Home to more cooking!

message 1653: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments We'll probably do what we normally do for new years eve, which is pretty much nothing :-)
Having done the morning milking for thirty consecutive new years days, I've never seen a lot of point in seeing the new year in. I've managed it twice, one of them was by accident because we had a cow calving :-)
At least I avoid having to go to parties to mix with people I normally avoid :-)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I bought way too many crumpets. Three left. Who wants them?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, dry and calm here, quite light. Lucy tried waking me up at 7, relented at 8. Was supposed to go for a walk with a friend who has just cancelled, so contemplating what to do now, would like to finish my book. Going to a friends for new year

I do that too Patti, but as you say, its relaxing. I'll have a crumpet thanks, Lucy is preventing me getting to the kitchen again. Safe journey Will

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Storm Dylan seems to have passed over us. Last night it was all blowin' in the wind.

With husband recovering from eye surgery, and me not wanting to leave him alone at home (much less have him have to come rescue me), I will be skipping the New Year's Eve party I've been going to for years with my folk music group. I was looking forward to it, as we shouldn't be in this part of the country next year (if we are, things have gone very badly wrong). Funny how things unravel.

Have spent several pleasurable evenings watching Firefly with our youngest daughter - she'll be leaving today, and I will miss her.

Life keeps changing things out from under you.

Happy New Year to all! May 2018 be better, somehow.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Firefly is wonderful!

It is indeed.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments I thought of you when reading my book Jim, Horses, Heifers and Hairy Pigs: The Life of a Yorkshire Vet when he was describing the foot and mouth endemic, found it very sad.

Raining here now, slightly regretting offering to go to my friends. I quite enjoyed Firefly. Sorry you have to miss your party Alicia

message 1663: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments yes, 2001 was a nightmare. It was made worse by being casually lied to by government and government employees.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Yes, I can imagine :( he finds it astonishing that we still have livestock farming between that and BSE

You really should put quotation marks around that.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Wouldn't have been as funny.

Dave is cooking our New Years Eve feast!

Thai green curry with a silly amount of prawns. Yum!

Jim | 21809 comments Just had two phone calls this evening
That's my new years day sorted. We're apparently worming Swaledale Hoggs in the morning
At the moment it looks as if we might catch the dry bit :-)

message 1669: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Evening. Had a good day driving around transporting blood and samples and things around the area (I even made it across the river a few times!).
Had a nice curry for tea and I've got cheese and crackers and things for later. Not sure I'll make it though, bit tired at the moment! Think I will probably see 2018 in in bed!!
I'm giving bullet journalling a go and I've got a goals and resolutions page for next year. The quote at the bottom is 'I aim to misbehave'. Need to watch Firefly again next year, watched Serenity the other day though.

Happy New Year everyone.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Happy New Claire!

message 1678: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Happy New Year, lovely groupites!

I made it to midnight, just. Dave woke up when the fireworks went off, so at least we started 2018 with a kiss. He's gone back off to his parents' this morning.
This is certainly not the holiday we wanted to have.

So, is that your version of Hogmanay, Jim?
I look forward to the blog.

What a pisser, Lindsay.

Good reminder to always put a password lock on your kindle when you're travelling with it.

message 1679: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Yep, though i don't know if my kindle had a lock? it was quite old.

Morning everybody.

Happy first day of 2018!

That's rotten, Lindsay - hope they get little joy of it.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning and a Good New Year to you all! Out at noon to watch the Loony Dook - definitely not taking part because I'm not daft :)
I'm shocked that Elder Daughter who is now back down in London is working today - the shops are open. They really don't know how to do Ne'er Day down there!

message 1683: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Morning, and happy new year everyone. Looks pretty much like the last one so far . . .

Sorry about your Kindle Lindsay, but at least it's deregistered, which is something. Maybe it's the chance for a shiny new one, or device with kindle app (don't think I've heard of anyone using a smart watch as a kindle reader though...)

message 1684: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I suggest getting a voyage. I love mine.

It's absolutely chucking it down here.

But I'm full of bacon, so that's nice.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm lying all warm and cosy in bed and the sun is shining through the curtains. Am anticipating bacon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Happy New Year! Ended up staying longer at my friends, as soon as I said I was going, one dog sat on my knee, the other lent against me! Then had a shadow while trying to put shoes on! Feel a bit delicate this morning, going to go for a walk this afternoon and neighbour likes to cook a New Years Day tea, might even eat it at hers. Don't do resolutions but do have an aim, and it is an exciting year for the charity

Sorry about your kindle Lindsay, I love my paperwhite. Enjoy Jim??

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, it’s not raining here! Just taken little dog out as OH is starting the new year with a D&V bug. Feel very sorry for him as we’ve got a lovely piece of sirloin all ready for lunch. Hope I don’t catch his bugs but if I do it will kickstart some weight loss.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Oh no,poor OH. Do hope you don't catch it

message 1689: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've pre-ordered pizza for my dinner. There's forethought.

The sun is shining now. I should go for a walk.

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments hope your OH feels better soon Lynne!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Just back from the Loony Dook - a huge turnout! Maybe I'll do it next year? Aye right! ;)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments No Rosemary you're not a Loony! At least not in that way...

message 1693: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments It's cold in the cabin. No snow here but it's damp and I hate damp weather with a passion. Fog is OK and I love a bit of snow or crisp hoar frost but damp gets in my old bones and makes me feel cold even when it isn't particularly. Other than that all is well today. Our Christmas was a little subdued as Colin's older brother passed away but he is doing OK or at least as well as might be expected. The funeral is on Friday. My sister came to visit on Saturday and I opened a bottle of champers but as Ollie was worried about the weather they didn't stay long and so I ended up finishing it myself. HIC! No problem there. I hope 2018 is a good year for everyone.

message 1697: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Happy New Year to one and all.

I am filled with purpose, determination and optimism . . . wonder how long it will last!

Had a seafood feast with the in-laws last night and watched the Jools Holland Hootenany. In-laws stayed overnight and it was 2am by the time we finished the washing up and collapsed into bed.

Was blowing a hoolie last night as well. Our 3 exceptionally annoyed cats were on lockdown but perked up when the seafood came out.

Back to work tomorrow. On the bright side my new car should be ready to collect. I've been waiting 3 months. Will be happy to have my independence back. Imagine the joy of jumping in the car and popping to Waitrose whenever you feel like it.

Glorious sunshine today but a wee bit nippy.

message 1698: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Sorry for my foreigner's lack of knowledge but what is a "Loony Dook"?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Running into the sea en masse! Usually either on Boxing Day or New Year's Day. Biggest one is at South Queensferry along the coast from here, it's quite organised and I think ticketed, whereas our one is just whoever turns up. Considered bad form to wear a wetsuit, but fancy dress is OK :)

message 1700: by Desley (Cat fosterer) (last edited Jan 01, 2018 07:57AM) (new)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Got back from my walk at the right time, rain is quite heavy. Even bumped into a colleague. Now starting my first book of the year, sat with the foster cats while my neighbour cooks tea

Enjoy the new car Kelly, Lucy has just asked to go out till she saw the wind and rain. Sorry about Colin's brother Lisa
