Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I've kept my first book in the Dark Moon series in KU but reduced the price to 0.99 for at least a month. It has taken a while, but sales have increased a little. Let's face it, we all try different combinations of 'how to sell', and some work and some don't, so it's good to share.

Sorry for being so quiet - I've been in China... It's taking me a while to get back into the swing of things.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Today is the second day of spring and it snowed here in the Northeast! My body cannot take these 6-month long winters. I want... NEED to move where I'm not in pain every day. Ugh.

I plan on spending the weekend cuddled up on the sofa with the Hubby and dogs watching movies and shows. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Hugs to All!!

Simi Sunny | 93 comments Too bad I can't get one; my sister is allergic to them :(

message 663: by Simi (new)

Simi Sunny | 93 comments Well, one day, my sister and I met find a dog or cat that won't easily make my sister have an allergic reaction.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Simi wrote: "Well, one day, my sister and I met find a dog or cat that won't easily make my sister have an allergic reaction."

Simi, Alex is right, there are dogs that won't cause an allergic reaction. For example, dogs with hair instead of fir. It's dander in fir that causes an allergic reaction.

I've been a dog rescuer for over 20 years and we always have several dogs in the house. I suffer major depression, anxiety, and other issues and find great comfort being around them. hugging them, Interacting with them makes me smile and laugh.

Taking care of a dog is hard work and rewarding. Feeding, medicating, bathing, gives me a purpose.

Having a pet is a responsibility that requires times and money. Just another thing to think about before making the commitment.

Good luck with your decision, Simi. Wishing you comfort and peace. Hugs

Thank you, Alex, for your compliments. Yes, dogs are absolutely wonderful and are always there for you. I'm so glad you and your Mum have Molly and I'm glad Molly has you both. It's a good relationship all around. Please hug her for me. Hugs to you, too.

Simi Sunny | 93 comments Thanks, Alex 😁💛

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Hi All, I'm sorry haven't participated or supported the group. My mind is on my Dad. He had cataract surgery on one eye last week, a painful back procedural test yesterday (for which we have to wait one week for the results), and is having cataract surgery on the other eye next week. I've been trying to be positive on FB and Twitter. I mean every word I write, but I'm scared and crying. At least I can hide that on the internet.

I hope everything is going well for everyone. Hugs to All, Sam

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Thank you, Alex. It's hard living so far away from him and we reunited just 10 years ago and have only gotten together 4 times. Not enough. He had open heart surgery 20 years ago. I want to see him. I NEED to see him and hug him. It's hard Thank you for your good wishes. Hugs

message 674: by Carmel (new)

Carmel Hanes I'm sorry to hear that, Sam. Those procedures are no fun, but I hope the end result makes it all worthwhile, and that the back procedure reveals something easy to remedy. He is lucky to have such a caring daughter.

message 675: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Oh Sam, my heart goes out to you. Of course your mind is on your good Dad going through so much all at the same time. But something is being done to improve his life, so smile for him, take a deep breath and soldier on for him. And cry. Nothing wrong with crying.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments My father in law had both eyes done last month. I didn’t even know he had cataracts. He didn’t tell us until he had a date for the surgery.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Thank you all for your comfort and understanding.

Carmel - I also hope the results reveal an easy fix.

Anna - We speak on the phone often and I can hear the pain in his voice, but it's the only way I can be with him, so I'm grateful for that.

D.J. - I'm sure he didn't want to worry you, as my Dad didn't tell me either. I got a text from my (step)mom. What a surprise.

Have a great day everyone. Hugs to All

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments D.J. - I also hope my Dad recovers quickly. He's so impatient, my Mom is afraid he's going to go out and mow the lawn... something he should NOT be doing! Hugs

message 685: by Simi (new)

Simi Sunny | 93 comments I can understand. Your dad is the type of perwon who likes to be productive, not sit around all the time. One day, he can be. But I do hope you remind him that in order to get back on his feet is that he needs to recover first.

Sam, cataract surgery is a routine procedure with positive results, no need to worry, your Dad will be fine. I had both eyes done a few years ago, and don't have to wear glasses except for reading, yeah!

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Thank you, Judy. You're right, his eyes are doing well. It's his back injury I'm worried about now. Hugs

Simi Sunny | 93 comments Well, I'm not getting any better, and it's only because I've been coughing since I had a fever from over the weekend. So I'm going to see a doctor to find a way to get myself better before I leave for vacation.

I tried everythinf to get some relief. From taking Robotusin to Nyquil, nothing couldn't get much relief. Well, I hack so much at night than in the day time, but I need to get this taken care of. Otherwise, I'm going to affect my ears (one is already affected from coughing too much).

Oh, and if I'm not here tomorrow, please wish me luck. I'm nervous when it comes to air traveling.

Thanks, Alex and Anna. It turns out that I have an ear interaction, which causes me to cough so much. I don't see how, unless respiratory problems counts.

Simi Sunny | 93 comments Just a curiosity: I wonder if it's possible to read while in an airplane? Anyone has done that? I know reading while in a moving vehicle is bad, but I wonder if reading in an airplane applies, too. Please feel free to let me know before I leave.

She didn't say anything about having a problem during flight. My doctor said to take one tonight, then take two tomorrow (one for the morning, and the other before I head in the airplane).

Thanks, Alex. Hopefully, I won't have a problem reading. I already have three books to keep me occupied. It would be a waste, if I'm not able to.

Feel better Simi. I can't read in a car- but I always manage to read a lot on a plane. Have a good flight.

message 696: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Yes, same here. Can't read in a car, but can get totally lost in a book on a plane. Have missed meals like that!

Hope you feel better soon.

message 697: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I can't read in a car. Annoyingly, I can navigate using a map-but not in the car. So that's useless then!

I can read on a train and in a plane.

message 698: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 861 comments I’ve been trying to publish a book for over two years now. Some friends I met back then already have over 10 titles under their belt. I still have zero.

At first, I struggled because I’m a perfectionist and because I know when a book is bad, just okay or great. I wanted to write a book that was if not great, was at least really fucking good. But I kept struggling and just couldn’t manage to create something good. Now, I know what went wrong. First, the genre I chose was wrong: erotic romance suspense. The lesson I learned was that just because you love a genre doesn’t mean you will also be good at writing it.

Secondly, my legal career took off in the middle of my writing career. Combining being legal counsel for a big company and writing proved hard as hell. So, I gave up on the whole writing thing. My websites expired, and I suddenly wasn’t as involved with planning promotional events.

Then I found an image.(My writing always starts with a visual aid). Of two teens. One of them is kissing the other on the cheek. I, just heard them in my head. It was nothing like I’d ever written before. A young adult novel. A paranormal, shifter, YA story that was sillier than anything else I’ve put on paper. I loved the first few chapters. But alas, work was insane. Mergers, takeovers. So, I quit the book. Again.

I love my regular, corporate job. I love it. I didn’t think I’d need to go back to writing, my life felt full as it is.

And then my cousin died. He was 25.
And I felt angry. And broken. And just sad. I didn’t understand why he had to die so young and so violently.

But his passing made me realize that life is short. And that it’s important to pursue your dreams. That it is IMPORTANT to make time for your dreams.

So, I took a few days off from the job this week. And I’m going to spend them finishing this book. For my cousin but mostly for me. Wish me luck. :)

message 699: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie My condolences on the loss of your cousin. Life is short, and I wish you well on your writing path. May the words flow.

message 700: by Carole (new)

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
Profound, Alexis. You are so right, just because you love a genre, that doesn't mean you should write in it.
I never read a horror book in my life, don't go to horror movies and I have to say when people say Bulwark is chilling or scary, I chuckle a little bit. I don't know where that came from.
Grief works in mysterious ways. I started my whole writing career when my mom passed. Writing The Knowing was a love letter to my husband, that I don't think I could have written while he was alive.
I'm sad for your loss. It's good that you took your sorrow and changed it into positive energy like producing your book. Maybe writing YA is more about the promise of youth and life we have before us. As such, it's a loving testimony for your cousin.
