Finished
by Lindy WestGreat book by such a strong female voice. Got laughs and I even teared up a bit.

I finished an interesting look at a modern archeological discovery, The Lost City of the Monkey God: A True Story by Douglas Preston. This is an overall look at many aspects of such a find, from the legend that started the search to disease history.

Former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans recently wrote Incorrigible Optimist: A Political Memoir about Aussie and international politics and diplomacy since his student days in the 60s. Enjoyable, informative, and still optimistic!

After hearing so many International Women's Day references to Mary Wollstonecraft, I decided I should find and read A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She sure was a firebrand!

Thanks, Chrissie, five stars from me too.
I have completed Benediction by Kent Haruf. Both the book and that now I have read all of the author's books, no other ones now being left, makes me sad.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This book brought tears to my eyes.
Patty,Interesting that you mention Mary. I went to high school with one of Mary Shelley’s descendents--Wollstonecraft (or is it Croft?) was her middle name I think. She was incredibly nice but reserved, but I was a sulky, broodish teenager so that was lost on me then. The final day of the semester we watched the Kenneth Branagh version of Frankenstein and basically goofed off.
Not reading anything currently, but David Halberstam, Tom Perrota, and Ben Metcalf lined up for me when I get around to them.

Nice, that I led you to one that you loved too. If you had started with the other you might have not gone further.
Diane, another thing I saw was that your favorite of Kent Haruf's books is the same as mine--The Tie That Binds! You wrote that somewhere and I happened to see it.
I finished reading In the Woods by Tana French. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's quirky, fun and so unreliable. I will be continuing with the series. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

How interesting, John! I was ignorant enough to know the name only as a harbour suburb of Sydney.
As it turns out, according to Wikipedia, it was named after Edward, who migrated to Australia to escape his Aunt Mary's notoriety! She was pretty outspoken, after all.
No wonder it's already a bestseller! Loved The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn.

Finished Flight Without End by Joseph Roth 3*I would have rated the book also higher but the end arrived too fast and it has also an open ending, something I don't like a lot. But I liked Roth's prose and descriptions, and the topic of the book: a man that doesn't feel at home anywhere so he moves from one country to another looking for something he will never find because not even him did know what he was looking for.

I did end up liking Liza of Lambeth by W. Somerset Maugham, although it took me a while to get puled in.My review. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished reading Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin. An intense, mysterious novel. I liked it but can't say I understood it completely.

I have completed Green Hills of Africa by Ernest Hemingway. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A short, free book I enjoyed is Mark Colvin's history of his interesting family, Fighting Blood: An Exotic Family History.
