PattyMacDotComma Getting Tyson is exactly what the good guys are trying so hard to do with such little luck in this UK thriller by P.K. Davies. Big Dave Tyson has zero redeeming features!

Finished yesterday A Thousand Ships, our Group Read of this month.
Interesting. We live since kids with the Troy War, but it is not so common - more and more I have to admit though, to see it from the female point of view.
High time we think also from this perspective

PattyMacDotComma I didn't know Daphne du Maurier wrote this kind of entertaining, historical romance. Frenchman's Creek is a light, atmospheric bodice-ripper in which no bodices are seen to be ripped.

Pirates, lords and ladies, Cornwall!

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments I read Nothing Holds Back the Night by Delphine de Vigan, translated from the French by George Miller. It's a gripping blend of fiction, memoir, and biography. The author explores her mother's childhood and adult life to try to understand the cause of her suicide. Intense and well-executed.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments Read Territory of Light by Yūko Tsushima, translated from the Japanese by Geraldine Harcourt.
It's about a single mother struggling to raise her three-year-old daughter while coping with her estranged husband and the demands of her employment. I was impressed with the use of light imagery. Other than that, I thought the novel was disappointing. It just wasn't for me.

Tweedledum (tweedledum) | 2166 comments Visited the White Rose bookshop yesterday in Thirsk and came away with The Book Collectors of Daraya and Thirteen Lessons that Saved Thirteen Lives: The Thai Cave Rescue because they both shouted at me … you have to read me… halfway through both of them! Highly recommended.

PattyMacDotComma A road trip to track down an unknown father and perform at an international comedy festival. What could possibly go wrong? The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman by Julietta Henderson follows twelve-year-old Norman, his mother, and an old codger to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Don't trust me - many readers just loved this one!

PattyMacDotComma Malala Yousafzai isa another inspiring Little People BIG DREAMS book from Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. The Taliban tried to assassinate Malala, but she recovered and went on to become the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Canadian Jen Finished Tears of Amber by Sofía Segovia . This is a translation of 2 German families in Germany during WW2. A different perspective of the war. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

PattyMacDotComma Carry: A Memoir of Survival on Stolen Land, by Métis author Toni Jensen, is a collection of powerful essays and stories about dispossession, trafficking, gun violence and general abuse of and disregard for the First Nations peoples of the Americas.

Jensen has had quite a life and shares it, warts and all.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments I finished a couple of books lately:

A Quiet Revolution: The Veil's Resurgence, from the Middle East to America by Leila Ahmed.
A well-documented research study of the veil's resurgence and the increasingly activist role of Muslim American women.
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Patience Stone by Atiq Rahimi; translated from the French by Polly McLean.
A compelling novella that gives voice to the plight of women in Afghanistan under the Taliban.
