B Schrodinger I'm committing! I have a baby, so there may be some children's books, comics or audiobooks as that's mainly what I can manage these days.

No fair blaming things on an innocent baby. how old is he/She

I've got a couple of grandbabies here and what I do is whatever book I'm reading I'll read to them.

Wow, I thought we were low with 12-15 across the entire country but that's with a 15th of the US population.

I grew up with a rural one down the road so we'd head down once every few months and watch double headers out of the back of the truck. Great memories, especially with the massive gust of wind out of nowhere during Twister (unplanned).

We used to go every couple of weeks when I was a teenager as they were still popular back then. Now I looked over the list and it didn't have the one that is not far from where my mom lives so there is more than 25.

I’m 31, and I grew up in Springfield, MO with a drive-in about 45 minutes away in Aurora. It was very popular, and so much fun. As far as I know it’s still there. I want to think there was another one a little bit further away, but not sure. Now I live 45 minutes from Atlanta, GA and there’s one there, we just haven’t checked it out yet.

"8. "Missed it by that much" - a book you really wanted to read but didn't have time for - difficult to find one here, so I'll just list a book (I can make time for any book if I really want to read it so I'll randomly choose one: Yes, Chef and no, it's not about Gordon Ramsey's show"

This one is an excellent read about a chef who was born in Ethiopia, raised in Sweden after being adopted by a Swedish family, rose to prominence as a chef in New York and at this point in the book, after thinking he was an orphan finally met his real father. It's fascinating and very well written

I totally misread this category to mean "the color gold on the cover, whether the author's name or the title" and Donald's post here enlightened me. Thanks, Donald, now I have a few more choices!

Probably will go with The Golden Horn since I loved the first book in this series and am anxious to continue with it. Sorry, The Queen of the Damned!

It also neatly fits into the Owned Books Challenge, so double win.

Dear friends. As we are already at 4 pages and people are asking questions AND trying to plan here, Sarah and I have decided that we're going to try having individual challenge threads in this folder.

Here are the rules.

1. All questions and updates for the group should be posted in the challenge threads. Mods will NOT be checking individual threads.

2.You can name it whatever you'd like as long as it's not graphic or rude, and contains your name in the title.

3. The name of your challenge should include whether or not you'd like to allow people to comment on your thread.

Ex. Allison's Gonna Totally Stay Focused 2018 - No Comments

or

Allison's Gonna Change Her Mind Constantly! - Comments OK

4. If anyone is breaking rules on your thread (either those you set or group rules) please message either of us and link to the issue. We'll take care of it.

5. Each member gets one thread for ALL group challenges, not one thread per challenge.

Have fun and good luck!!

The Robin Hood Hacker Series: Robin Hood Hacker Collection Robin Hood Hacker Collection by Carolyn McCray

So this book has both, the Hacker who hacks companies and criminal organizations to give the money to charity and gives her partner Birthday presents like meeting his idol on a train for a private conversation is open for elements of humor at every turn.

The horror aspect is a Secret Society using 'Biological' weapons to create mass death to cull the masses of humanity so that the elite can take over as they should.

It occasionally becomes difficult to suspend the disbelief, but overall it is a fun read.

So one down, five hundred to go. LOL.

2018 TBR Cleanup Challenge!
Duration:
1/1/2018 - 12/31/2018

Progress: 23 out of 23 (For Now)

The TBR Cleanup Challenge is back by popular demand! So, for those who have not participated in a challenge like this before, the goal is to take the books you want to read, plug them into the areas they fit, and finally make some progress on your TBR.

You may choose to do as many as you would like. If you only want to do a few then that's fine. We will try really hard not to judge you. won't judge. It fun to do this even if you can't do all of them.

I changed the criteria this year and I had a lot of fun doing it. I hope everyone else enjoys them as much as I did.

Then I finished A Gentleman in Moscow and realised it would fit perfectly because I would both marry the Count and kill the Bishop.

Rule #1: Finish the challenges in order. Rule #2: unread SF&FBC bookshelf books

1. The 13th book: Kushiel's Dart, which finally escaped whatever GR list-tracking black hole it was trapped in.

Currently in progress on Doctor Who: The Coming of the Terraphiles, published 2010 and written by Michael Moorcock, born in December 1939. This makes Mr. Moorcock 70 and male at the time of writing, which fits my personal "geezer" definition. Those who feel improperly classified by this definition may apply for a waiver. Message 184

Wow, Patrick, that's a great, kinda hardcore looking list! I hope you love what you read!

message 189: by Tim (new)

Tim | 5 comments Sherlock Holmes is not a novel. He is a character in a series of novels and short stories.

Novels

* A Study in Scarlet (published 1887 in Beeton's Christmas Annual)
* The Sign of the Four (published 1890 in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine)
* The Hound of the Baskervilles (serialised 1901–1902 in The Strand)
* The Valley of Fear (serialised 1914–1915 in The Strand)

Short story collections
The short stories, originally published in magazines, were later collected in five anthologies:

* The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (stories published 1891–1892 in The Strand)
* The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (stories published 1892–1893 in The Strand)
* The Return of Sherlock Holmes (stories published 1903–1904 in The Strand)
* His Last Bow: Some Later Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes (stories published 1908–1917)
* The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (stories published 1921–1927)

Pat the Book Goblin Thank you! They've been on my to read shelf for a while. Hopefully I can get to all of them!

I had to look up what a genre-bender was though haha. I'm glad Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell fit in one of the 20 somewhere!

Pat the Book Goblin @ Thank you for that Tim but I put that there because I intend to read all of them :D

or also in this wonderful Delphi collected works

Complete Works of Arthur Conan Doyle

which I'm working on (I've read the Sherlock Holmes stories, the professor Challenger novels, Micah Clarke, and am about to start on The White Company). The complete Mark Twain took over 2 years of bedtime reading, so I expect this one to do the same

Ummm, am I reading that correctly? It looks like that digital only books is 11,000 pages. I don't think Sarah has a category for that in the owned books challenge.

message 196: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6153 comments I'd have to go with the 1000+ points but there's not much likelihood I'll finish it this year. However i might finish this one

William Styron, The Collected Novels: Lie Down in Darkness, Set This House on Fire, The Confessions of Nat Turner, and Sophie's Choice

which is 2262 pages
