Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Off now tonight by invitation, to perform The Dream of Macsen from The Mabinogion at a folk club in Neath.

Looking forward to it, as I've only done the story once before.

Jim | 21809 comments sounds an interesting night

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Alicia, this might confuse you more. My husbands uncle used to put the teapot in the oven at the side of the fire to keep it warm. It could still be there hours later, brewing, or mashing as they say in Nottingham, either way it was very dark brown. My grandmother used to put condensed milk in her tea.
No rain all day. Is this a Welsh record?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Forget that last bit - it’s raining.

message 2205: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've just driven home through very solid rain.

Normal service has been restored

message 2206: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Yep, some brew and some mash - we stewed. We had a metal teapot that sat on the cooker ring and bubbled away. Tea is stewing, we'd say.

Actually, think I'll have one final cuppa before bed.

Night all.

I'd believe just about anything about tea drinkers. Not my circus, not my monkeys. Enjoy your tea!

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all.

I recall my Grandmother's teapot which was never ever washed. For that matter, it was used so often during the day that it rarely went cold. The inside of the teapot was stained a deep deep brown. I hate to think what it was doing to her insides!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all. Raining here, not sure what the day has planned, need to finish the ironing after work, was that tired I couldn't finish it last night

message 2210: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Mild here for once - almost warm - though there are some stubborn ice patches clinging to life in the shadow of the deep woods.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I seem to be spending the day reading aloud to kids.

My previous teapot was coloured deep brown, to avoid that very issue.

message 2214: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

Rain as is the norm - all the low-level snow has disappeared.

I too had relatives who used to keep the teapot in the oven all day to keep the tea hot and stewed.

Hairdressers today. Growing out the layers is driving me closer to insanity than I am usually. Still, it's close to Aldi and they were selling a nice flavoured organic pinot gridge a couple of weeks ago, so I'll stock up if they still have it. The proverbial silver lining!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My ma In law had an aluminium teapot, every now and then she would put a scoop of persil in it and boil it up. My husband used to hate it when she did that. Tea tasted vile and soapy for a few days. He now has a little brown pot of his very own and if ever I need to wind him up I threaten to scour it.

Jim | 21809 comments Will wrote: "My previous teapot was coloured deep brown, to avoid that very issue. ..."

I remember my mother's tea pot was a brown one as well. :-)

message 2217: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments My mother had a stainless steel teapot. It was still brown on the inside!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Was surprised when I got to work and found we still have snow in the car park - where it was ploughed into a heap!!

message 2219: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments amazing how long snow will last in a heap
One year we emptied a slurry pit in a cold spell, without stirring it to break up the crust.
The pit was filled again and that summer when I tried to stir it up we had lumps of 'ice' coming up. Permafrost insulated by the muck on top of it :-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4835 comments Tea seems to have kicked off a lot of memories.

The States has a coffee tradition established - the husband goes through the gourmet beans/grind your own/special appliance at least three times a day. I just ignore it.

My beverage of choice, 2-3 measured quantities, is Diet Coke, and none after 3PM, delivered to me in a nice clean can which all I have to do for is to put the things in the refrigerator. Husband kindly keeps me supplied, even brings another box up from the basement as needed. I'm spoiled - and caffeinated to a known and exact degree.

Still isn't enough, but it helps.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I'm not very fond of tea either, but Coke really is the work of the devil. Diet or otherwise I'm not sure why anyone would want to drink it.

Curiously mild here today and blowing a hoolie. Managed to get the washing dried outdoors though (and it was still there when I went to collect it - professional level pegging skills).

Found out this afternoon I still don't really like Jaffa cakes. Occasionally I try one just to make sure, as I have this vague feeling I'm missing out...

message 2222: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Many people have told me I shouldn't be washing our teapot. Gross.

I put it in the dishwasher at least a couple times a week.

Dave's mother gave us a stainless steel teapot to use in the flat in Barry. I won't use it. It makes the tea taste horrid.

message 2223: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments The other "never wash" thing we had was the tatty pot. It was a baking tray of lard/ fat/ beef dripping which was only used for roast spuds. After every use it would be allowed to cool and re-solidify. Then used again without ever being washed.

I suppose the idea was that the roasting killed off any bugs. Or something like that.

message 2224: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh frik, that's gross. I'm surprised it didn't writhe with maggots.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I did something like that with the beef dripping when I was first married. Put it in a basin and added to it. One day I got to the jelly bit at the base and saw it was green and furry. Oh dear.

Interesting! Neighbour has bought a new car, won't get woken up tomorrow. I only like Coke with amaretto but it messes with my sleep so a rare treat

message 2227: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Avoid the soapy taste by soaking teapot using soda crystals, scrub and then rinse out with boiling water. Destroys the inner patina mind.

My first mother-in-law used beef dripping for chip frying and I never saw that pan emptied out either. Having said that, that's where I get my craving for butties filled with chips cooked in dripping.

Just read an old story on Fb citing the aspartame content of diet soda as the cause of near death, although I'm not sure whether this is still a permitted additive.

Jim | 21809 comments according to the forecast we might see the sun today. And be blowed if I can remember where I put my sun cream!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, was woken up at 6.20 by the wind battering rain against the window. Admin day, so boring

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning. Filthy wet in Godalming.

Need to do a ton of writing work before the new job starts and I have a lot less time.

Everyone have a good one.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Storm warning on the weather station went off at 4am. Really really windy now, hopefully everything has already blown off the roof in the last storm but there is something flapping!
Might not venture far today...

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Vile weather, and a sad start to the day to read about Ursula Le Guin passing:

This might seem naive, but I'd be very surprised in her case.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yes, very a sad news. Talked about it with the kids today. Four of them got books by her out of the library after our discussion.

Hi all!

Busy but very nice day. I'm really enjoying this class. Lovely bunch they are.

Can't complain about the weather here. Dry, not too cold, no wind.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments It was stormy here last night, but bright and sunny now. Still blustery though.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Dave is out having a curry night with a bunch of mates.

I'm bingeing on Big Bang Theory and Pinot Grigio.

This is a lovely Wednesday evening.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Afternoon. Got to the end of another lot of edits on the forthcoming book. I'll be sick of it when it comes out!

Seriously windy here. The weather, that is.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm off to see Spamalot tonight - taking my friend Alex as her birthday present. Should be fun :)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments When the wind is in SSW it sets up a whistling in one of our bedroom windows, it also makes something else drone. OH moans about the droning, not sure which of them makes more noise. Anyway the wind swung round to the west and although it was stronger it was quieter. It really rained hard here this afternoon. OH took my car to get his new light bulbs and had to drive down the middle of the road to avoid the floods. He’s replaced those energy saving fluorescent coils with LEDs after that one caught fire. Cost him a lots but it’s cheaper than a fire would have.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Either I am hallucinating, or my downstairs neighbour has gone overboard with the garlic this evening!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments When my neighbour across the road in France makes aioli, it makes my eyes water. I’ve got another friend who visits and long after she’s gone you can still smell the garlic.

Swap for a different show and different alcohol, sounds great. I'm contemplating taking a day off, and refusing to do anything but lie on the sofa watching tv. Neighbour thinks I'd be bored and stiffed, I'm not convinced!

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all. Job-related meeting in London today. Hoping for better weather than yesterday.

Last night was a musical and comedy review at the BBITW's school. Weird to watch 17 year olds doing the parrot sketch. Odd how some things from my youth are cool, but most (including me) are not.

One of the highlights was their version of this ...

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning. Gloomy start to the day in the valley, but I'm working for a change, so it's alright! :-)

message 2250: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all! Had a dozen of us milling around outside today because no key-holders arrived to open the office, which is a good start.
