Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Uh oh. Hope you're okay, Kath.

There's a really nasty going around here. One of the neighbours here was down for ten days over Christmas with it.

It's a good vintage : ) I saw Dave Dee when Xanadu hit the charts - they were the supporting act to the Bee Gees! I was terribly disappointed that Dave Dee didn't know how to crack the whip he was wielding on stage. One of the other band members still had a plaster across his cheek as a result of an earlier failed attempt. Which reminds me, I hope Billy's okay.

Afternoon all. Hope you're feeling better by now, Kath. The blood orange Cointreau sounds interesting, Patti - I don't think I've ever come across it. Himself should be receiving his main Chrissie present next week - his armchair of choice. Fortunately furniture re-arranging should be minimal...

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Feeling less worse, shall we say! A hot Vimto helped soothe the throat.

Peter Perrin (peterperrin) | 25 comments Well that was interesting. An hour or so with a photographer and journalist from my local paper about my writing and my debut novel. A thoroughly enjoyable session that will hopefully encourage other older people to write.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Glad to hear you're a bit better, Kath.

Sounds promising, Peter - hope it gives you a boost in sales.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I wonder what the group author median age is.

Glad you've improved Kath. We don't need you ill.
Been meaning to ask. How's your foot behaving?

Dave dragged me to the bank before taking me shopping. Blergh. Hate messing around with accounts n stuff to get an extra measly .05% interest rate. Worth it over time, I suppose.

I bought an enormous box of cookies to take back in carry-on. I'll probably end up plunking it down in the staff room.

message 1808: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Foot had a sudden, almost overnight, improvement. It seems that as plantar fasciitis can come on suddenly, it can go the same way. Still occasionally feels tender but I'm keeping the gel heel supports in so it doesn't disimprove. Thanks for asking.
Today's whateveritis has got no worse. Hope it'll be gone by morning.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Glad your foot is better, do hope your whateveritis has got no worse - another of my neighbours has a similar thing today!! Would be ironic if I became ill just before going back to work.

Had a lovely journey to Burton upon Trent and back, just noticed the washing and ironing need to be done, they aren't on my list. Have 4 things left, 2 I've decided not to do, 2 I really must do, but one I don't want to do!!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Evening all. Well - that's Ivy's funeral done and thankfully, the sun shone brightly for her. Although the circumstances are sad at a funeral - it is lovely to see branches of the family and friends that we don't see very often.
The funeral for the other sister, Nancy, has now been confirmed for the 15th - I've been told that a Mormon funeral is basically the same as a normal funeral - except that it will be a burial. Mormons don't forbid cremations - but would prefer your choice to be for a burial.
The wind here has been atrocious and blew both my Gnomes over - thankfully neither were broken. Lots of twigs and small branches littering the pavements and roads though. That seems to have "blown" over now and it's gone a lot colder with, so the weather persons say, lots more cold to come over the weekend.

Kath - I had a short sharp bout of Plantar Fasciitis about 3 years ago and really wouldn't want to have it again - so you have my every sympathy. When it first manifested - I was told that it could sometimes last for years - but thank goodness mine was only 2 days!

message 1811: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm pleased you had a good day for it, Flo. Also pleased you got to see family and friends.

I'm really pleased your foot seems to be okay, Kath. Would hate to see you have to curtail your fossiking.

Dave's been having some heel pain over the past weeks. I reckon it's cuz he's been wearing worn out shoes. Hoping the new ones will sort him out, but I also got him some good gel inserts, just in case.

I've put a seriously silly amount of seafood in the pasta sauce. Won't keep, must eat, as they say.

Better go dump the pasta in before all the water boils away...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments I'm pleased your day went as well as these things can Flo

message 1813: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's possible to have a good funeral, though many only see the downside.
My plantar fasciitis lasted about six months which seems to be about average, but you limp from morning till night - but moreso in the morning.
I love seafood, Patti. Save us a bit!

message 1814: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Wish I could pass it along to you, Kath. There's another entire meal for two left!

I've offered it to our next door neighbour and she's accepted it, thank goodness. I'd hate for it to go to waste.

There's stupid football on telly. Perfect end to a perfect holiday. :/

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments OH had plantar fasciitis, he’s getting better but he puts his down to the heel height or lack of it on some trainers he bought. He bought decent shoes now (they are so heavy ) and it’s improved. He does his exercises from the chiropractor ctor as well.
Billy is on great form. I’ve put Velcro straps on a tee shirt to keep him from nibbling his stitches as those hard plastic collars in his size are lethal weapons. He could only just get through the door it’s so big. He’s racing round like a looney this afternoon.

My phone said 0C when I woke up but couldn't see any frost anywhere.

Can't say I'm enthusiastic about travelling today. Ho hum.

message 1819: by M.T. (last edited Jan 06, 2018 12:57AM) (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I think you can get inserts for plantar fasciitis - a friend of mine had it and that sorted her. It's epiphany, so it's deccies down today. But grumpy about that as it'll take all sodding day and the other two will leave me to do it even though I was the one who didn't want to put them up. Still, once that's done I have one thank you letter to write and then that's the end of Christmas for another year. You know when you let a bee out of the window and it piles up into the air ... That's how I'll be feeling when the undecorating is done.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Safe travels Patti and Dave.

Wee bit chilly and frosty today. Got my new car yesterday and I love having my independence back. May go to Waitrose now or I may go later, I may even go much, much later - whatever takes my fancy.

Then it's a day at the laptop. Don't you just love a looming deadline.

message 1821: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yes, I have the inserts which I'm still wearing. I don't wear slippers in the house now, either. Full outdoor shoes as they give more support. And the exercises helped.

Morning. No idea what today will bring. Sunshine, at least.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, cold but blue sky, has been raining. Homing kittens at lunch, then getting the car valeted before doing the food shopping and must take down decorations.

Safe journey Patti. Glad you are enjoying your car Kelly.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Horrible wind and rain here again.

Glad you saw your friends and family at least, Flo. And travel safe, Patti.

Peter Perrin (peterperrin) | 25 comments A slight frost her in Swindon. I hate this time of year because it's too cold for me to go fishing.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning. It was frosty here this morning. Neighbour warned us that Tesco car park was lethal. Sheet ice which is very unusual for us. There’s so much salt about it hardly ever freezes.
Billy is ripping through his tee shirts, literally, one a day, split top to bottom. He’s a rough puppy,

message 1827: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Happy New Year everyone

I've been rather busy over the last few weeks since mum came home from hospital. We had carers in four times a day, plus a few appointments and another round of chemo, a slightly different treatment as they couldn't decide if that was what caused the confusion/memory loss. She was improved but not back to herself fully. The second round of this new treatment should have been this week but had to be postponed as she has picked up an infection
and is currently back in hospital on antibiotics.
I'm snowed under at work as we come to our busiest time of the year.

But on a happier note - I'm going to be a great-aunt later this year.

I've popped in here occasionally to keep up with everyone and read about all the ups and downs, joys and sorrows. Please know that I have been thinking about all of you and wishing you all the best. It was good to see a message from Pat as I had wondered if she was all right. Also wondering about Sarah, Kay,Anita and Geoff.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Strangely, it isn't raining (yet).

We were going out to watch the Rugby last night, (Scarlets v Dragons) but it was so cold we cheated and watched the game on the TV instead

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments All the best Janet, it’s been a rough time for some of you. Our baby great nephew is back in hospital. One of the complications of his birth has caused him to have high calcium levels and hes losing weight and vomiting. Poor little soul.
Same hospital got a kicking from the coroner this week after an inquest where the baby died, having had his head sliced while his mother had a Caesarian. He said lessons had not been learned and really criticised them, my family’s experience bears this out.

I wear fitflops indoors and they are great.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Phew, what a day!! Had a lovely time homing the kittens, the fosterer is a cat and book lover, so ended up spending 2 hours there - at one point I had one of her cats practically in my handbag, and kneading my shoulder!! As I was leaving, I noticed some books in bags, and commented on the variance in genres to be told they were for the charity shop, so I asked if I could have one, came back with 8!! Definitely read one, but it was in better condition than my copy, and need to check 2 others. Then my neighbour suggested going to Sainsburys for food, I drove so we got the bloke in their car park to wash and polish it, not quite the valet I emptied the car for!!! Got a reduced butternut squash and lentil gratin for tea, now chilling with a drink, although must finish putting the shopping away and take the washed clothes out of the machine. The only thing on my list I haven't done is fully washed up, I've half done it.

So sorry that your great nephew has more complications Lynne, do hope they sort out his calcium levels soon. Scary what happened to the other family though. Sorry your mum has another infection Janet.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We're in our usual Pret in Heathrow waiting for our gate to be announced.
Decent run up. Traffic was okay. I won a great many games of candy crush.
Got our exit row seats, which is nice.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Evening all. We've got Georgia here tonight for a sleepover and I'd downloaded a David Walliams book to read her as a bedtime story. It's called Ratburger! The story starts with a little girl discovering that her pet hamster has died! What did Georgia have as one of her presents for Christmas??? Yep - you've got it - a hamster! As soon as I saw the words - I tried to get away with swopping to a different book - but she was adamant she wanted Ratburger as they've downloaded the film to watch next week!

Sorry to hear that things haven't been going too well with your Mum's treatment Jay-me - but lovely news about the new Gr.Niece.
......and to Lynne - sorry to hear that baby has had further problems - I hope they can get him back on an even keel soon. How's the vac-therapy going for his Mum's wound?

Have just had an epic sleep! Morning all.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, woke up at 7am, whats the betting that doesn't happen tomorrow? Did try staying in bed cuddling Lucy. Sunny but frosty out, have my fluffy pj's on, have a little bit of housework to do, going to cook something for lunches then a bath etc ready for work.

Hope the story improved Flo!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Baby is really not well. Hes in hospital, He’s got too much calcium so they’ve put him on a drip to flush it and now his salt levels are wrong. He’s covered in a very sore looking rash with hives as well. He’s having a lumbar puncture as they’ve found an infection in his blood. It’s pitiful to see him suffer. In their wisdom they’ve told his mum she won’t have the nurse call to change her dressings any longer, the vac pump has come out but it’s still deep and not closed. She’ll have to get herself to the surgery. “That’s nice” as Mrs Brown would say.
