Task 15.9: Option 1: The Witch of Agnesi by Robert Spiller. The book has MPG Mystery. The name in the title is Agnesi, Italian mathematician Maria Gaetana Agnesi.
From wikipedia, here is a definition: In mathematics, the witch of Agnesi (Italian pronunciation: [a.ˈɲe.zi]) is a cubic plane curve defined from two diametrically opposite points of a circle. It gets its name from Italian mathematician Maria Gaetana Agnesi, and from a mistranslation of an Italian word for a sailing sheet.
In reference to the book, the main character is a high school mathematics teacher (Bonnie Pinkwater), and the sponsor of the math club. The math club and its members are what the book is about, including this problem.
