suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh joy?!! - they may be well known but either Chart gives me a song about a much older partner contemplating having sex with a minor?!! I think I might pass on this one ;oO

EDIT : Ahhh, the American one is more due to an association to a Film and there's nothing inappropriate in the Lyrics - so I'll go with that one ;o>

SussexWelsh | 7448 comments Can we have "official" links to the two lists (US/UK), so that we are all selecting from the same hymn sheet(s)?

message 304: by KJS (new)

KJS | 5809 comments This one gives results for the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada and Germany! all on one page and plays snippets of the songs.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments I was going to suggest having another round of No. 1 on your sweet sixteenth birthday but mine would be ABBA - Fernando. Bleurgh!

Still, it's an idea?

message 307: by Spacepig (new)

Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments I like the link that KJS posted, it gives us a choice of up to 5 songs, I am all for using that and letting us choose which one we want.

As for Brassy's sweet 16 idea, I just used the link to check mine. When is the next detest round?

Lez | 7490 comments Oh dear, For my 16th I’ve got ‘Que Sera Sera’ or (gulp) ‘Pat Boone - ‘My Prayer’. I might cheat and choose a different day - there are 3 I’ve always liked!
KJS ‘s doesn’t go back far enough.

message 309: by Tim (new)

Tim Franklin | 10949 comments For my 16th there's a choice of Bee Gees 'Tragedy', Gloria Gaynor 'I Will Survive', Chic 'Le Freak', Blondie 'Heart Of Glass', or Rod Stewart 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy'. Oh well, four out of five isn't bad!

There was a bandstand in Sheffield’s pedestrianised area and there was music every Saturday. One week there was a large steel (of course) band and they played an absolutely amazing version of Heart of Glass. Liked it ever since.

I'm probably just being a bit dense but how does it work? I know it says to put the Date in but I can't work out where on the Page to do it?

Suzy, you replace 1 Jan 46 with your date.

message 314: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Okay, well I'm not sure why this is but I don't have a 1 Jan 46 on the Page that has come up and there is nothing clickable on the Page except for the Menu on the Toolbar to other Pages and the ability to Tweet or share it on Facebook?

Maybe it is a Page with functions that work on a different Browser or Device? ;oO

message 315: by KJS (last edited Mar 26, 2019 09:40AM) (new)

KJS | 5809 comments Suzy - It's above that in a picture of a jukebox or go to the home page and click on birthday no.1.

message 316: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sorry, Poppet, there is no Date showing and there is nowhere to input one either. I don't understand it because it looks like a full website Page has downloaded but I'm just not seeing what you are seeing?

This is SO weird?! - I wonder why my Page is different? I just have a Banner Heading over the Juke Box that says ... Birthday No.1 - What was the No.1 song on the day you were born? Enter your date of birth and listen to it!" ... but there is nowhere to click or to type anything in and hovering over it with my Cursor does nothing either?

If someone has got a spare minute, would they kindly look up 08/06/1968 for me and let me know what my five options are? All I have for the UK and the US is a choice between 'Young Girl' and 'Mrs Robinson' so far - and 'Young Girl' has unfortunately got some rather dubious Lyrics in it that I'm not particularly keen on ;oO

message 317: by Brass Neck (last edited Mar 26, 2019 10:21AM) (new)

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Apart from the 'love across the generations' themed classics one of which Canada also had;
Australia had This Guy's In Love With You - Herb Alpert
Germany had Delilah - Tom Jones

PS if you're seeing the jukebox with the date 1 Jan 1946 you should be able to move your cursor on to the 1 and tap whereupon a choice of 1-31 opens up so you scroll and select then move on to the month and year likewise.

message 318: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh, bless you, Mr B ... x ... thank you! ;o>

The Jukebox is completely blank - I've tried changing the Page Setting on 'Compatibility View' but all it did was just make the Page go all weird.

I guess I'll have no choice but to give up on I.E. and Windows 7 soon because I've just recently discovered that it now doesn't like the Home Page of eBay and always crashes within barely a minute of me trying to access it ... and I'm guessing that this is something similar that is happening with this too ... GRRR!!!

Mines not too bad, in the UK Adamski & Seal's was at No1 for 4 weeks with the reworked Killer, when i turned 16.

The others were: US & New Zealand: Madonna - Vogue; Canada: Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U & in Germany.... Matthias Reim - Verdammt, Ich Lieb' Dich....no idea & i don't like any of 'em! Can't stand Mad Donna or that soppy Connor song!

Just had a look at what Canada's No1 was during my birthday...Marvin Hamlisch - The Entertainer...i like that one! :)

Brass Neck | 3979 comments If no one objects that I'm putting in 2 themes so close together;

212 - 'Barbed wire Jockeys' - songs sung in a falsetto voice (doesn't have to be male, just a high register for at least one line) - Brass Neck
213 - Tickle Those Ivories - songs that feature a piano - Helen
214 - More cowbell! Any track which features afore said percussive instrument. Anyone not sure about what a cowbell sounds like, listen to the beginning of Forbidden Lovers by Be Bop Deluxe - it's that stunted tonk-tonk sound - Fishy Jim
215 - Wildcard Round 7
216 - Murder Ballads - Tim
217 - Posthumous releases (songs only released after the artist died, preferably studio material not remixes, do-overs, faux-duets or live stuff) - Brass Neck
218 - Anything with a watery title, e.g. Sea, River, Stream, Rain, Bath, Shower .... you get the idea
219 - The One Great Track From A Duff Album - tech
220 - 'Ace music vids' - Pick a song featuring it's official music vid that you like (must be the vid the band/artist produced for the song) - theDuke
221 - No. 1 the day you were born - Spacepig
222 - No. 1 on the day you turned sweet sixteen - Brass Neck

NB - WE don't have to like the song, it's about whether other posters will and if your b'day throws up some naff choices so be it?

I stopped using IE11 (the last version introduced in 2013, and although is still supported by MS for now, it is by far the worse ISP of all now! I gave up on it, after getting fed up with it freezing up all the time, if i had more then 2 tabs open, so now use the latest version of Firefox. Much much better. Costs nothing to download, and is just as easy to use. Only minor layout differences, so you could download that Suzy.

As far as i know, mainsteam support for W7 stopped in 2015, but extended support (whatever that is?!) will end on Jan 14th 2020, so you still got a wee bit time left yet...before you'll need to upgrade to crappy W10! :)

You know how easy-going I am (unless severely provoked) so just a high voice somewhere in the song'll do - Jimmy Somerville, that Walking In The Air lad and Tiny Tim qualify in spades but Andy Bell's OK. Just use your judgement. Some links to help;

I thought it was Peter Auty who originally sang that theme song to The Snowman in 1983? Aled Jones performed it 2 years later, because Auty was then 15 and his er...unmentionables had dropped!

Val H. | 22141 comments Rounds 1 - 8 (part therof) are on Page 1

Here is an update:

ROUND 8

154. Songs by all-girl bands (all-vocalist, non-instrumentalist groups NOT allowed, only proper bands - though the lead singer doesn't have to play an instrument) - James Warner
155. Dubwise, Version Galore! - a version/dub/remix of a tune, all genres (not a re-recording or a cover!) - tech
156. Weapons Of War - Travel Fan
157. Song titles consisting of just one word - Val
158. Songs with long titles (entirely arbitrary minimum of 7 words; words in brackets are OK but not references to featured artists or mixes) - Brass Neck
159. Songs with periods of time or times of day in the title: the words hour(s), minute(s) etc. or noon, midnight, o'clock and so on - Lez
160. The Shadow Knows: songs with the word 'Shadow' or 'Shadows' or 'Shade' in the title, or lyrics - Grimmy
161. Brexit, Baby! - songs by bands or singers from countries which are members of the EU. UK artists are excluded - Tim
162. Music from computer/video games - Helen
163. Sprog Rock! - songs by artists with famous musical parentage. (i.e. Willow Smith, Cruz Beckham, Miley Cyrus etc ...Yes, Rufus too) - Sera69
164. "What the earth are they on about?!" - Songs with nonsensical lyrics...or in other words....total gibberish! - the odd legible word or phrase is okay, but must be mainly comprised of nonsense lyrics, that no one can understand! - the Duke
*Still researching of how many there are...so might change this if there's not enough to go around*

166. Songs about Irishmen - name must be mentioned in the song - easytiger

169. Compass Points - Title must contain one (or more) of: North/South/East/West - SussexWelsh
170. Wildcard Round 4 - Any song you like, specifically new or seldom heard songs (originally an idea by Val)

ROUND NINE
171. 'The Nurse With Wound List'. On the first two Nurse albums appeared this list of artists, said to have been influences on the group (as it was in the beginning). Mr Stapleton later claimed some didn't even exist, but research seems to suggest all in fact, did. http://nwwlist.org is where to go; click on 'artists' then on 'named' which contains all those on the list. The albums included are merely suggested. You don't have to stick with them; anything by that artist is ok. Nothing from the 'Related' or 'More' sections please. There should be plenty of bands known to all but the most sheltered of souls! You will get kudos points for the weirder side of things though. - Tim
172. Songs about getting married - Val (pipe down all you cynics! I want to see lots of brides, rings, bells, aisles, chapels, weddings, etc)
173. Songs with sound effects in them (thunder claps, breaking glass, cars revving up, roaring crowds, dogs barking etc. etc.) - KJS
174. It's not big and it's not clever, but the tunes are good. Songs with expletives in the lyrics (not necessarily in the title). It can be a single utterance or a blue tirade (though, with one glorious exception, I tend towards the one-off). - Fishy Jim
175. Songs with US state names in the title - let's hear your Californias, Hawaiis, Idahos etc. - Rob
176. Sample Example - Tracks that sample other songs - Helen
177. 'One Album Wonders - Round 2' - Same rules as before, but noms can be selected from albums released upto 5 years ago. Any one off solo albums produced by now defunct Artists/Bands - EP's, singles, Live albums, Comps also produced by the artist/band are irrelevant, but noms must come from the sole album itself. - theDuke
178. Toys, general or specified, in the title or artist's name - Brass Neck
179. 'Say I'm Your No.1' - your favourite song which topped the nation's (BBC, of course) charts. simple as.......- tech
180. 180. Tell me sweet little lies. (Untruths) in the title or lyrics - Jemma
181. Songs with U.S. towns in the title - TheFoe
182. Songs whose lyrics mention other musicians by name - KJS

192. Blow Yer Own Trumpety - the genre of music that the act is playing must be reflected in the title of the song/piece or in the name of the act - nominated by tech
193. Golden Oldies - 1960 to 1990 - nominated by Jemma
194. The Unexplained - songs about U.F.O.s, strange happenings, disappearances etc - nominated by TheFoe

If you live in Nowheresville, a band formed in a town/city you go to regularly, and within a reasonable driving distance, say 30 minutes in the UK. Anyone in say the Scottish highlands or rural Ireland can have more leeway on that. Say where they're from in your nom post) - Tim
208. 'Sing a song song' - Songs that feature the word 'song' in the title - theDuke
209. It's My Party - any song with the word PARTY in the title - Val
210. Nobody’s Perfect’ - a song you hate from a band/singer/act you love. - Lez
