just finished "Cast in Stone"
by G.M. Ford. A Leo Waterman mystery--I really liked it.now reading "Valley of Bones"
by Michael Gruber. Gruber ghost-wrote a bunch of Robert Tannenbaum's Butch Karp mysteries. He's very good.
I finished The Cleaner
by Paul Cleave.A serial killer is raping and murdering women in Christchurch, Zealand - and the killer has insinuated himself into a janitor's job at the police station. The story is told mostly from the murderer's POV. Pretty good thriller. 3 stars.

Pleasantly surprised by Big little lies by Liane Moriarty so far I absolutely hated the husband's secret by her
Finished Storm Front today, at exactly 3 a.m. in the middle of the night. Just awesome. Also, it's been raining for over a week here, with occasional storms... so I couldn't expect a better time and place for this book... damn I'm cold...

I am going to start reading
by
Meg Gardiner next. I won a copy of this on a Goodreads Giveaway
I finished Behind Her Eyes
by Sarah Pinborough.Single parent Louise gets involved in an affair with her new boss.... while sumultaneously becoming friends with his wife.
But there's much more than a romantic triangle going on in this unique psychological thriller. Lots of people love this book but for me it's just okay. 3 stars.

Pop Goes the Weasel by M.J. ArlidgeHelen Grace #2
My Review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading a novel that is loosely based on the story behind Peter Jackson's film Heavenly Creatures, Harriet Said..., by Beryl Bainbridge. If you haven't seen that film, the identity of one of the girls involved in real-life murder was revealed later as Ann Perry, the author of several historical mystery novels. The events of the film aren't really the subject of the book; it's a portrait of two young girls involved in a horrific (as the back-cover blurb says), "scheme to beguile, then humiliate" a man the girls had met whom they've nicknamed The Tsar, "with disastrous, shocking consequences." I haven't reached the midway point, but so far it's very, very good.
Just finished
yesterday. Started
today. Third in the series, and I enjoyed the first two. Looking forward to this one.
Just picked up A Great Reckoning, by Louise Penny, another Three Pine & Gamache mystery. Can't wait to dive in!
Now reading Baby Doll by Hollie Overton, I've recently read Roadwork by Stephen King, The mistake I made by Paula Daly and Big little lies by Liane Moriarty I enjoyed them all 4★ each
After recently reading Cody McFadyen's The Darker Side
, I couldn't wait to read #4,
Abandoned. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I was a bit disappointed in
Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson. I was expecting more from this author. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
just finished "Valley of Bones"
by Michael Gruber. Really loved this book--it has everything: suspense, humor, violence and even love and some religion. Not my religion, but still. Anyway, highly recommended.
I just finished The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith aka J.K Rowling - have to say I wasn't a big fan. It felt slow and a bit boring. Not sure if they get any more exciting?

I felt the same... I couldn't even continue after a while, though still hanging in my currently-reading list!
I've just finished Uncle Silas, by Le Fanu (1864), a great Victorian gothic novel. Mystery abounds, as does a large measure of creepiness and gut-tightening suspense.
Nancy wrote: "I've just finished Uncle Silas, by Le Fanu (1864), a great Victorian gothic novel. Mystery abounds, as does a large measure of creepiness and gut-tightening suspense."sounds enthralling must check it out.

Hi. I'm new to this group, and just thought I would say how much I'm enjoying Darktown by Thomas Mullen. It's a superbly written historical crime novel set in 1940s Atlanta.

Yes, enthralling is a good adjective -- but fyi, it was written in the Victorian era so might be a bit wordy for modern readers. I loved it.

Currently reading two books (one day/one night):
day: Wise Children, by Angela Carter
night: Requiem At Rogano, which is a historical crime fiction mystery that (so far) looks back at a series of murders from the 15th century. Incredibly good to this point.

Yes, I've read that. Also loved The Magic Toyshop, which I can remember quite vividly despite having the memory of a sieve.

I quit reading that sort of thing (well, as much as possible given that a lot of modern crime novels make abduction their centerpiece). I also don't read novels where torture is made graphic -- jeez louise, some authors go out of their way to make it as gross and disgusting as they possibly can. Why anyone finds that sort of thing entertaining is beyond my scope of understanding.

I finished Hag-Seed
by Margaret Atwood. This book is part of the Hogarth Shakespeare Project, in which famous authors re-tell and modernize the bard's great works. Hag-Seed is a modern version of 'The Tempest.' Atwood's book is very inventive and creative....well worth reading if you like this sort of thing. 4 stars.
