Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, wet and windy here too. Quiet day at work, 2 of my colleagues are out today

Glad Dave is feeling better Patti

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Six inches of snow here, which looks lovely but has brought all the traffic to a grinding halt.
My train was fine though - for some reason they get delayed by sunshine, rain and wet leaves, but appear to be snow-proof.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning. I nearly had a row yesterday. I kept it zipped but only just. Taking little lad to school, he’s so laid back, I started at 11 to get him lunch so he could be in school for 1. Anyway we are just walking through playground at 1 when a woman comes running after me and tells me I can’t come in that way. As I’d crossed the outer playground and was about to enter the nursery and we were a couple of minutes late. She told me I had to go in the other way. I didn’t know there was another way. It’s via an alley/twitchell between houses - it’s not obvious it’s even there. She told me to go back and come in via Prioryville. I didn’t know where or what Prioryville was. I was getting late by this time and I knew little lad couldn’t walk fast enough to retrace our steps and find this alleyway in time. If we hadn’t, the door to the nursery would have been locked and we’d have had to come all the way back to where we were. Then the hailstorm came so I grovelled and suggested as we weren’t told anything other I ‘d go in this way, exit the way she suggested then I could see where I have to go in future. She wasn’t happy. I was ok until the next one started on me just as I was leaving. “ Oi, You can’t go through there” she shouted, I smiled nicely “ I can but perhaps I may not” puzzled her for long enough for me to make a getaway. I’ve looked on the maps and there is no proper entrance. They are all back alleys between houses or alongside the football pitches. I’d not be pleased if I lived there for everyone to use them as a general thoroughfare. My daughter has a lane behind her house. It serves two terraced roads as access to their gardens, it feels a bit cheeky walking down these lanes if you’re not accessing a house there. Surely a lock on the playground gate would be sensible. Better not cause trouble we’ve only been going there three days :o)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I'd have asked who she was!!

Spoke to the claims person at my vet, she doesn't know why I'm in credit but suggested I accepted it. I thought I was going to be in a position of only claiming a couple of times a year, but she is happy to keep putting claims in on a monthly basis for Lu's acupuncture, so I have to pay at the end of the month to cover my excess, then stop paying and she will just let me know if I owe with the 15% I now have.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Afternoon, spent half the morning trying to get past a road block in my essay. 3/4 done and I'm struggling to figure out how to finish it. Didn't think I'd get writer's block in academic work, thought it that was reserved for my WIP! Need to find references as well which is proving tricky. Quite looking forward to the break when I go to town this afternoon!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Speaking of cheese. Oh c'mon. We discuss cheese all the time.

Over the holiday, I discovered I LOVE Red Leicester, so I brought back a couple of wax covered blocks. Looked at the this evening. They've got a best before date of January 8th.

Frikken redickalus. How can supermarkets get away with putting false best before dates on stuff?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That's a nonsense. Cheese like that would keep for 3 months refrigerated and I'd have thought a year if forzen.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Frozen, even.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments When you see those cheese storage places they keep them months. I don’t worry about cheese it never keeps in our house at all. Husband’s grandmother adored cheese and going to the cinema. She’d go into town buy her cheese, go to the Matinee showing and more often than not come out empty handed having nibbled her way through her weeks shopping of cheese.

I know my sister was several times told to buy some really nice crumbly Lancashire from a particular stall when she was in Ulverston.
The only way any made it back home was for my mother to ask for twice what she needed!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Thanks Patti. I've managed to get another couple of hundred words down. It's a reflection on a job I did but unlike any others, it's got to have references and things in. I'm doing about joint working between services (we had the air ambulance and police there) but finding papers on it is tricky. I think I've got most of what I need for the last few hundred words but I may be back tomorrow if I'm still stumped!!

The kids have swimming lessons this morning, which means busing them to a posh hotel to use the pool.
It's a change of scenery, anyway.

It's the German version of mulled wine. Very tasty! :)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments And it's reduced in Lidl at the moment too, so it's a win win situation :) Usually I make my own, but how could I resist? For medicinal purposes too.

Morning all. Looks fairly meh out there. The real weather seems to pass us by.

Stairs - 4 half-flights - are why we will be selling this house. Even if older people can manage them now, soon they may not be able to, so possibly your real estate agent can become more aware of this and not waste their - and your - time? They're supposed to bring you potential buyers!

One family they sent round had a son who is so disabled that he is permanently wheelchair bound. Another couple were both in need of crutches to mobilise.

Estate Agents deserve their poor reputation

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Phew, am exhausted but at least got tea at a reasonable hour! Forgot to mention, because I had to sort out cats, I had to send my neighbour to pick up the Santa's Grotto collection, which was £1k - unfortunately in the money given, so I have everything from 1p to £20 notes! Because of the weather I had to go the long way to sort cats out. Still got to sort out a cat whose owner has died, sort out some admin and get the website updated. Have flared my sciatica up too

Glad you are aware Kath. Enjoy Lindsay

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Just gonna have to have a little brag here, sorry. So last night, a bulb in my bathroom blew, 'tripping' the fuse. I have an ancient fuse box so couldn't just flick the switch back up. Then discovered this morning I also had no heating cos the timer wasn't working. Took a pic of the fuse box with me, rushed to B&Q after work (cos of course I couldn't finish on time could I?) and the electrical guy identified what the problem was (the lights and the heating were on the same circuit which is common apparently), what sort of fuse it was (fuse wire) and gave me a circuit breaker adapter thing to use instead.
I managed to successfully upgrade one of the cartridges in my fuse box with his instructions, in the dark, while trying to explain to my Dad what I was doing. I'm so chuffed! I'm not really DIY minded so I was envisaging being in the cold til Monday!
