by Keith Giffen (7/24/17)
Just completed my second #1 (white) - Flawed by Cecelia Ahern. Overall, I enjoyed the concept of this book. The writing was easy to read, but there were a few holes in the plot. The characters were interesting, and I will continue with the series. However, I did not like how the book ended - almost like the author had written both books together and just cut the story in the middle. Worth reading. 3.5 stars15/15 - Round 2 completed!!!

Just finished #4 (orange) - The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. I really enjoyed this book! Do not rely entirely on the description, as I found it a bit misleading when I began. The book is much more complex and focuses almost entirely on the mother character. The entrance of her daughter is cleverly woven in through secondary documents. I know very little about ethnic minorities in China and even less about tea, but the book explains things very well. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars1/15 Round 3

Just finished my 3rd #6 (green) - The Zookeeper's Wife: A War Story by Diane Ackerman. The subject of this book was absolutely fascinating! She was an interesting mix of modern and traditional. I was surprised when I realized it was a work of nonfiction! I appreciated the author relying on source materials but not directly quoting them all the time - it kept the story flowing. However, she did double back quite a bit, which led to a slightly disjointed story. There were also areas that she apparently found fascinating (like bugs) that detracted from the overall book. A bit of editing would have helped. However, overall, really good! Definitely worth reading! 4 stars2/15 Round 3

Just finished my third #9 (purple) - My Name Is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout. I really wanted to like this book. The prose was well-written. However, I could not connect to the main character. The author kept eluding to events in the characters' pasts, but never connected those illusions to anything solid. There were just a lot of unanswered questions, and I did not really care enough about the characters by the end. Not worth reading. 2 stars4/15 Round 3

I'll try to go for the full 15.
Just finished my 3rd #12 (metallic) - Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. This was a really good fantasy book! The only thing I did not like was the prologue. It almost made me not want to read the book - it seemed disconnected from the rest of the story. I understand why the author decided to organize the book this way, but it could have been introduced at a different point and been more effective. Everything else, though, was excellent! 4.5 stars5/15 - Round 3
Updated post #873 - finished the "Dark Blue" book, N.K. Jemisin - The Stone Sky.14/15 done, 1 left (#15 in the list -see below).
