So that writes off my entire collection for starters then!

Bugger! I had a nom lined up for that one! I usually have to rush around to find something on the week a theme goes live, cos I keep forgetting to do it before! You could just tweak it Suzy, maybe opened it up to allow, cakes, puds, desserts and whatever else there is....ye?

I'm disappointed Suzy. I had a shortlist of four tracks that qualified for your theme! I like it when we have to do a bit of work to find something appropriate.

Just seen your response Suzy.
It's your choice of course..but I can assure you Suzy, that no one will think any less of you, should you not be able to participate on your own nom...it really makes no difference..as the rest of us will still play it out regardless. So, if I may..since I and couple of others have already found a nom for your theme..i'd like to reinstate it on your behalf Suzy...& we can leave your name off it, if you prefer..so you don't feel pressured into partaking. Your theme is most welcome, as is you, whenever you wish to join in, my darling! Nobody is forced to play..some come and go as they please, & everybody accepts that as a given, as we all know..real life takes precedence over everything else and this is just a little music game after all!
Many of us have health issues that gets in way of enjoying life sometimes...I have my problems as you have and so do a few others. So there's absolutely no need to feel awkward or guilty, if you can't join in sometimes...I promise you..no one will mind, honestly! :-)
So just to bring forward...I shall leave Suzy's name off this theme for the time being...

Should be plenty of choice for this one. I would still like to do non album singles as a theme but I think it would get super complicated!

i was thinking, initially and very briefly, that your new theme was a little under-complicated - i read it as 'songs that feature a musical instrument' in my haste. that would be a beezer of a round! :)

Songs that don't feature a musical instrument could be even better. ;-)

I’ve got one from the lovely Rufus which would fit!

No, no and no again.
Unless of course it's a well performed acapella.
Although I remember reading about an album many years ago called "Gorillas in the Mix" that sounds like it might have been interesting. Always meant to look it up.

With your theme Brass, could you have Duran Duran for sake of arguement? Not that I plan to nominate anything by them. Also really struggling with Jemma's theme, I've done a thorough research and come up with squat. :-(

Plenty of really famous ones, Duke - about 20 you’ll have heard of on Wiki😀

Still trying to find something for the next round..and Jemmas!

Would it be clearer if yours stated that you only want untruths; there are songs with lie/lying in the title which are just positional eg Love Lies Bleeding?

Ooh, you are naughty. But yes, it would be v interesting. It would also open up the whole debate of 'what is a musical instrument?' which would be a nightmare! ;-)

Well, perhaps you wouldn't ban conventional instruments entirely, but they'd have to be very much in a supporting role to stuff that isn't. :-) That would include samples from records, so eg, any DJ Shadow track made up entirely from samples would be eligible. Same with a group like Sleaford Mods, whose music is created on a laptop.

Thanks Jemma, didn't look up a list as thought it would have all the ones I'd already seen, I was wrong.
Thanks Brass too.

the genre of music that the act is playing must be reflected in the title of the song/piece or in the name of the act!
i.e., zap pow's 'this is reggae music' would be permissible, but throbbing gristle's '20 jazz funk greats' would not (it's not really jazz funk!) - the blues band would be permissible, but the pop group would not! (they're not really a pop group!) okeedokee?

Don't forget The Flying Pickets and Bobby McFerrin (who I actually quite like).

So no Orchestral Manoeuvres then? ;-)

I actually like Manhattan Transfer. Another group on which Lez & I disagree. I'm not especially keen on their a cappella stuff, though.

Val asked the same question - The artist(s) must be namechecked in the lyrics e.g. All The Young Dudes by Mott The Hoople names Beatles,Stones and T. Rex...Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) by Scritti Politti actually names Aretha Franklin in the lyrics.

Maybe put the name at the top. It might get a bit messy with something like Creeque Alley by The Mamas & the Papas if the named musicians are put in brackets after the nominated track on the actual list.
