Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Really? Where did you hear that? As I understand it was pretty difficult managing the 3 a year that exist now?

Kate you look like you had some delightful books to read, includkng Catch Me if You Can. . . .There is a possibility of a readathon between Christmas and New Years. Keep checking the group banner for dates of next readathon.

Kate | 646 comments Unofficial Year End Readathon

My main aim for the next couple of days is to meet my Goodreads target which was 40 books. I'm on 38.

I'm almost finished with The Farthest Shore by Ursula K. Le Guin and then I'll need a short book to finish the year I do have Cinnamon by Neil Gaiman which is a kids book my nephew got for Christmas. I'm seeing him tomorrow so should be able to read it with him!

After that I'll look at getting a head start on my January reading challenges. These should include:
The House at Bishopsgate
Justice League, Volume 1: Origin

The Farthest Shore (Earthsea Cycle, #3) by Ursula K. Le Guin Cinnamon by Neil Gaiman The House at Bishopsgate by Katie Hickman Justice League, Volume 1 Origin by Geoff Johns

Kate | 646 comments Starting to think about a potential TBR for April. I've already started buying snacks!!

message 462: by Susan (new)

Susan | 986 comments Definitely time to start getting ready! And snacks are good ;)

message 463: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Well here is my TBR for April. I will probably have read a couple of these before the readathon and may add to the list or swap out as we get nearer but its being driven by the Magical Readathon (Orilium) challenge running this April.

To finish:
The Turquoise by Anya Seton

To start:
The Foundling by Stacey Halls
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett
Hamlet, Revenge! by Michael Innes
Disclaimer by Renée Knight
The Silversmith's Wife by Sophia Tobin
The Vanishing Witch by Karen Maitland

The one I'm most looking forward to is The Vanishing Witch. Its 598 pages but I blasted through Company of Liars so I think this will be perfect for the readathon, I fully expect to want to be reading it into the early hours!

Please let me know what you think of my selection and if you are reading any of these authors too.

The Turquoise by Anya Seton The Foundling by Stacey Halls The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald I Shall Wear Midnight (Discworld, #38; Tiffany Aching, #4) by Terry Pratchett Hamlet Revenge by Michael Innes Disclaimer by Renée Knight The Silversmith's Wife by Sophia Tobin The Vanishing Witch by Maitland Karen

message 471: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Oh, snack list is prepared too, nice!
I’m working on starting a few reads which I hope to finish during the readathon: The Bat by Jo Nesbo and Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie.

message 472: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments That's a good plan Susy. I'm near to finishing Hamlet, Revenge! So I'm leaving the last few pages so I have an early book finished on Saturday. I'm now turning my attention to starting The Vanishing Witch. Its nearly 600 pages so I want to get it underway so I can blast through the majority of it during Deweys.

Unfortunately I've got a nasty cold and been off work yesterday and today. But I've booked tomorrow as holiday so hopefully I'll feel better for readathon preparations by then.

message 473: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments 600 pages, That’s quite a big book for a readathon.
I still have sooooo much to do before driving to my rented place tomorrow early afternoon!

message 474: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Slight tweak to my TBR as I've finished one and started some others:

To finish:
Hamlet, Revenge!
The Vanishing Witch
The River of Adventure

To start:
The Foundling by Stacey Halls
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett
The Silversmith's Wife by Sophia Tobin

My goals for this readathon:
Read 500 pages
Read for 10 hours

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Happy readathon!

message 480: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Well I'm off to a good start.
After the first 2 hours I have read for about an hour and a half and finished Hamlet, Revenge!. I'll be giving it 4 stars.
On to my 600 page book now to try and make a dent in it! The Vanishing Witch

message 481: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 823 comments 600 pages sounds intimidating! Great progress so far

message 482: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments It is Lamilla! That's why I chose it for the readathon - more chance of getting through it if I have a concentrated time on it!

message 483: by Kate (last edited Apr 13, 2024 09:06AM) (new)

Kate | 646 comments So I've spent the first 4 hours more or less reading solidly so this hour I'm devoting to social media. I'm Co-Mod for hour 5 so it works out nicely timewise.
Also time to get a frozen snack and tick off a bingo square! Ice-cream is calling!

message 484: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 823 comments Congrats on your progress, Kate, 4 hours is an impressive achievement! You deserve a break

I host hour 7, will do something similar, I'm sure

message 485: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I've managed to read for a reasonable amount of time in each hour so far. I imagine I'll start slowing down soon though. Its 9pm here so I'm reckoning on another 2 hours and then I'll probably need some sleep.

message 486: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Its just gone 11pm here so I'm moving to read in bed for a while. Will catch up here in the morning. I can't do a full 24 hours, I need my sleep!
Happy Reading everyone who's still going!

message 487: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Same Kate! Will read for about another hour and then get some sleep as well. See you tomorrow!

message 488: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm back!

message 491: by Susan (new)

Susan | 986 comments Sounds like a great Readathon, Kate! I really enjoyed “Hamlet, Revenge”, too. See you next time!

message 494: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments My Readathon stats:
Total Pages Read: 364 (Target was 500 but realistically I need a graphic novel to get to that)
Total Time Read: 10 hours (Target was 10 hours Yay!)
Total Books finished: 2 Hamlet Revenge by Michael Innes The River of Adventure (Adventure, #8) by Enid Blyton

Bingo:
2 lines completed
15 squares completed

message 495: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments How many books did you read during this readathon? 4

Did you have any favorites? The Great Gatsby

How many books did you finish? 2

Did you accomplish your goals for this readathon? I managed to reach my target of reading for 10 hours.

How did your snacks and meals work out? Good

Are there things you would change about the food and beverages side of your readathon for next time? Nope

Did you enjoy this readathon? Loved it!

What was the most successful part of your readathon? Meeting my hour target.

What would you change for next time? Nothing

Will you be continuing your readathon reading past the end of our official readathon? I'll spend the next week finishing the 2 books I now have on the go.

Additional Note: This time I co-moderated 2 x 1 hour discussions (hour 5 & hour 23) both these hours worked well for me and I'd be happy to do it again. I enjoyed spending time answering the hourly questions and creating my own. The only downside was it took me away from the personal readathon logs so I was less aware of how others were doing in their personal challenges. I need to strike a better balance between the reading logs and hourly questions next time.

message 496: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments Glad you were able to meet your target.
I also like the hourly discussion, but it does take a lot. It is all about finding the balance, right?
Hope to see you again in July at the next one.
