Yes, I'm going to stop being stubborn and increase anti-inflams. Got really strong painkillers yesterday, can only take then at night. Thanks for the concern. Got confirmation from pets at home today, we can do our first event on 25th March, which I've agreed to do! Snow going but sky looks like it has some in it

Sorry to hear that Patti

Tim | 8539 comments Thanks Elizabeth. Minus eight outside at the mo (according to the car). I have on two sweatshirts a fleece and a Terry dressing gown . . .

I hope your boiler gets sorted before Terry demands his dressing gown back.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. It's early here, but they're already cancelling buses due to weather.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all. Woke to a winter wonderland and -5.7 on the thermometer. The trains are still running so I'll be going to work.

Stay warm and safe folks.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Wear spikes on your shoes when you walk outside. That icy stuff's slippery.

Tim | 8539 comments -4 right now. Morning. Heading off to Newbury in a bit for meetings - at least I shall be warm there & in the car!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, could barely get my slipper on this morning, so am working from home again. Phone says -6 and we have lots of snow, so probably a good thing I'm not leaving the house

Keep safe everyone,

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, I've had the heating on for two hour and we haven't reached 14.5 indoors yet :( Draughty old buildings and a windchill of -20 are not a good combo.

Got to go into Edinburgh, trains are running fine apparently. Daughter has an appointment at the eye hospital. Given our family history I am worried sick.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Good luck for your daughter R

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Finally been told what we're doing today as none of us were prepared to risk it heading in for training (a shift would have been different!). Day at home doing essay work, definitely sounds much better!
Fingers crossed for your daughter Rosemary x

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Hope all goes well with your daughter Rosie. It's a worry.
More overnight snow here but it's the wind that's evil. Chicken refused to come out this morning so I made her a warm mash and put it inside the house. She scoffed it PDQ but she's still inside away from the wind. Bird brain? It works for her.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Bit chilly in the valley this morning, and I was hoping to wake up to a mountain of snow, but no such luck! Plenty of roadworks on the way to Carmarthen thins morning, however, which made a 35 minute journey an hour and a quarter. Can't complain though, it's nice to have a day of work and the half term's a short one, so looking forward to easter.

Coffee and grindstone time for me. If you're out and about in the white stuff, or just in general, take care. And hope the appointment goes well, Rosemary.

message 3064: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Hope everything's okay with your daughter, Rosemary.

Transport systems dropping like flies up here. I made it to work half an hour late.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Spoke too soon, now have to report to nearest base. Wrapped up warm for a walk now!

Jim | 21809 comments Hope your daughter's OK Rosemary.
Here just an evil wind with a little powdery snow about 7am
Looking east, the north of Morecambe Bay was clear, the South of the Bay was horrendous, couldn't see across it. The lakeland fells are covered by cloud (or something)

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Mor .... oops ... afternoon alls. Snow's arrived here in Cornwall now. Bloody parky too! Not too much snow yet but more than a dusting. Have to go down to the beach later to get a pic.

message 3068: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments A tiny dusting of snow that sadly vanished too quickly.

The wind is another matter. That can vanish as quickly as it likes!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Hasn't stopped snowing here today, and thanks to the wind, it is settling in drifts, plus unusually, corners of windowsills and doorsteps. Looks quite powdery though

That's a shame Claire

message 3070: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Our office is being closed early (at 3) due to extreme weather. A fair few other places seem to be doing the same thing too.

message 3071: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You know you lot talking about snow as you do makes me cackle, don't you?

Dave's experiencing snow in b'wade. Described it as snow, then sun, then snow.

It's called squalls, dear. Worry when you see drifts so high you don't have anywhere to shovel it.

I don't think you lot need to concerned that you didn't put up snow fences last fall.

message 3072: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments A few flurries here & there, with sunshine in between. Drove to my meeting in Newbury without a hitch (although the satnav seemed to want to show me every single track road with a hint of a snowbank, despite there being a perfectly sensible route which it ignored)

Bought another heater on the way home, cos even claiming it's an emergency, I can't find a plumber prepared to come out before next week!)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Thanks for the good wishes everyone, looks like it's nothing too serious fortunately although they want to do a few more scans. Her father being an interesting case means that they took special care I think. And I've managed to get home - it's a proper blizzard out there now. Train was near full with people leaving work early, all the schools are shut now.

Sending warm thoughts to Tim and to all else who needs the heat!

message 3074: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) The problem, Patti, is that because this country only gets heavy (for us) snow every few years, no-one's bothered to put the infrastructure in place to deal with it!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We've got a red warning I'll have you know Patti!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Did you put up snow fences?

message 3077: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Patti (baconater) wrote: "Did you put up snow fences?"

I don't think most of the UK (including me, before now) even knows what they are.

Jim | 21809 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "I don't think you lot need to concerned that you didn't put up snow fences last fall. ..."

There are snow fences alongside the A66 in places, and on a couple of other roads. But they're not what I'd call common :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Fences made of snow?

Jim | 21809 comments Benjamin wrote: "The problem, Patti, is that because this country only gets heavy (for us) snow every few years, no-one's bothered to put the infrastructure in place to deal with it!"

to be fair, it would be a total waste of money.
Put in the infrastructure, spend the money to maintain it, and you'd not use it more than twice a decade

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I just looked outside. Must be a full inch of snow out there...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Hmm, just looked at the snowdrift in front of the car, doubt my micra would get over it and its still snowing

Cymru am byth!!!

(Even in earthquakes)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Now getting out of the house is tricky. Got my neighbour to look at my foot, she doesn't think its hot enough for gout

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Will wrote: "Call a helicopter! GL needs rescuing from disaster!"

I don't need to go anywhere. As long as Tesco keep doing their deliveries I'll be fine.

And I just went in to the website do an order for friday and found that they have closed out the orders for friday already, so I have to wait until saturday. Not sure if its because they are trying to keep the drivers safe or because everyone one is getting panic deliveries!

message 3091: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments If you believe the news reports, the world's about to end, with the amount of panic buying!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, that was a wild night! Apparently all the roads out of town are all closed apart from one and that is only passable with care, and not advised. And we're on the coast! Must be much worse inland.

message 3093: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Trains seem to be running here (so I've no excuse not to get to work) but businesses are closing across the area.

message 3094: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Morning all. Brrrr!

Light dusting of white powder overnight, is all. Snowing now, although not heavily.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, been snowed in for only the second time in the 15 years I've lived here and it's still snowing. A colleague has offerred a lift if he can get near, but he is leaving it for the snow to die down, so working from home first.

Hope you don't need to go anywhere R.

message 3096: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments No snow whatsoever but colder than charity with a savage wind

message 3097: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments We have the same as Jim. When I broke the ice on the outside water containers this morning, it was a quarter of an inch thick!

message 3098: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Still snowing here and a little bit windy so the snow is drifting
Very little moving on the road by mums which is usually a very busy road so it isn't clearing
The bus to work yesterday turned a less than ten minute journey to nearer an hour and since today seems worse I am working from home

message 3099: by Elizabeth (last edited Mar 01, 2018 03:16AM) (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

Snow has been falling for two nights and a day - there's a six inch smurf hat on the bird house and we woke up this morning to a huge snow overhang above the bedroom window. (Part of this has now fallen off and crushed some of the pots.)
It looks like a second day of snow showers - bright sunshine in between!
The estate is snowed in - being on the side of a hill - and it doesn't look as though any of the neighbours have made any attempt to shovel their cars out of the driveways.
The gritter hasn't shown, so we are hazarding that a councillor no longer lives in the lower reaches.
