Hello all! Starting up the monthly discussions for February 2018 book-of-the-month suggestions. This discussion is for the CLASSICS CATEGORY.

As a reminder, books that qualify for this category must have a publication date 1969 and before. If the book you wish to nominate was published in 1970 or after, please make your suggestion on the Modern Classics/Popular Reads thread.

For 2018, we will be trying some new monthly themes, the first being NON-FICTION.
Please nominate a book that is designated as non-fiction.

Will start off by suggesting The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.

I've read this one, but I'm seconding it, it's a great read.
And not originally in the English language, so it's a good choice for variety as well.

Brian wrote: "Nominate Cat's Cradle and The Grapes of Wrath"

As Dracula, Cat's Cradle, and The Grapes of Wrath are not Nonfiction titles, they will not be eligible this month. You can nominate again next month, thanks!

message 14: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Guys, it would be a good habit to read the opening message at least sometimes! :-)

It changes, it is not the same ever, and usually has all the important guidelines for the nominations of the month.

message 16: by Kyra (new)

Kyra Keeton | 280 comments I will second Walden and The Communist Manifesto as I thought about adding those as well.

message 17: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Well, I intended to nominate Survival in Auschwitz, also published in English as If This Is A Man, by Primo Levi (Se questo è un uomo).

Considered one of the most important books on the Holocaust. Also a trilogy.

But that'd be a direct competition to "Night", with the very same theme.

So, I'll second Night.
