That is okay, Paakhi. It is always nice to get a recommendation, especially for such a lovely book. I really should do a re-read one of these days.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Just finished One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf. Her style is similar to Jodi Picuolt's. I liked it but I didn't love it.

I'm starting today The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls for my August Book Club meeting.

message 257: by James (new)

James D | 1 comments I'm reading The Fault in Our Pants A Parody of "The Fault in Our Stars" by Steve Lookner after reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

because I guess I wanted to read two books in a row about cancer.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Welcome James!

message 259: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Welcome James. I get a chuckle from the title of the parody. I almost want to read it just because of it.

message 260: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Coming in late on the Fried Green Tomatoes discussion. 5 stars for both book and movie. Ta-Wamda, oh yeah!

message 261: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I've kind of gotten hooked on Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series. The first was The Templar Legacy and now I'm reading The Alexandria Link. Getting some interesting historical fiction in these suspenseful novels.

message 262: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Nice to know Debra. Being a James Rollins fan I have eyed cotton Malone even more since Malone and Rollins Grayson Pierce face off in Face Off. Sorry couldn't find link. Steve Barry gets mixed reviews sometimes but I'm gonna check this series out

message 263: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments FaceOff here's the little hiding so and so of a link hiding on me

message 264: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I finished reading Moon Called for this months group themed read and I loved it. I also finished listening to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I am still listening (slowly) to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and reading MaddAddam which is annoying me. Just started Inferno for the monthly challenge and I'm liking it a lot.

message 265: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I started Snowblind for the Sai King Recommends group. I'm a little late to the party.

message 266: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Not as late as me Janice. I'm going to be reading it after Inferno.

message 267: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished Inferno recently and enjoyed it. Snowblind, after 2 chapters, is promising to be good!

message 268: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments That's good to hear about Snowblind. I'm enjoying Inferno too - I think I'll be finished in no time (hopefully!).

message 269: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I just started A Thousand Splendid Suns for the group read.

message 271: by Travis (last edited Aug 13, 2014 07:09PM) (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Finished Drizzt #7 The Legacy these books I cannot read back to back anymore. There is such a cookie cutter style I have to space things out or they all seem the same. As if I needed another lengthy series to start I started The Eye of the World

message 272: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I have The Eye of the World on my wishlist. You could count that towards the Sept group read since the poll shows "first in a series" as the theme.

message 273: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Nice. I had not looked at next months theme yet.

message 274: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm reading A Prayer for Owen Meany and listening to The Goldfinch, both for the chunkster challenge.

That looks REALLY good, Travis. I'm going to have to read that. But THEN. I'd have to read every series from every author represented in it. Yep. I can see that happening!

The Cotton Malone series is very controversial so far. I could see how some very religious folks might not like it. But I've found the history and speculation very intriguing.

message 276: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I just started reading The Year's Best Dark Fantasy & Horror, 2014 Edition. Now do I skip straight to the Neil Gaiman story or be patient and work my way through from start to finish!?!?

message 277: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Sarah wrote: "I just started reading The Year's Best Dark Fantasy & Horror, 2014 Edition. Now do I skip straight to the Neil Gaiman story or be patient and work my way through from start to finis..."

LOL! That's a good question. Will you savour the stories ahead, or will you be rushing them to get the Neil's story. If the latter, you'd better read Neil's first so you can relax and read the rest at leisure.

message 278: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Saving the one your looking forward to for last is dangerous and sometimes can only lead to disappointment. Especially if there are better stories along the way better than Gaimans in this case.

message 279: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments decisions, decisions. I think if I start skipping about I might loose track of which ones I've read. So I think I'll start at the beginning. Gaiman's is about 30% in.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I am starting The Miniaturist which I only bought a couple of days ago but fast-tracked to the top of my TBR pile.

I am also about 110 pages into The Plantagenets which is really good so far. I am learning quite a bit from it too, which is always nice.

You're welcome Sheila! I hope you enjoy it too when you get to it.

message 284: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments I'm currently reading 11/22/63 for my chunkster challenge.

I've also just started A Fall of Marigolds. It is beautiful so far! I think I'll use it for a short link in my chunkster challenge and I'm also using it for a historical fiction challenge in another group.

message 285: by Cherie (last edited Aug 15, 2014 07:45PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished The Grammarian (still working on the review), Second Star To The Right and Scarlet.
I also finished Chocolat and I am going to start the 2nd bookThe Girl with No Shadow for my Chunkster challenge.
I started a Next Generation Star Trek book called Reunion that I picked up at a library sale and I am almost 75% done listening to A Death in the Small Hours a Charles Lenox mystery.

message 286: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Finished yesterday The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls. It was just ok to me. I like it but I don't think it is nothing impressive. I liked her other 2 books much better. I can see in this novel how many characters where inspired in members of her family that appear in her memories.

I'll start today The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. I have been looking for this one for a long time.

message 288: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. That wasn't easy. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I think I've done enough reading for today. Tomorrow I'll start something lighter, The White Nile Diaries

message 289: by Ann (new)

Ann (ann7258) | 334 comments I just finished Where'd You Go, Bernadette, which I ADORED, and am now moving on to Eleanor & Park

message 292: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I have so many books started I've lost track of where I am. Work is exhausting me, I've taken a 3 day vacation to vist my grandson, and regroup. When I get to this point, I just pick up something easy like the latest JD Robb book and flip between that and Candy Crush. That's about all my brain can handle at the moment.

message 293: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Enjoy the downtime and hopefully it helps. :)

message 294: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Zamorano (memandyme) I just finished Girl with the Pearl Earring. Pretty good book, was about a 4 hour read. I am going through books really fast. I might need to start hitting up thrift stores again lol.

Mandy, I wish I could send you some review books. I am too busy to find reading time.

message 297: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I finished Inferno for this months challenge read. I really liked it. I was going to start Snowblind for another group read but I can't bring myself to open the book. So, I started reading Storm Front instead.

Sarah, are you still going to be reading Snow Blind for the group read? If not, I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a buddy read of it at some point? I bought it a few weeks ago and it's currently sitting on my TBR pile. I was thinking it might be fun to read it in October (so looking ahead a bit) so it will be near Halloween. What do you think?

message 299: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Not sure Lisa. The reason I can't bring myself to open it right now is more that it doesn't enthuse me. I'm not looking at it thinking "Wow! I can't wait to read this!". I can't guarantee I'll feel any different come October either - I think it might be one of those that returns to the library unread! Thanks for asking though! I'd so love to do a scary , spooky read though around Halloween.

message 300: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Sarah, if you are looking for spooky Halloween reading, I would recommend Sparrow Hill Road. Here is a link to my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
