Kate | 646 comments Made a good start with 29 minutes reading The Noose Hangs High in hour one.

message 154: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Nice going, Kate!

message 155: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Switched to a short story and have now finished my first book: The Crime Wave at Blandings which was just the thing for a readathon, short at 81 pages and humorous.

message 156: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Did the Sprint in hour 8 and started Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog which I'm really enjoying.

message 157: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Just finished another sprint in hour 10. Its nearly 11.30pm here in the UK so I'm going to head for bed and read a bit there.
See you bright and early to continue in the morning.

message 158: by Claire (new)

Claire (proud-mum) | 89 comments I’m from the UK too, I’m started to get tired so think I’m going to head to bed & pick it up again in the morning.

message 159: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Good Morning! I finished my second book last night.
First cup of coffee consumed this morning and I'm ready to crack on.

Kate | 646 comments Final Summing Up:

I finished two books:
The Crime Wave at Blandings
The Noose Hangs High

Total pages read: 404
Total time read: 9 hours 44 minutes (a PB! beating my last record by 18 minutes)

1 BINGO Line:
Post 3 books, Author Initial in Dewey, Happy Ending, featuring a holiday and read for 1 hour 3 times
But I did get 12/25 Bingo squares

I spent less time trying to keep up with the blogless threads and just dipping in instead. I did 4 x 1 hour sprints which really helped and I'd definitely participate in them again. I also kept up with the hourly posts on the main website. Although I've joined Twitter I didn't actually use it so that could be something I do next time.

Its been a really great way to spend lockdown and I really hope there is a Summer reverse readathon and even something perhaps on a smaller scale before then. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Everyone. See you all again next time. :)

Same here! I use to mark them in my calendar but because there weren’t any threads before the start of the readathon, I completely forgot....

message 169: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm here for the Reverse Readathon and about to start looking at a potential TBR list.
I'm going to have a couple of targets: I'd like to read over 500 pages and for 12+ hours.

message 170: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Woohoo welcome back!

message 171: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments That is a great goal! I should do something like that too since my husband will be home for half of it and he makes it hard to do. lol

message 172: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Starting to make plans for snacks and getting a TBR list together although I don't want to commit too early until we see the Bingo board.

I think I'll also take a sneaky peek at some other blogless threads - I'm after a new format to use as a summary post to update progress. Normally I stumble across someone's page towards the end and am envious of how they have catalogued their readathon!

message 175: by Kate (last edited Aug 06, 2020 02:00PM) (new)

Kate | 646 comments So I've got a TBR list together which should get me a couple of BINGO lines and fits in with my NEWTS and other challenges too:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling The Raven in the Foregate by Ellis Peters Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey Ruins by Kevin J. Anderson Up the Faraway Tree (The Faraway Tree, #4) by Enid Blyton Calm by Summersdale

Great stack! I love the Brother Cadfael series.

Kate | 646 comments My menu is likely to look something like this:

Breakfast - Grapefruit, yoghurt
Lunch - Cheese sandwich, crisps or Jacket potato
Dinner - Left over pizza? Or something from the freezer!
Snacks - Red pepper hummus with carrot sticks, cheese bites, marshmallows, smarties, chocolate hobnobs
Drinks - Coffee, lemonade, pineapple juice, elderflower cordial

I think I've made more effort with the snacks and drinks than any main meals!

Kate | 646 comments Good morning! the readathon started at 1am here so I missed the first 5 hours. But I started with a Sprint at 6am so I've made a dent in one book already and ticked off some bingo squares too.
Looking forward to a full day of reading and preparing with a coffee and some toast.

Kate | 646 comments Going to give the Pre-Readathon Mini Challenge a go: 4/15
Realistically I'll probably manage about 5.

1 - Read a "long" book (over 500 pages)
2 - Read a "short" book (under 250 pages)
3 - Pick 5 of your favorite genres and enter them in a randomizer. Read a book in that genre
4 - Read a "spooky" book Vampirates: Tide of Terror
5 - Read a book that is 75% one colour on the cover. 1984 by George Orwell
6 - Read a book that was published in the last 18 months
7 - Read a book that was published more than 100 years ago
8 - Read a book set in the Fall or with a cover that looks like it is Fall Quartet in Autumn by Barbara Pym
9 - Read a book set in the Spring or with a cover that looks like it is Spring (trees blooming, etc)
10 - Read at least 75% of a book when it's dark outside Elizabeth Is Missing
11 - Read at least 75% of a book outside (please social distance... a park or back patio will do fine)
12 - Read a book with an animal (real or made up) on the cover
13 - Read a book with a main character or author whose first name starts with the same letter as your first name.
14 - Take five books you really want to read and put them in a randomizer and read whichever one is chosen.
15 - Read a book that is set in a location you wish you could visit or live in. This location can be real or imaginary.
