Annerlee | 2873 comments I'm currently reading Rebecca on audiobook. It'll count towards the monthly challenge if I finish in August, but I'm also reading in preparation for a re- read of Bag of Bones. I want to see which elements made it into SK's book.
I plan to re-read The Dark Tower series plus SK's link in works starting the journey mid September, so these are my first preparations ;-)
See http://thetowerlibrary.proboards.com/... to see what I mean and http://stephenking.com/darktower/conn...

The roadmap is something Debra suggested a while back. I' m just getting geared up for it now. If anyone wants to join in, they're most welcome!

Kristie | 19227 comments I'm finally moving through some books. I finished The Breakdown and Hook's Tale.

I have started Smells Like Dog for the yearly challenge. It has really good ratings, but so far it reads as a bit juvenile. It is a middle grade book, so I suppose I should expect that, but I'm really hoping for a good story.

I am also starting Silence Fallen for the yearly challenge in the next day or so.

I have Bag of Bones ready and waiting to read so i'd happily read that along with you.

Margo | 11663 comments I'd be interested in reading Bag of Bones with you Annerlee :-)

message 1155: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Bag of bones is a good one and a great fall read to boot

message 1156: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started Orphan Train for the survey challenge.

message 1157: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments The talk about Bag of Bones makes me want to read it again.

message 1158: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments I own Bag of Bones, but don't think I ever read it. I was just going through my books and had to decide on some to get packed away for a while. That was one that ended up packed because I didn't plan to read it anytime soon. You are making me want to go rescue it from the box!

message 1159: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments I started listening to Silence Fallen, but don't seem to be in the mood for it. I usually really enjoy this series, so I'm going to put it aside until I'm more in the mood. I'm not sure what I'm going to listen to instead. Maybe The Promise for the yearly challenge? Or Jaws or Relic?

I'm in a very strange position of having some time for an audio, but no group or buddy reads on audio and the monthly challenge doesn't start for a few days. So, no "need to" books at the moment. Now, I get to choose a challenge book by mood. I just need to decide what I'm in the mood for!

I know not everyone likes king reading his own book but I thought the audio was excellent. Then you don't have to unvury it ;)

message 1162: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I finished the Riyria trilogy. Only disappointment was that I figured most of it out in book 2. Still enjoyed it though . Been in the world so long I'm not sure where to go next.

message 1163: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments Good idea, Travis. Of course, I'll be using half of my Audible credits on the Dark Tower series. But then there's always the library.

This was my issue with the first book. I think that's what slowed me down in wanting to read the next one. But I did enjoy it.

Jake Newman | 91 comments Just started "Carve The Mark" I'm really liking it so far! Anyone else read this?

Sarah | 18550 comments Jake wrote: "Just started "Carve The Mark" I'm really liking it so far! Anyone else read this?"

Please could you link the book so that we can check it out to see if we have read it or not. You cannot do this in the app so that might be why you haven't but in the webpage, above the comment box, there is a link "add book/author". Click on that and it will bring up a search function. Type in the book and click search then select the book which you wish to mention and it will insert it in to your comment. We can then click on it and go straight to the book.

message 1167: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I started Soot at the weekend, but I have now put it back on my TBR because I just wasn't in the right mood for it. I am now going to start Assassin's Quest.

Yes, I read Carve the Mark. I hope you enjoy it. I found it a bit unremarkable, possibly a bit too "YA" for me.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments I'm reading Hotel by Arthur Hailey

message 1170: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Somehow in my search for a book I found myself buying Rebecca which I admit I never had any ambition to read yet Annerlee commenting on bag of bones being based off it or some aspects used from it I felt I should read it. And to my shock am enjoying it quite a bit

I too found Annerlee's comment intriguing. I'm I'll read Bag of Bones first then give Rebecca a go at some point.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Rebecca is one of my favorites :)

message 1173: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I started Radiance which I got on the recent 2 for 1 sale at audible. I didn't have high expectations, but it sounded interesting so thought I'd try it. So far it is really good. The banter between the two main characters is great. I have found myself smiling and laughing a lot in the couple of hours I've listened so far. That has been a very pleasant surprise. I hope the book continues on this path.

message 1174: by Jake (new)

Jake Newman | 91 comments Ok sorry, I don't get on my laptop that much to leave links but I'll try! And yes it is a lot of YA but it is pretty interesting

message 1175: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Finished Rebecca. 5 stars from me as so many others have done. I can see the connection in bag of bones. King took things to a far greater supernatural level but the house and atmosphere were of much the same feel. Bag of Bones would have taken place almost entirely in the boat house cabin and Rebecca would have been a real haunting ghost were they melded into one. I do need to reread bag of bones now though. I do have a print version of it but probably just relistened to it again. For now I must finish Black Flagged Alpha. Not a bad book but I can never fully engaged myself in these types of reads for some reason

message 1176: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I was looking at the next books in the series and the ratings keep getting better. Perhaps if I see more black flagged books in sales I may keep at them. They are a nice break up to everything else I read as I normally do t do much that's military type action

I think I shall also have to reread Bag of Bones. Was there talk of a buddy read?

message 1178: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I think Annerlee was going to start the road to the Dark Tower with Bag if Bones and I believe Sarah was going to join her and perhaps Kristie so yes I do believe a buddy read is in the works

message 1179: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I shall need to look the map up I can't figure how Bag of Bones links. Could be just sharing the same town I guess.

message 1180: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Oh 19. Now I can't remember how 19 played in bag of bones. Lol. This is a deadly move as I think one could easily begin the entire journey without meaning to do so

message 1181: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments Travis, I left a couple of blog links, I think in the buddy read request folder, that show the suggested order of the reads and some say how they connect. May be something in there regarding Bag of Bones.

message 1182: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I was trying to recall which thread I'd seen those Kristie. Thanks

message 1183: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished Blood of Innocents and I'm done with the series. I'll pass on the final book. This one was 'meh'.

I have time to squeeze another audiobook in before the buddy read for See What I Have Done, so I'll start Pretty When She Dies.

message 1184: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I finished Dogs of War for the all about me challenge and for netgalley review. I am now starting The Skull Throne for the all about me challenge but also the new book comes out in September. I am both excited about reading this and nervous too. I remember seeing a spoiler for the book in a "review" for the new book which hasn't come out yet. Dumb person. And dumb me for scrolling down to the reviews.

message 1185: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Started 1Q84. 46 hours. This may take a bit

message 1186: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments Just saw that one is on sale on Audible, Travis. It's on my wish list, but it's SO long.

message 1187: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That's why I have it. 4.95 only one on my wish list. So far it's a different feel than the other books by him. I think because so far it's easy to follow. 2 storylines. I wouldn't say normal people living normal lives, but so far lives that are easy to follow

message 1188: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I'd be afraid to give it a chance given that it's over 900 pages. Maybe it won't be so bad if it's easy to follow (so far).

message 1189: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments Good to know. Thanks. I'm still considering getting it. It's the only one in my wishlist on sale too. Though, I did find some other books I'd be interested in. Of course.

message 1190: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I have 1Q84 in my cart but haven't checked out yet. I didn't even pay attention to how long it is!
I haven't read any Haruki Murakami before, but I want to thanks to all of the fabulous reviews I'm always seeing.

message 1191: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I've read over half of Murakami books I'd guess. The length of 1q84 intimidated me before but I feel I've read enough by him to tackle it. I've even reread a few of the first ones I read so I should be ready

message 1192: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2652 comments Some of Murakami's books are long, but they read very fast. He's one of my favorite writers!

message 1194: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I must say 1Q84 does exceed a reasonable level of descriptions of breasts and perhaps lesbian sex. I see mostly women comment on these things in his books. Well at least the breast part. I've not really noticed before now. There's always pretty graphic usually weird sex but I think we're headed to an all new level even for Murakami

message 1195: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I will warn there is quite a bit of domestic abuse to woman. We get the description after the fact not during the abuse the types of bruising the women have and such. It is relevant to the story but just a warning if it bothers you you may not want to try this Murakami. Although a detailed description of the act itself would be far worse and so far there hasn't been much of that only brief descriptions.

message 1196: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I don't know that I would have noticed the excessive boob descriptions, Travis, but now I will. LOL. I bought 1Q84 and a few others on the audible sale. Not sure when I'll get started on it though. Thanks for the warning about the abuse. I tend to read dark books on occasion so I can probably stomach it.

I'm currently listening to Numbers. It is about a girl who sees numbers when she looks in the eyes of other people. Those numbers are dates, more specifically the date that person will die. Pretty good so far, but the accent of the narrator is sometimes hard for me to understand. There is a lot of slang and she speaks in a thick British accent that has to belong to a certain geographical region. Plus I keep getting distracted by certain words. The narrator says "through" as "frew" and a few other TH words get an F sound. Not sure if this is part of the dialect she is using or just the way she actually speaks.

message 1197: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished Orphan Train, which I found a bit disappointing. Next I'll start The Paris Wife for the group read.

message 1198: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11289 comments Sorry to hear about Orphan Train, Peggy. I know I liked it, but to be honest, I can't remember to much of it. I'll take a look at my review/comment, if I wrote one.

message 1199: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11289 comments I am rereading Lord of the Flies for my real life book club. I will also start today The Witchfinder's Sister for the monthly read. And I have The Lady of the Camellias as an audiobook going on too.
