Just completed my 3rd #13 (more than 5 colors) - The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck. I received this book as a free giveaway in exchange for my honest review. And my feelings are mixed about this book. The writing was good, and the imagery was well done. It's a complicated subject-matter, so maybe that's why it seems that the author was confused in the construction of the novel. Sections picked up and dropped with no real rhyme or reason. The characters seemed half-formed. It was an interesting effort, but it just seemed to fall short. 3 stars6/15 - Round 3
Just completed my 3rd #2 (pink) - Starfall by Melissa Landers. Good continuation of this series. While it is helpful to have read the first book, this novel stands alone nicely as well. The characters have continued to develop. The world Landers has built is interesting, and the plot has nice complexity. This is not brainless YA sci fi - it's really good! 4 stars7/15 - Round 3
Finished my 3rd #11 (black) - Signs Preceding the End of the World by Yuri Herrera. While I appreciate this author's perspective, the novel is brief to the point of vague. It was difficult at times to discern to what the author was referring. It might have been translation. Regardless, some of the scenes were really well done, especially regarding the police. And the ending was so vague I have no idea what really happened. Good effort, just not enough detail. 3.5 stars8/15 - Round 3

Just completed my 3rd #7 (light blue) - A Bridge Across the Ocean by Susan Meissner. I am conflicted about this book. I liked the writing style and the characters. But the novel was put together in an odd manner. And in the end, the concept didn't quite come through. Worth reading. 3.5 stars9/15 - Round 3

Just completed my 3rd #1 (white) - Tender by Belinda McKeon. I have conflicted feelings about this book. The first half took me forever to get through. I recognized the young girl's delight in the attention of a male friend, but a critical editor would have been helpful in chopping that down a lot. The second half took an unexpected turn, and her obsession became incredibly sad. For someone who used a lot of words to write about unimportant details, there were several key instances where words were left to be imagined. I get the artistic fancy of this tactic, but as a reader, it was frustrating. The writing was ok, and the story was different, but there was much that could have been done better. I received this book as a giveaway in exchange for my honest opinion. 3 stars10/15 - Round 3
Just completed #10 (brown) - The Last Star by Rick Yancey. Overall, a good series and a good ending. While the series in general has a bit too much teen angst for my taste, the world and dystopian future Yancey created are interesting. I like the character development in this final book, and the ending was a bit of a surprise. Worth reading! 4 stars11/15 - Round 3

Just completed my 3rd #5 (yellow) - Frog Music by Emma Donoghue. I had high hopes for this book, particularly given that Donoghue wrote Room. And I was really disappointed. The novel was disjointed, in plot, phrasing, pacing, and development. It was incredibly difficult to know the main characters, let alone care for anything that happened to them. That had nothing to do with the professions of the characters, but for me, it was entirely due to the oddly disjointed book. It got better by the end but not enough to improve my rating above a 3. Not worth reading. 3 stars12/15 - Round 3

Just finished my 3rd #14 (color in title) - It took me awhile to become interested in the book. While the trappings of the time period were studiously portrayed, the book lacked a connection for me with the main character. However, the mystery was interesting, and I slowly became interested in the people depicted. Worth reading, particularly for anglophiles. 3.5 stars13/15 - Round 3

Just completed my 3rd #3 (red) - The only reason I'm giving this book 1.5 stars instead of 1 star is because the premise was interesting. That was the only thing I liked about this book. The writing was ok, but the story was told in such a wacky lack of chronology that I could never connect with what was happening or with the characters. The author tried way too many gimmicks. And seriously, shorten the sentences! I received this book as a free giveaway in exchange for my honest review. Not worth reading. 1.5 stars14/15 - Round 3
