Jeremy (madbaker) I'm looking forward to the new St Mary's book from Jodi Taylor, but her current publisher doesn't seem to sell outside the UK in any timely way.

message 702: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3167 comments Simon Jimenez whose book The Vanished Birds was a surprise hit for me (I think it's on the shelf?) is releasing a new one this year that looks like it's more fantasy:

The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez

I'll definitely give it a try.

message 703: by SJ (new)

SJ I’m waiting for the 3rd Scholomance book, the sequel to The Gilded Ones, and the sequel to A Dark and Hollow Star

message 704: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments Thanks Sarah for the tip! Love Jimenez's debut novel and will be sure checking out his next one.

message 705: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3167 comments Yes! I was kind of surprised to see it was fantasy but super excited to see what he does with it.

The fourth and final novel in Maja Lunde's climate quartet (starts with The History of Bees) is finally coming out! The Norwegian pub date is September 9th, 2022, and I guess that means that lucky Gabi will get to read it soon after in German, and I'll have to wait a couple of months longer for the Finnish edition, and then the English edition will be out about a year or so later.

Drømmen om et tre

message 707: by Nicci (new)

Nicci (niccit) | 55 comments I'm also looking forward to Jimenez's The Spear Cuts Through Water. I count Jimenez's The Vanished Birds as one of the books that convinced me to start reading SFF again.

Also looking forward to Ocean's Echo, and Vows of Empire,

message 708: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3167 comments Claire North is releasing a retelling of The Odyssey from Penelope's perspective: Ithaca.

On some level I'm surprised we aren't all sick of Greek mythology but having read The Penelopiad earlier this year I'm super excited for this.

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3168 comments Steven Brust is publishing another Vlad Taltos book- Yay!!! It's to be released in September 2023: Tsalmoth. I know at least CBRetriever will be happy with me :)

message 710: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3168 comments Actually, now it's saying April of 2023, which is even better!

message 711: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I found some info about Maja Lunde's upcoming book in English.

"The Dream of a Tree is set in Spitsbergen at Svalbard in 2110, after a global collapse. Five children are all alone, one of them guarding the access to a frozen seed vault, containing thousands of seeds from all over the world.

The final installment of Maja Lunde’s Climate Quartet asks important questions about responsibility and sustainability, and human’s place in nature. It is also a chilling and gripping tale on our responsibility, both as a species and as individuals."

and

"In this setting, characters from The History of Bees and The End of the Ocean will meet again."

yes, most definitely!!!!

message 713: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments Comping Ursula LeGuin is a risky maneuver, since there is plenty of room for disappointment. I'm still interested in this one by the author of BOTM Winter Tide:

A Half-Built Garden by Ruthanna Emrys

message 714: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments From a promo email. The blurb reads almost like the plot could be transplanted into a fantasy novel without much difficulty, which I personally have no problem with. In any case, I'm a huge sucker for a big ol' cityscape, so this cover is great.

The Stars Undying by Emery Robin

Thank you for this, Beth! Science Fiction retelling sounds excellent.

message 716: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Webber | 20 comments Sadly, I was looking forward to the next book of the Tales of Lost Power series by Vincent Trigili until he passed away in 2020. Now I can only wonder what was next.

message 717: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3168 comments An author I'm currently reading just recently passed away from Covid.

message 718: by Kaa (new)

Kaa | 1541 comments Max Gladstone just announced a brand new book in the Craft Sequence world - Dead Country. It will be the first book in a new trilogy called the Craft Wars.

message 719: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Burridge | 507 comments The library has a copy of All the Seas of the World ready for me, and a copy of Amongst Our Weapons in transit to the local branch. Looking forward to both.

How sad to have authors we enjoyed leave us! Glad we have something to remember them by at least. These picks look great yall.

message 721: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3168 comments Maybe we will actually be reading The Doors of Stone in the not-too-distant future. One can certainly hope! Here is his blog with the reference about him reading the prologue this December, and then he mentions chapter one.

message 722: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3168 comments Actually, I was so excited about getting that book in my hands that I mis-typed in my post above. A thousand apologies!! I meant this past December, not next December.

message 723: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1221 comments I'm really looking forward to Terminal Peace by Jim C. Hines. I've really enjoyed the first two in the series, and I'm doing a bit of a reread to be ready.

I really enjoyed the first book in that series. Very funny!

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments The adorable tea dragons are coming in a box set! I think I'll have to buy it for my brother, I've already gifted him the two tea dragon cards games :D and have desperately tried to find the tea dragon puzzles on sale somewhere that ships to me, so far with no luck. We both love these books so much, it's the perfect gift for him, even though I've promised I won't buy more books for him until he makes a dent in the pile I've already given him.

The Tea Dragon Society Box Set

edit: Yaaayyy, I found the puzzles! One of the European stores that were supposed to get them but didn't now finally have them! A hundred euros for a huge tea dragon haul? Yes please! ^_^

Raucous | 888 comments Anna wrote: "The adorable tea dragons are coming in a box set! I think I'll have to buy it for my brother, I've already gifted him the two tea dragon cards games :D ..."

Gosh, they're adorable in the card games and puzzles too. I'd sort of been hoping for a cooperative style of game though. After decades in a confrontational academic setting my normal gaming partner want nothing to do with games that have winners and losers. I can't say that I blame them.

Will there be a ebook version of the collected set as well?

message 727: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I didn't see a digital edition, but I guess it's possible?

We've only played the tea dragon card games once each, and it wasn't a very good game, unfortunately :D I don't remember why exactly, but no one wanted to play again after we'd tried both versions.

(I just read a middle grade book today that had rules of a card game running through it and it ended with a co-op house rules note and I bawled my eyes out. Anyone looking for a heartbreaking MG book that puts your heart back together at the end, check out A Game of Fox & Squirrels by Jenn Reese. Content warning: (view spoiler))

message 729: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments Kate Elliott's Furious Heaven seems to have been delayed a bit but now has a release date in March of 2023.

Willow (Taylor's version) | 22 comments Saraswati wrote: "I’m waiting for the 3rd Scholomance book, the sequel to The Gilded Ones, and the sequel to A Dark and Hollow Star"

I'm so excited for the third Scholomance book too! :D I'm pretty sure it's called The Golden Enclaves

message 731: by M.L. (new)

M.L. | 947 comments The Ink Black Heart, Robert Galbraith is scheduled for Aug 30 release and I'm super excited. :o This will be even longer than Troubled Blood (900-something pages). There are several different page numbers given for it, but Amazon has 1,024 so I'll go with that. She's definitely as longwinded as ever but sure fun to read.

message 732: by Anna (last edited Jun 24, 2022 10:04AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Did we know there's a third book coming in the Children of Time series by Adrian Tchaikovsky? Children of Memory is out in November. Makes me feel less bad about not having read Children of Ruin yet.

(The Adrian superfans probably knew! :D )

edit: Adrian churns books out at such a wild pace, I never remember which ones I already heard about, so maybe is this very old news.

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments Beth wrote: "Kate Elliott's Furious Heaven seems to have been delayed a bit but now has a release date in March of 2023."

Elliott posted an image of this book's cover on her Patreon a number of days ago, saying that there would be an official reveal of the US cover the next day. If it was supposed to be on tor.com, I never saw it some through. In any case, enough time has gone by that I don't feel uncomfortable posting it here, especially since the US Kindle edition's cover is now on GR. This cover is quite cool imo, even though I'm usually not fond of photo treatments.

I still have to read the first book... lol. I do like this cover though!

message 735: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments That cover makes me want to continue the series! I wasn’t going to because I had a hard time getting into the first book, but now I want to reread it just so I can read this one 😄

message 746: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments @Meredith: for 2023 I would love to say I'm most looking for "Knights of Wind and Truth" (SA 5) - but it has been postponed till 2024.

So the one I'm most looking for would be "Lords of Uncreation", the final volume in the Final Architecture series by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

CBRetriever | 6111 comments I'm going to be very, very, very optimistic and say the next two books in Patrick Rothfuss' and George R.R> Martin's series

the very, very, very is a tribute to the French way of often saying tres tres tres (tres tres is very common, but for extremes the third tres is trotted out)

I sympathize! The next Lady Astronaut book was pushed to 2024 as well.
