Thank you to Net Galley, the author and the publishers for an ARC copy for an honest review.
Firstly let me explain why 3.5/4 star book.
Still very enjoyable, love the main character Jon Reznick and Martha Meyerstein but the story was slightly slower going, a lot of meetings, a lot of surveillance, a lot more "talking" rather than action.
An American diplomat goes missing and ex-Special Forces operative Jon Reznick joins a top secret team, led by FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein, to help track him down.
The team believes that there may be a terrorist group - perhaps Islamists - who have kidnapped him, as the diplomat's area of expertise is the Persian Gulf. But Reznick is training his sights on an unlikely candidate - a leading Washington DC surgeon.
But as the team itself comes under attack, and the 9/11 commemoration approaches, it becomes clear that the kidnapping is part of a much bigger plot, one that threatens not only New York, but the whole country too.
Although not as fast paced as the first book, still well paced, tensions really build up for the last third of the book, many great characters and quite a few shocks throughout.
Jon Reznick is a great strong character that will be around for a awhile.
Another series that fans of action thrillers will enjoy.
Now straight to Book 3.

After Cass fails to assist a woman stranded on a lonely road in the rain, she hears the woman has been murdered. Cass's guilt and shock - as well as her fear that she's getting early onset dementia - push her toward a mental breakdown. This second psychological suspense novel by Paris is just okay for me.
3 stars

Good read. My favorite of the series so far is The Moth Catcher.

I've only read The Crow Trap so far, then got sidetracked with a couple of her Shetland stories. Oh, The Moth Catcher was on PBS last night.

My Review
I am in next in line for a couple of books at my local library so I don't want to start a long book.
Browsing around I decided I will read

I'm starting a Rex Stout as well Jim. :).. In my case, The League of Frightened Men.

I'm burnt out on the standard mystery fare but this sounds really interesting.

Welcome to my life -- "burnt out on the standard mystery fare" -- which is why I look to indie presses and to the past. But this one is really good.

Millar has become one of my favourite mystery writers. She is definitely not standard mystery fare. She's written some of my favourites and I've been searching for and luckily finding some of her other mysteries.

Hi Bill: I always enjoy going back to a Nero Wolfe mystery. Never a disappointment.

Weldon Holland (grandson of Hackberry Holland for fans of that series) meets Bonnie and Clyde; becomes a WWII hero; marries a woman he rescues from a Nazi concentration camp; and goes into the oil pipeline business with his former sergeant. When he attracts the attention of Texas oil barons....big trouble starts. Highly recommended standalone from this fine author. 4 stars.

Brain Haig is one of those writers that for me every book of his is a 5 star. This is the 4th book I read and sure enough it got my 5 stars. I love the witty of the main character -Sean Drummond. It is one of those few writers that although his genre is about legal drama he still make me laugh. This book has everything in it with just the right measure. Legal, Drama, FBI, CIA. And even a little bit of romance. I wish it was 700 pages and not “only” 500. The story has twists and surprises in every new chapter. I don’t recall reading so much on my cell phone, just couldn’t wait to get back home to my kindle

My Review
I am going to start

I had a hold request on this for a while now. It wasn't the book I was expecting to be notified was ready for pickup but it was the one I got. I am not sure now why I put a hold request on this but it seems to have good ratings so I am willing to check it out.

Millar is always wonderful.

I thoroughly enjoyed this screenplay for the movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
Magizoologist Newt Scamander comes to NYC with a case of magical creatures. When some of his animals escape, there's a danger that 'no-mags' will cop to the fact that there are witches and wizards around. This is really bad, because some people want to wipe out magical beings. 4 stars.

NR....now reading "Home"

really great so far as three separate stories going on but waiting for a terrible ending as usually when I like the first half of a book the ending is bad. Will have to see.

Yes read in order, I was so glad author did what she did

I love the books but found the BBC drama diabolical. Prefer the Vera adaptation first two series but now they are just based upon the books, new series starts this week so hoping it will be ok.

Yes I did, It was my 4th book and also my favorite one so far.

NR...now reading "Crashed"

On Friday I finished reading The Ministry of Fear - not quite the action-packed spy thriller of modern times (which in my opinion is a good thing) but still highly satisfying. Then on Sunday I watched the film and was grateful I'd read the novel first -- let's just say that the guy who wrote the script took a lot of creative liberties.

I don't recommend it, 2/5, my review

Hi Rhian, did you ever finish The Cuckoo's Calling? Just interested to know what you thought ..

Thanks for that ... yes, I thought the end went on a bit long. But I'm steeling myself to listen to the second one as an audio book, on the promise that they get better!

I hope they've lined up someone good to play Strike.

The Rules of Backyard Cricket by Aussie author Jock Serong.
Colourful story of brothers who are like a psychotic Shane Warne split in two. (Google him if you don't know him.)
