Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm so pleased you were able to spend Christmas with your family, Claire.

Good morning!

I'm liking this sleeping in until 7 stuff!

Tim | 8539 comments Morning. Snow on the ground, but don't blink or you'll miss it!

#ChaosOnTheRoadsProbably

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, slept but still tired. Housework, a walk, TV and reading today. Had a proper multitasking experience last night, was laid on the floor with the foster cats, my left hand was behind me so Chanel could eat off it, my right hand was in front of me so Coco could eat off it, and I was reading my kindle! Cold but dry here

My neighbour has just said the snow down south has caused issues on the motorway Tim. Glad you are catching up on sleep Patti. Glad you and Narla had a good Christmas Claire

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each! It's pretty wet and mucky here in Daggy Bottom. Fortunately I'm not going anywhere. Sorting out the post-Christmas chaos today in advance of daughter and family arriving tomorrow.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Brilliant sunshine here.

We've made a plan for the day.
Breakfast.
Returning a gift. Yep, you guessed it. Clothes.
A brisk walk.
Picking up mezze type food for dinner.
Perhaps another walk if it's not too windy on the shore.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments It's claggy rain here again which is probably snow elsewhere. We are driving to Scotland tomorrow but glad the McParents have moved from Camarthan where I gather it has snowed. First, time to relax. this is our day at home. Midget see if I can score wrapping etc for next year or might sit round on my arse. :-)

Still feeling raw after visiting Mum and Dad's. McParents are lovely they just live a long way away and I don't feel very jolly.

Cheers

MTM

It's not possible to get a flight up, Mary?

Not unless we buy a couple of extra seats for the presents. We can get lots of food they can't down here so we take a massive Waitrose parcel up there and go home with a huge stock of square sausage, tattie scones and scotch pies.

Also airport is a couple of hours drive from them so its a long schlepp to pick us up in a very small car. And by the time we've parked at Stansted and footered about the other end there's nothing in it: 4 hours on the plane with all the tiny bottles and baggage allowance shite versus 4 and a half in the car with the ability to bring wine brandy butter and that; not to mention meaningful quantities of perfume and shampoo! Mwahhahaaargh. There's just no pleasing me.

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments actually ... I think we have to go to lhr to get a flight which is 2-3 hours south from us anyway. So we may as well go north ...

we're exactly the same, by the time you've driven to an airport and then got from the other airport to where you're going, you might as well just drive.
Somebody wanted me in London when there was a meeting on, but there was serious rail disruption because of weather and they announced that they'd pay the air fare
I just pointed out to them that I couldn't get to an airport either

message 1517: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

No extra snow here aand the sun is shining again! My intention is to finish clearing out the guest room so Sis and BIL have somewhere to lay their heads over the new year and then finish the pre-Xmas ironing pile. (Yes, I know, but like Lynne I really hate seeing creases walking around on himself.)

Have a good journey, Mary - if you're on the A82 give us a wave. I
didn't do Xmas pud etc this year - clootie dumpling and whisky butter is really yum.

Peter Perrin (peterperrin) | 25 comments Don't normally get Snow here in Swindon, England. But just had the second lot of the winter.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning. Good job you didn’t decide to fly, although the logistics of getting to and frim the airports and the additional security times and regulations for some of us is more difficult than the actual journey. I’ve just heard Stansted is closed again for the snow. Colder here but dry apartment from the odd hail storm.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Glad to hear your apartment is dry Lynne!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments What??? Mary has midgets - I have an apartment, thank you spellchecker,

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Had to swap things round, so been for a walk, dropped my neighbours lodger off and checked for bargains in the local co-op. Now really need to tackle the washing up - after lunch. Still lots of white hills and the reservoir we walked round was one of the fullest I've ever seen

Can't believe Stansted is closed

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We've had a lovely afternoon. Wandered around St Fagan's for a couple of hours. Cold but bright blue sky. Was nice stopping in the buildings where they had fires burning. Part of the castle was open this time, which was nice.
Then unsuccessfully shopped for shoes for Dave. Looks like we'll have to go into Cardiff soon.

My toes are starting to thaw, yay!
I was considering dipping them into my cup of tea.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Hmm, not got very far with the housework, no inclination due to this pain everytime I stretch, Lucy isn't helping by keep sitting on my knee!

We saw snow on the tops of the valleys in the distance today.

Yes, I asked Dave and they're really called 'the tops of the valleys'.

Go figure.

I wish there were internal flights out of Cardiff. The airport is ten minutes-ish from our flat.

If we want to fly from here to London, we have to fly via Amsterdam.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Thanks again everyone for the kind words. Our Georgia came down this morning and seeing her open her Christmas presents - albeit a little late - was well worth the wait and cheered us up immensely. We'd bought her a double doll's buggy and twin baby dolls to put in it. Georgia immediately christened them Dennis and Flower!!!
So here's to 2018 and hoping that things get better.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Just watched the news and you'd think think all of the U.K. is snowbound. Sheesh.

Loved the interview with the exasperated Canadian who had been stuck on some motorway for hours. Could just see her thinking, 'get outa my way, you hosers! I'll show you how it's done!'

message 1533: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Merry belated Christmas to all - been wining, dining and making jolly!

Today was spent going to the other side of the island - seriously, you need a passport and visa to get there, eh.

The island is only 9 miles by 5 but we firmly stick to our traditions of being wary once we're outside our own parish. I mean who on earth would drive 25 minutes to go to a restaurant at the other side of the island - ridiculous amount of time! We made the most of our road trip and visited 3 lots of friends and had a meal with each!

Am off in between Christmas and New Year so am in that vague what day is it post-Christmas fog.

Hope you all had a lovely time.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Twitter is calling these days Betwixtmas Kelly - I quite like that :)

We've had a fairly subdued Christmas given the circumstances. Drove mum home yesterday, it was like a winter wonderland over the top of Soutra, so beautiful in the snow. None here at all though.
Can't believe the country grinds to a halt over 5cm of snow. And it's the top item on the news!!

My sympathies to you Flo, although I am glad that the wee one is bringing you some joy. We have to find our comfort where we can x

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Sympathies to Flo, who needs them, I think

Rosemary, when I lived in Bacup the whole village was regularly cut off by snow for a couple of days at a time. The inability of the South to cope with a light dusting makes me smile.

I didn't know you used to live in Bacup, only about 6 miles from me, yet we don't get as much snow!

message 1537: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Well Bacup is a LOT higher than Rochdale, Desley, isn't it? People living in Manchester used to think I was daft when i said I cpouldn't get to work because of snow/

Must be, even though it doesn't seem like it when I drive there

message 1539: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments My sisinlaw informs me all the roads round their place have been closed since Christmas Day and are expected to remain so for at least another day. That means it's so bad, they're not even sending out the plows.
It's better down round my mom's place. Not nearly as much snow.
-17 but the roads are open.

message 1540: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Just checked the forecast. Going down to -22 overnight.

message 1541: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments We have no snow. A14 at Kettering 50 miles away is under 10cm and Stansted, 30 miles away was closed twice today. We had another four hours of heavy snow and ... zero sat. I wish it would snow properly or sod off! :-) Except not right now because we have to drive 400 miles tomorrow.

message 1542: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Safe journey, Mary. Be sure to check in when you can.
Will you be staying in Scotland for Hogmanay?

I had a bad dream and have given up on going back to sleep. :(

message 1543: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. I've been offline for the holidays, but hope you all had a good Christmas/Yule/Saturnalia.

message 1544: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments The days between Christmas and New Year never really figured. If anything they're always busier because we're catching up with stuff that you never got done because you tried to get two quiet days for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

message 1545: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We should be hibernating.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, slept through again but didn't want to get up, and the cats were really good. Chest is really sore and I've flared my sciatica up. Really need to finish the housework, the rescues garage gave us £100 for Christmas which we are putting towards our Buy a Brick scheme, so I'm popping down to give him his certificate, and then need to fill his details in 20 times in our register! Then going to a friends for takeaway and a catch up. Everything is white and sparkly

Wow, that is crazy Patti. Do hope you have a safe journey MT. Fully agree Jim, I like Patti's idea

message 1547: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning all. We're going to see the new Star Wars film later today.

Crisp and icy at the moment, so not making an early start. Everyone keep warm and well

message 1548: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Morning all. 9:30, so I'm getting earlier! Frosty out, but the sun is shining and the sky is blue, so I expect it'll thaw before too long.

I must to my cornflakes, then to the computer for the daily toil!

message 1549: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Morning, the sun has got his hat on but it's chilly brrrrr.

A day in the study for me - sorting out all the stuff I haven't bothered with for weeks and weeks.

May have another coffee before I venture forth.

message 1550: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

Snow is forecast for tomorrow here, so Sis and BIL are travelling today - they've agreed to accept the housework state as they find it!

Need to do a large grocery shop and then construct tonight's casserole. Serves me right for resting on my laurels over Christmas.
