Scavenger Hunt XI

Duration: July 1st to September 30th, 2014

•This “Challenge” works in conjunction with the other challenges you may participate in during this time frame.

•While you are fulfilling the requirements of your other challenges, be on the lookout for the following items - they may be on the cover or mentioned in the book. Most items are specific, but if in doubt about an item – just ask!

•You may use a book to fulfill multiple items (you do not have to read 50 books for this challenge...do not worry!)

•When you find one of the items, list the Book Title and Author (or link the cover), date it, & rate it. Then specify where the item is found within the book. For audiobooks try to put the chapter if possible. If not, then at least let us know you got it from an audiobook.

•Books that are used must be read during the period of this challenge, the challenge does not start until 7/01/14, but you can get your lists together early. Good Luck & Happy Reading! ☺

message 12: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5044 comments Couple of questions - first time trying this:

Can we use words found in a book that we have started prior to 7/1/14 but say we are halfway and words found in last half of book. Can we claim them?

Different colored eyes - you mean like an odd shade - violet comes to mind OR do you mean two different eye color - one blue eye and one green eye?

message 13: by Zuzana (last edited Jun 21, 2014 12:20PM) (new)

Zuzana | 1092 comments I have a couple of questions, too.

What is "A Pool Tale" (no. 38)?

And what about "Nude Recreation" (no. 2)? Never heard that one before, is it supposed to be a euphemism for sex?

message 14: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5044 comments @Zuzana #2 - that's what I figured they meant :D

message 15: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Melissa - As long as the part of the book that you claim words from is read after the 1st of July, then you can use that book.

Different colored eyes, I did mean two different colored eyes like blue and green, but I will accept violet or gold...something atypical.

Zuzana - Pool Tale should be Pool Table, so I will fix that. Thank you.

Nude Recreation is a holiday in July...it can be anything done in the nude...sex, skinny dipping, streaking, maybe you're reading a book that has a nudist camp and they're playing nude volleyball...as long as they're nude and it's a form of recreation, that'll work.

message 16: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5044 comments Thanks Paris - yep I meant the part that was read after the 1st and for the clarification about the eyes :)

V_Nerdbooks | 5307 comments Of I have some questions already Paris sorry.
Can we have coffee cup or does it have to be a mug?
Does it have to be an actual injury or are you specifically looking for the word injury?

V_Nerdbooks | 5307 comments Same question for celebration Paris, an actual one like a birthday or the word Celebration?
Sorry to be a pest straight away lol.

message 36: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Okay Vicci here we go...

Coffee Mug please, not coffee cup unless they are at home...then I'd be more likely to accept mug. It has to be clear that it's not a disposable coffee cup or something like that.

For injury, any kind of injury is fine. it doesn't specifically have to say injury. So sprained ankle, bullet wound, knife wound, paper cut...or even generic injury.

Celebration, any celebration will do. Could just be the generic word celebration or more specific like birthday, graduation, 4th of July, etc.

Do those make sense? Cause I probably could have explained them better. I blame the heat. And never worry about asking too many questions or being a pest. I want everyone to have fun with this and clarifications are definitely necessary.

~Melissa~ | 5044 comments Paris - sorry does it have to say what the injury was or just imply the injury? I can't remember the sentence precisely in the book I'm reading but it talks about the MC's sports injuries but doesn't say what they were/are.

Award - again can it be the word (awards) or does it have to mention what the award(s) are?

Thanks!!

message 40: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Just a mention of the injury is fine does not have to be specific. Same with award.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 2392 comments QUESTIONS:
8. Someone with different colored eyes
Do you mean a character whose two eyes are each a different color (e.g. one brown eye and one green eye)?

23. Prostitute/Courtesan
Would a "mistress" count?

34. Fedora
Reading a book written & set in 1934. The men frequently grab their hats, or take their hats off, but it isn't specifically stated "fedora." Given the time frame it's likely that they are fedoras, however ...

BONUS 3. Car older than 1960
Same book written/set in 1934 - the specific model isn't mentioned just the Car (or Taxi), but clearly they are prior to 1960.

BONUS 4. Writer
Character is a poet with a recent book published. Does this count?

message 43: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments BC, thanks for the questions.

I am looking for two different eye colors (one brown, one green), but I did concede to different as in odd (ie: gold, violet)

Prostitute: I'm looking for someone who gets paid, so mistress wouldn't work unless she's being paid for it.

For Fedora, I'd prefer that the hats are specified somewhere that it is a fedora.

Car older than 1960, your example would work since it's gonna be pretty obvious that it's older than 1960.

I believe a poet is a writer, so that will definitely work.

I'm reading a book now where a character is described as having "incredibly clear eyes" (i.e. such a pale blue they are like ice) ... so would that work?

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Sure. That's different.
