Megan Thanks for posting all of this Caroline! I'll see which of my March planned books that still need to be read work for which letters and add in some more as well. I"ll get back to you all later today with my list!

Also Caroline in response to your earlier comment I'll push The Girl with All The Gifts (Yellow 2) into April and save a color card for next month.

I can still read Harry Potter 6 (Green 3) if needed, if not I can push it into April as well

Green 0 - The Troop by Nick Cutter
Red 4 - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling
Green 3 - The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next, #1) by Jasper Fforde

I can move my other color card books to April...

Just saw Megan's message about moving her Green 3 to April so I'll keep my Green 3 for March

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 871 comments Megan I think Harry Potter is a great book for finding letters - since it also works for Green 3 maybe I should move my Green book to April.

Caroline, would you like me to save my Green 3 book to April?

message 207: by Alexa (new)

Alexa Carver (alexacarver) Hey everyone! I'm just popping by to say that I'm alive, just haven't had time to post any updates lately. March has been crazy so far! I've finished two books so far for March and I'll post them in my planning post when I get a chance.

No, unfortunately UNO rules do not count Four being the same as Fourth :/

message 209: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (paper_moonshine) | 822 comments Well actually Jenna and Megan it looks like I have a pretty simple solution for this one: we'll use neither. I was just updating the spreadsheet and it looks like Ricka has slid in with a book that will work for Green 3 already done :D

However, I'll leave the decision to you two if you still want to use your green books for this month. One the one hand its good to have back ups, on the other we could end up with no green cards the way we did with no blue this month. Dealer's choice, ladies.

message 210: by Caroline (last edited Mar 18, 2018 01:58AM) (new)

Caroline (paper_moonshine) | 822 comments Alright just to condense our color conversation and double check we're all on the same page:

We have FINISHED
Red 2
Wild Draw 4 #1 (doubled the Red 2 card)
Yellow 1
Yellow 2
Red 8
Green 3
Wild Draw 4 #2 (doubled the Yellow 1)
Red 4

Plan for remaining cards:
Green 0 - Jenny - The Troop
Red 5 - Nicole - The Vegetarian
Wild Draw 4 #3 - Virna - The Help (doubles the Yellow 2)

As for the mini-challenge
I want to treat the 4, the two Ys, three Us, and the Q like colored cards. So I would like if people will take a look specifically for those letters and claim them.
Remember that we can use items on the cover to count for letters!

4 - Four Blind Mice - Jenny - Title
Q - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - Megan - Character: Quirrell
U - Under the Tuscan Sun - Virna - Title
U - The Amazing Maurice & His Educated Rodents - Caroline - Location: Überwald
U - The Ticket: A Romantic Comedy - Second Chances - Jenny - Underwear on the cover
Y - Homegoing - Virna - Author: Yaa
Y - Mary, Bloody Mary - Jenny - Series: Young Royals

Otherwise my advice at the moment is to try and organize your reading so that you hit the maximum number of books over the next two weeks if you can and take good notes for letters. Also please try to check in (as soon as you reasonably can) after each book you finish. This is a challenge that is going to depend on our communication and ability to shift our planning quickly to finish, but I know we can do it :D

Also we only have 37 UNO cards left!

Don't worry, Caroline, Megan..I am confident that I can finish The Help really soon. Probably today or tomorrow. :)

Wow, those are a LOT of A's. Anyway, noted on the (special/rare) mini challenge cards. Just thirty minutes to go till the challenge starts!

Mini-Challenge Updates:
From my original reading plan:
She Who Remembers by Linda Lay Shuler - L: Author

Additional Mini-Challenge Plan:
Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes - U: Title

I'm also thinking of another U and the number 4 spots.
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin and The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle.
But I cannot commit to them yet. Let me finish these books first and update accordingly. :) If anyone wants to take these books as suggestions, feel free to take them!

By the way, here is my original reading plan post, for added convenience:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Edit (03/24/18):
Completed:
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi - Y: Author

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 871 comments I found this book for 4 - it works for another challenge too so I'm psyched it will help out here

Four Blind Mice (Alex Cross, #8) by James Patterson
Four Blind Mice by James Patterson

I can claim a Q too for this book

Mary, Bloody Mary (Young Royals, #1) by Carolyn Meyer - Queen Anne Boleyn is a character in the book

Ooh and I think I have a U for this book

The Ticket A Romantic Comedy - Second Chances by Heather Grace Stewart - underwear on the cover !

Jenny - the 4 is perfect and its always great when a book can work for multiple challenges ;) unfortunately titles don't count for UNO, so we cant use queen for Q :/ we can use it for Y though, since it's the first in the Young Royals series

Ok great! I'll swap in the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This will also take care of one of the Q letters (Character: Quirrell) and can work for several other letters as well if needed.

P.S. I might be pushing The Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan for next month instead to focus on specific mini challenge books...if I can help myself! Haha.

Go Team Hydrus!

P.P.S. Just for those who are interested about the books mentioned in The Help by Kathryn Stockett, I have listed them down and collected them here:

message 230: by Megan (new)

Megan Just to post a quick update on the mini challenge, I’ve finished The Outsiders and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I’m starting my next book but wanted to check which letters we still need, I’m sure Harry Potter can cover quite a few!

message 231: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (paper_moonshine) | 822 comments Yea Tineye is so weird. I can`t figure out why excluding most of the picture would be the default option xD

Also, Nicole`s The Vegetarian took care of one of the Y cards. I believe Virna is already reading her Y book if you want to push Mary, Bloody Mary off (if you need to).

Megan that`s great to hear! So glad to get the Q card finished xD Doing another HP book should be fine, right off the bat I know we can at very least use Ron for one of our R cards :D

Hiraya (artsynanay) | 63 comments Hi, just want to update that I already finished Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and have already started Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes, both for the mini challenge. :)

Sorry about not having to go online as often. It's almost Holy Week (a week-long religious holiday) here in the Philippines, and my article deadlines are swamping as usual. I am so happy that we are almost finished with the challenge!

message 241: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (paper_moonshine) | 822 comments It's no problem Virna :D Holy Week sounds interesting! What kinds of things are you guys celebrating? What do you typically do during the week?

message 242: by Hiraya (new)

Hiraya (artsynanay) | 63 comments Caroline wrote: "It's no problem Virna :D Holy Week sounds interesting! What kinds of things are you guys celebrating? What do you typically do during the week?"

It officially starts on Holy Thursday, on Christ's Agony in the Garden, and lasts until Easter Sunday. It's a little bit different depending on where you are in the Philippines. For instance, people usually fast and abstain from eating meat during Good Friday, but there's a province here which actually welcomes it with a feast because from their point of view, the redemption of sins must be celebrated.

Some people also practice to be crucified every year as a form of their devotion. While others may walk barefoot for miles while flogging themselves.

In our province, my absolute favorite tradition when I was a kid was to watch another kid, dressed in an angel costume, being lowered from a tower (much to the kid's horror) by a harness, in order to remove Mary's veil and see the risen Christ, during early Easter Sunday morning. It's called "Salubong".

It's interesting how much politics and power play go into the selection of that one special angel. Yet, almost every child views this prospect as an absolute nightmare.

message 243: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (paper_moonshine) | 822 comments That sounds really interesting - and kind of intense! I'd really like to visit during Holy Week one year :D do you guys also practice lent in the lead up to Easter?

Hiraya (artsynanay) | 63 comments Caroline wrote: "That sounds really interesting - and kind of intense! I'd really like to visit during Holy Week one year :D do you guys also practice lent in the lead up to Easter?"

Yes, we do practice the Lenten season, but mostly it's only by attending the Ash Wednesday mass, then by abstaining from meat every Friday. Others, I bet, have other practices and devotions, but for our family, the real action starts during the Holy Week. :)

Lets go ahead and getting planning! Don't forgot to click OFF the little tickey box for "exclude background color" on tineye when you check your books

Important
Please indicate how sure you are you are going to get to your color book in your tracking thread for April. If you are 100% you're going to get to the book, great, I'll put your book(s) here and you can claim the card. For instance, several of mine are up here because I MUST read these books in April for a different challenge over in another group. But, I'm not sure if I'll get to a red one I have, so it's not up here yet. If you're not sure right this second about some/all of your books, that is of course totally fine - I'm just putting this here so we're all on the same page as to why not everyone's books are up here yet : )

* The two yellow 9 cards is not a mistake, we do have two identical colored cards
