Tracey (trakka) | 1363 comments Veronica wrote: "I'm reading very slowly these days, Tracey, but I'm enjoying the book and the writing style. I initially chose it because Neil Gaiman raved about it and I love his work. That said, I can see where it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes. It has a Georgian-esque setting and the more formal sounding writing style matches it perfectly. It's not a hugely action oriented book but, as Gaiman said, I find myself "wandering through the words". The main story has a lot of footnotes which, in their own way, are almost a complete side story of it's own...."

Thanks Veronica! It seems to be a book that needs time and attention and I think that is what is putting me off. I want to take the time to enjoy it but at the same time I have all these other books that need reading :-) One day I will set aside the time.

That was me last year. I was participating in a pretty intense challenge in another group and the result was that I put off all of the longer books on my TBR shelf. I'm taking this year off from that annual challenge so I'm making an effort to tackle some of those long books. And also to just take a more leisurely approach to reading this year. :-)

Anita (anitanodiva) | 4036 comments Cold Fear (Cold Justice, #4) by Toni Anderson Cold Fear by Toni Anderson. This is the last book I got in this series for cheap. Now I'm going to prove how good this series is by paying full price for the rest of it. It's that good.

Reading Death Comes to the Fair (Kurland St. Mary Mystery, #4) by Catherine Lloyd - I'm really enjoying this series of cozy historicals.

Listening to The Demon Lover (Fairwick Chronicles, #1) by Juliet Dark - it has a lovely gothic vibe to it and the references to classic lit and folklore appeals to the academic in me.

I read your review on Sookie. I had a hard time getting hooked when I read it forever ago. I might give the series another go on audio since you enjoyed that format.

Erin (erin36) | 484 comments I'm officially back to work after my maternity leave so my reading has come to almost a grinding halt. I did however, manage to get up to date in the Arcana Chronicles series by Kresley Cole and it's the first series in years I've started and read back to back until I ran out of books! I just finished Arcana Rising (The Arcana Chronicles, #4) by Kresley Cole and gave it 5 stars.

Jeff I'm brand new to this group; figured this is a good place to start...

Harry Potter: Re-reading, but this time listening to the audiobooks.

Jack Reacher: My first time through this series; just finished #5, Echo Burning.

John Wells: Next up, #4, The Midnight House

Jack Ryan: I recently read Executive Orders which I had started but never finished many many years ago. Definitely planning on continuing but I might also re-read the series in chronological order - at least one of the newer ones I haven't read yet takes place early on chronologically.

Harry Bosch Universe: Mostly re-reading this series, although in a few cases I only listened to an Abridged audiobook, and some I barely remember because I read them 15-20 years ago. I'm also going to read Void Moon which I've never read, but is tangentially connected to the Harry Bosch series. I'm currently on Blood Work, and for now only planning on getting caught up through The Overlook, then picking up the latest one, The Wrong Side of Goodbye. I'm sure I'll get back to the others some time soon, but I mainly started re-reading these to refresh my memory on all the ones featured in the TV series on Amazon.

John Puller: New one came out in November (No Man's Land), haven't gotten around to it yet.

Jeff Thank you, Jonetta! Yes, I found this group because you had mentioned something about it in another thread where I had asked about the HB Universe series. I finally figured out what the group was called. I'm not quite following that schedule but I'll definitely check out the discussions, thanks!

I'm still looking at which series I might finish or get up-to-date on this year. With all those series and other stand-alone books I'm planning on reading, I may not actually get caught up on more than just a few.

Jeff Veronica wrote: "Welcome, Jeff! It looks like you're already tackling some pretty good series. Jack Reacher and John Puller are both still on my TBR shelf. One day, one day..."

Thank you! Yeah I'm glad I finally started the Reacher series. It's one of those I had put off for a while because I knew if I liked the series, I'd have to add about 20-some books to my already-too-long backlog of books I want to read. But I've liked it so far - I usually can't put them down. I've been a David Baldacci fan for a while so I've generally been caught up on all of his series within a few months of when they come out for years now. The Puller series is a good one.

I'm a Baldacci fan, too, and started two before I got completely immersed in Amos Decker. I really want to get back to King & Maxwell, too.

This is a friendly group and we're here to help. If there's a resource you're looking for, just ask and we'll help you out.
