Nina just finished The Caller (Robert Hunter, #8) by Chris Carter
gripping and exciting as usual from Chris Carter! Also I didn't expect the twist at the end and why the killer did what he did (could definitely feel with the reasons).
Total recommendation!!

Which Rendell? My personal favorites are A Dark-Adapted Eye (under the name Barbara Vine), A Judgement in Stone, and Adam and Eve and Pinch Me. I would read any of those before a Wexford series novel.

An epidemic called Dragonscale is causing victims to spontaneously combust and incinerate to death. Harper Grayson is a pregnant woman who's contracted the illness. Determined to give birth, she joins a secret community of victims who seem able to survive the infection. Plot involves a classic battle between good and bad people. Good horror/thriller. 4 stars.

William I just finished
A Book of the Dead

Very rare. The first half was fun, charming, good mystery. The second half is dominated by an egotistical bore named Mott. Ruins the book, basically :(

message 1227: by Bill (new)

Bill I finished The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby this morning. It took me a fair while to finish but was well worth it. Now I can focus on Maisie Dobbs and other books.. :)

I've just finished the final part of the Joe Coughlin trilogy - and I didn't realise I'd started at the end! No matter; it really worked for me. Especially after 'Since We Fell', which I truly disliked - it was great to give another Lehane novel a whirl (was touch and go for a while!) and have it come up trumps.

If people have enjoyed Gone Baby Gone, then I'd say definitely try the Coughlin trilogy, too.

Loved Frank who saves people with music - vinyl only! - in The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce, who is well-known for another favourite of mine and others, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. I'm happy to say Frank and his friends are equally wonderful characters.
The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce 4.5★ Link to my review of The Music Shop

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10022 comments I finished The Enemy Inside The Enemy Inside (Paul Madriani, #13) by Steve Martini by Steve Martini

This is the 13th book in the 'Paul Madriani legal thriller' series.

An investigative journalist for an online news site is framed for manslaughter and Paul Madriani takes the case. This leads Paul and his cohorts to unveil a conspiracy involving huge bucks. The story's a bit overloaded and convoluted - and more spy story than legal novel. Can be read as a standalone. 3 stars
