Kate | 646 comments I'm back and already looking at TBR potentials. The last couple of Read-a-thons I've read 413 pages and 464 pages so my main goal this time will be to crack 500 pages.

An admirable goal. I think my goal will be more about time devoted to reading as that is where I struggle. I love all the online stuff and I let life distract me so I think I will go explore time spent on previous read-a-thons reading and set my goal! Thanks for the inspiration to have a "goal".

Welcome back! You can do it!

message 60: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Waiting to plan my TBR pile once I've seen the Bingo board.
In the meantime I'm looking forward to the pre-readathon challenge of reading for 24 hours over 7 days. I think I normally manage about 8 hours so I'll be aiming for 12.

message 61: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Been shopping now and planned my food/drink/snacks:

Breakfast: Grapefruit and/or croissants
Lunch: Jacket potato with cheese or coleslaw
Dinner: Pork & veg in the slow cooker then raspberries & chocolate mousse
Drinks: Coffee, hot chocolate, diet coke, lemonade
Snacks: Walnuts, marshmallows, chocolate digestive biscuits

The snacks aren't as healthy as they could be but I think there's enough fruit & veg on the list to balance it out!

Kate | 646 comments Proposed TBR List:

An Almond for a Parrot (currently reading)
Northanger Abbey
The Iliad (from book 14)
The PreHistory of The Far Side: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit
J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings (fotonovel)

One Hundred Muddy Paws For Thought
Five Run Away Together
The Flame of Olympus
The Lexicon of Comicana
The Last Hero

The first 5 meet Bingo criteria but there's a mix of YA, kids, graphic novel, classic, myth etc so I can pick whatever takes my fancy. The priority will be to finish An Almond for a Parrot.

message 84: by Kate (last edited Aug 03, 2019 05:16AM) (new)

Kate | 646 comments My tentative TBR pile looks something like this:

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (currently reading and about 75% through, there's 1011 pages!)
The Iliad by Homer (currently reading at book 15)

A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen One Pair of Hands by Monica Dickens Circe by Madeline Miller Station 16 by Hermann Huppen

Audio The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene

They all meet criteria for various ongoing reading challenges, and the Iliad I've dragged out for every readathon I've done, and at the rate I'm reading it it'll be with me for quite a few more!

Nice variety! Circe is good!

message 86: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thanks! I've been looking forward to reading it. Madeline Miller is a favourite author since I read her first novel.

This readathon starts at 1am for me!!! I'm out first thing Saturday morning too so I'll be looking to join in for the second half more so than the first. Off to sort out snacks next...

I liked Achilles more than Circe. But only just! I gave them both 4 stars.

Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) | 350 comments Good luck with the readathon :) So many great choices there. I've yet to read Gone with the Wind but am saving it for December... for no other reason than it feels like a December book.

message 92: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Its just gone 7.30am here. I woke in the night and got about 20 minutes reading in at 4am! lol
But now I'm up and ready to start. Will just have a couple of hours interruption later as I'm out for some of this morning but then I'll be back and hoping to see it through to the end.

4) Do you have a #reversereadathon plan of attack? I've been asleep or will be out for the first half so I'm planning to get stuck in for the second half.

message 96: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Audiobooks are such a lifeline for me! I've been listening to one since I woke up this morning at 5am. And now it's 9:30am!

message 97: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Finished my first book. It was a graphic novel. Only 56 pages Station 16 by Hermann Huppen Quite a disturbing read if I'm honest!

message 98: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Been cracking on with Gone with the Wind slowly but surely getting through it. I have to say A Street Cat Named Bob is a much easier read and I'm enjoying spells of that in between.

message 99: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Well I'm getting too tired to carry on so I'll call it a day. I'll head to bed and "read under the covers" for the Bingo and update here sometime tomorrow.
Have loved the community feel here on Goodreads - I just have to figure out how best to balance GR and reading in future!
