Gonna buy a big steak on the way home. And wine!

Our problem is the total lack of gas added to the fact that in rural areas the electric can just go off (In one case for six and a half days)
You might have more cleaning but at least you're doing it in the warm :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Sorry to hear you have no back up heating, I rarely use my electric fire, but like to have it in case.

message 2955: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Don't even get me started on electrics.

They inspected our flat today and we got an email an hour ago telling us to move out tonight.

Like that's gonna happen.

Told them if it's been safe enough for us to live in for the last six years, it's safe enough until they can fix whatever the problem is next week.

No fucking way are we dicking about with that shit the day before Dave travels and I'm on my own here.

So fed up with this place.

Jim | 21809 comments that's a bit damned rich Patti!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You're a true diplomat, Jim.

Damn good thing we dealt with this by email.

I'm not making promises about not shouting at someone at some point though.

At some point I can imagine somebody quaking in an office saying "You realise you've provoked a Canadian to swearing!" ;-)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Keep us updated, Patti. But no one wants you and Dave living somewhere if it is unsafe, either

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, woke up at 5.30, thought I heard a weird knocking noise! Foot was so painful I couldn't get downstairs for painkillers. Hoping I'll get to sit down a lot at the fundraiser today

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, we’re home safe and sound. Had really good journey yesterday no hold ups till we hit the rush hour traffic from Bristol onwards, Cardiff was a nightmare. No reason for it once clear of 40limits on the motorway which bunches everyone up it was fluid. Still took us 13 hours which is a long while. The dogs were so good, not a squeak out of them all the way. Except when we saw dogs at the Tunnel check in. We do see some ‘anomalies’ in the regulations though. 4or 5 dogs in the car and i understand it’s only 3 allowed. I’m not a policeman and our day is long enough so I’m not going to do statements etc and im certainly not prepared to get thumped by an Eastern European puppy smuggler even if my sense of what’s right is screaming “Do something” .

message 2964: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Glad you're home safe, Lynne - and hope things get sorted Patti.
We were out late last night, and I'm still aching all over.

message 2965: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning. It's Saturday! I don't have to get on a train. Which will be nice.

message 2966: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I actually felt motivated to go outside and start doing some of the heavy garden maintenance. And guess what? Everywhere is too frozen.

message 2967: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Mine too, Will. If it's not warm enough to sit on the soil you should be inside drinking tea or coffee (delete as applicable).

I am, as I always seem to be at the moment, 'ead 'itting.

message 2968: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Dave's just left for the airport.

And to make things completely perfect, I seem to have stomach flu.

message 2969: by Kath (last edited Feb 24, 2018 05:31AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh heck, Patti. Maybe that's a thing to have by yourself, though. You can just crawl away and hide till you feel more human. I've been there with the ailing elderly rellies. It's not a nice time and you have to do what you can to get through it.

message 2970: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Drink lots of fluids and electrolytes, Patti - dehydration makes things worse. Hope it's over soon.

message 2971: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Dave just rang me from the lounge and insisted on having a conversation about how often I've peed today

Sucks he's got me to worry about as well as everything else.

I feel better than I did in the night, anyway.

Gonna try n sleep now. On the couch. Don't think I can manage the stairs to go to bed. I'm feeling decidedly wobbly.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Jeez Patti, that sounds horrible. Keep drinking. I hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Talking of um ... poo ... I've done a blog post about drain rodding if anyone's interested. I was too much of a dunderhead not to feature myself this week.

https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/02/24/fu...

Everyone else, hope you are all dandy and Desley, hope your foot is OK and you got to do your fundraiser with your feet up.

I have to be corporate wife tonight. 'Smart casual' which means blokes in jumpers and jeans, me in smart casual gear and the other women in evening dress. Unless I wear evening dress in which case they'll all be looking casual. I'll wear trousers and a jacket with a nice silk scarf to glam it up.

Cheers

MTM

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments That’s rough being ill on your own Patti. Still he won’t do what my darling did, I was really nauseous and he cooked his own dinner. The garlic smell made me feel so much worse. So long as you’ve got everything you need in the drinks and medicine departments.
How’s your foot Desley?
I went in the garden as it’s very lovely here, suny but cold, to look if we’d got more primroses out and saw there’s were loads of those Crocosmia bulbs on the surface so I thought I’d pull them up. Couldn’t shift them they were frozen in. Good excuse, came in and watched the rugby.

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Hi all,

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well Patti, hope you feel better soon.

Good luck tonight MT!

We have finally(after 5 months) exchanged contracts on the house. We move on Friday. I was packing up my books today and Ally said "we will have more boxes of books than anything else"

She made it sound like a bad thing?

message 2975: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Congratulations on moving, Lindsay. It is such a huge job, I'm sure you're glad it will be over soon.

We're just starting.

message 2976: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I spent half the night in the bathroom. Ergh.

Think I'm on the mend now, though. Might try a bit of toast in a bit. Hopefully it'll stay put.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all. Sorry to hear you're ick, Patti. Doesn't sound fun.

Hope you soon feel better, Patti.
Well done with the house sale, Lindsay. I'm never moving again!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Good luck with the move Lindsay. Patti, hope you are through the worst and that Dave is getting on OK looking after his Mum and Dad.

It's bright and sunny here, just about to get up. It's church this morning - I'm reading the lesson and serving the coffee - then I'm out for a couple of hours metal detecting. Found a nice old coin last week so I'm hoping I'll get something this avo as well.

Morning all.

MTM

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Spoke to Dave. He's going to see his mother soon. Hope it's not too hard for him.

Toast seems to be staying put. Ish.

As long as I'm okay for work tomorrow, I don't mind if I'm not completely better.

message 2981: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Fingers crossed on all counts then Patti. :-)

message 2982: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks Mary. X

I'm going to make some jello for my Sunday lunch.

Yum.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, it is sunny out. Foot is slightly less painful, which is impressive, however my sciatica has decided to start twinging instead!! Took painkillers at 6 and fed all the cats to get a lie in, Lucy started crying at me at 10!! Need to do a bit of tidying and do some washing up but that is it for today. Supposed to be going out for tea, but not sure if I can be bothered to get dressed. Bit of a mixed day yesterday, we only had one person participate in our Buy a Brick campaign, only one person bought a mug but took £136 and had a few people wanting to adopt dogs in a few months, so raised a decent amount of awareness for the charity. One of the coldest indoor fundraisers I've ever done though!! Spent way too much in shops I don't get to go to very often though. A friend popped round just as I was finishing counting, so there was a delay in getting the stuff on Facebook which caused a disagreement between me and my neighbour. Jim - last year the doctor said I had arthritis in that foot caused by my bunion, not seen them this year in case it is different. Going for something else tomorrow so might see if she feels I need to do anything.

Sorry that you are ill while worrying about Dave who is worrying about you Patti. Good luck with the house move Lindsay, not sure why having more books than anything else is even worth mentioning!! Glad you are back safe Lynne, despite the long journey. It is a tricky one regarding other people breaking the rules. Hope your do went well last night MT

message 2984: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Jello takes forever to set.

I'm hungry. A good sign.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Good to hear it. I've been persuaded to get dressed to go out for tea, it is sunny if cold, just not thrilled at putting shoes on, lips are also really chapped

message 2986: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Cross fingers for your move, Lindsay.

I'm thinking of advertising for a terrorist to choose my place for an atrocity (obvioulsy when we are not in it) as a way of speeding up the disposal process.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Evening all, I've been a bit busy this weekend at an exhibition, sold a few paintings, regretted not watching the rugby and missing an excellent win, and have eaten an Empire biscuit this afternoon that was bigger than my head. So, you know, achievements.

Off to look for a bottle of wine in the cellar (ok it's a cupboard) so there had better be one in there. Or there will actually be tears before bedtime.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Had a lovely meal, we went to the pub we found last year when catching kittens but I couldn't go when my neighbour tried. Really enjoyed it. Chilling on the sofa, will finish housework tomorrow

Hope you find wine R, shame I couldn't drink today, would have tried quince gin

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Got to get up at 5.30 tomorrow so back to the routine, little grandson had a different haircut last week, he caught sight of himself and asked “Where did my hair go? “

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Hope you're feeling a bit better, Patti.

I don't know if it's better with or without Dave when you're sick, but being sick isn't ever fun. Hope you also have friends there who will make sure you're okay.

message 2992: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all. It's cold outside, but not yet the big cold we've been promised. Wrap up warm y'all!

message 2993: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Only a sprinkle of snow outside but there's a yellow warning for later.

message 2994: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Morning all. Plumber is due today to fix the heating . . . .

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, woke up at my usual time, hobbled down to feed the cats and find some painkillers, noticed we had some light snow that was sticking as it is dry. Got back up at 10.30 to find most of the snow had disappeared. Think I need to stop being stubborn and take more tablets for my foot. Bit of housework this morning, then docs, food shopping and online food shopping this afternoon!!

Hope you are feeling better Patti, good luck with the plumber Tim

message 2996: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each! Done an extra shop in case the forecast is correct. It's been sleeting all morning but not yet sticking. As we have a steep drive we may well be stuck if it comes in heavy overnight. Stocked up now. All keep warm, especially Tim.

message 2997: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments It's a pretty day here, and not too cold either.

No doubt that will change.

message 2998: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I made it through the day. Thanks, Alicia, yes I've plenty of friends looking out for me.

Really happy I'm working. There's nothing like teaching lovely bunch of kids to take your mind of your troubles.
