message 306: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thanks Avid.

So I've finished the readathon and managed 10 hours 28 mins which beat my 10 hour target. Hooray!
I read a total of 387 pages so didn't reach 500 although I think this is due to not having short quick books or graphic novels on my TBR. Something to reconsider next time.

I need to check against Bingo and do a proper round up. In the meantime I hope everyone did well and enjoyed it too.

Sounds like a successful readathon, Kate! Nice!
I need to select my books more carefully too. One of my books had such tiny lettering, I managed only about 25 pages an hour…

Hope to see you in April!

message 308: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thanks Susy, yes I'll be back in April.
Maybe I'll see you around for the other readathons. I'm half way through the Spoopathon haunted house. Got 25% of my trick or treat read so far and will then just need to read one after dark. Hoping I have time before 31st!
Are you joining Believathon in November?

Oh cool! I see some names in other readathons but never know if they're the same person, not unless they have a very unusual name lol

Not Believathon. Ill be doing Clear Ur Shit and The Game of Tomes and Readathin

Kate | 646 comments I thought Game of Tomes looked good. May have a rethink on my November TBR.
I normally go by Kate and have a black dog photo on Twitter & Youtube (no content just a reader!). My Twitter name is @CalligraphyKate
Hopefully see you around.

Kate | 646 comments I'm back for the April Deweys!
Currently considering the warm up challenges and a potential TBR that will all need to fit with the Magical Readathon - Orilium which is running through April too.

message 313: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Same here Kate! TBR will have to fit both Magical readathon and Realmathon!

To Finish:

A Rare Benedictine (Chronicles of Brother Cadfael, #0.5) by Ellis Peters (1 short story left)

Kate | 646 comments Prep is underway this morning. The slow cooker is on and TBR photos taken. Still need to prep some snacks.

I'll be heading over to my parents for the first few hours as Mum is keen to join me this year. I may even manage to drag Dad into it for a page or two! lol

message 323: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Nice! Enjoy!

message 324: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm over with Mum and Dad and they both have TBRs:

Dad will be reading Nelson's Trafalgar The Battle That Changed the World by Roy A. Adkins

Mum will be picking from Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worsley Odd Boy Out by Gyles Brandreth The Royal Lacemaker by Linda Finlay Maggie Smith A Biography by Michael Coveney
and has taken up the challenge of reading The Bible, its early days she's on Genesis!

We are all starting with the hour sprint.
Good luck everybody!

message 325: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Time for a check in.
I'm making good progress with The Pillars of the Earth and only have about 20 pages to go.
I have started and finished Galatea by Madeline Miller.
I've done 2 full 1 hour sprints and only had 1 hour where I didn't read at all.

message 329: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thank you Erin, Lena and Susy. I'm enjoying myself!

I have just finished my second book: The Pillars of the Earth. I only had 150ish pages to go but its taken me all month so I have a real sense of accomplishment.

On to a short story now with A Rare Benedictine.

message 330: by Kate (new)

Susan, Cadfael is always a joy to read and the short stories have been perfect for a readathon.

message 334: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Its 7am here in the UK and I'm up again. I have no idea who some manage to read right through!

I've just finished by 3rd book: A Rare Benedictine: The Advent of Brother Cadfael

Now I'm going to pick up my most anticipated read: Olive, Mabel and Me: Life and Adventures with Two Very Good Dogs

message 336: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I am super happy with how my readathon went this time. Here are the stats:

Pages Read: 433 (a bit short on my target of 500)
Time Read: 10 hours 49 minutes which is a PB beating my previous record by 14 minutes!
Books finished: 3
Books started: 1
Coffees: 5 (also a PB!)

I normally keep a list of time read per hour and then total it at the end but I think next time I'd like to keep a running total of time read so I know how close I am to my target.

Books finished: The Pillars of the Earth (Kingsbridge, #1) by Ken Follett Galatea by Madeline Miller A Rare Benedictine (Chronicles of Brother Cadfael, #0.5) by Ellis Peters

Books Started: Olive, Mabel and Me Life and Adventures with Two Very Good Dogs by Andrew Cotter

Did you read your 500 page Readathon goal ?

message 338: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Sadly not Vanessa. I managed 433 pages and my target was 500. I think this is because I didn't have a graphic novel this time. Something to include next time though.

You were only 67 pages from your goal . I wouldn't cry about that !
Throw in an audiobook next time and some magazines . That should throw you over the hump . 433 pages deserves an applause 👏👏

Glad to hear that you enjoyed readathon anyway

There's an August 2022 READATHON ?

Usually there is a reverse readathon (meaning it starts at 8pm instead of 8am) in August. Hope the new mods will keep that up.

Cynda, that series was fantastic. Derek Jacobi made the perfect Cadfael. A Rare Benedictine is a prequel of 3 short stories the first of which gives some background to how he became a monk. So it wasn't part of the TV series.

Kate | 646 comments I'm back for the reverse readathon!
Its about 10 days away so now's the time I have to start a couple of books so I can finish them during the readathon and feel I've made some progress!
I'm almost half way through On the Road so that will be 1. I also need to gather a couple of shorter books and fish out a graphic novel.
I'm planning to head over to my parents for lunch as we all read together in their garden last time with snacks & dips which worked really well.

message 350: by Batool✨ (new)

Batool✨ @kate" it really is a nice though i am also picking up some shorter books and summer read,

well i am planning to read heartstopper series it has shorter books and you know graphic they are.
