Welcome, Libby. Technically, you can start reading a little early if you want. The rules state that you can't use books for the challenge if you have them more than half-way completed at the start of the challenge (December 1).
By the way, the one thing that we will never throw at you is a book! Far too precious.

Don't worry, there are several of us here who have a kindle! I love mine... I have two bookshelves filled with books in my small dorm room and some have to be piled on top of each other to make room... it was time to convert to it to. Problem is that now, I frequently end up buying it in paperback and kindle form...
I hope you enjoy the challenge! It will be a lot of fun.

I'm Bindy and I just joined this challenge. I love to read and love to get recommendations from others. I am looking forward to where the challenge leads me.

Enjoy!

Small world!!

Thanks, they look awesome, I am designing the winter now and making my shopping list for Christmas. My family will have it easy this year!

I've always loved reading and still do. It's just a matter of finding where to squeeze it in with family and work. I also enjoy other hobbies like video gaming, writing, and blogging.
I'm really hoping to join in on the winter challenge! I'm also in a couple of other reading challenges, so some books might overlap. Overall I love to read YA, some lit, and some fantasy.
I'm using my reading challenges to help me branch out and find other appealing genres that I normally wouldn't go out of my way to read.

I love literary fiction, but think that good prose should always be second to a good story. I have waaay too many favorite books to name, so I won't even get into that right now...Since I spend so much time reading during the week, it's hard to get into a novel while school is in session, so I tend to overdose during the holidays. Which is why I fail at the fall/spring challenges, but devour the winter/summer ones =)
Thanks, Cynthia, for setting all of this up!

Today is December 1, I have joined this group in order to gain some encouragement to read more. I work full-time and find little time to read, but miss those days when I was kid and could fly through a book in a day or two. It seems with the business of life and distractions such as internet (with loads of information), college, marriage, kids and house my reading has taken a backseat. I am looking to discuss current fiction and be challenged to read more. I live in MN and this is a perfect time to sit by the warm cozy fire with a stack of books!
regards,
cindy

This group/challenge made me increase my reading by like 1000%. Before this group, I read maybe five books for fun... I'm a full time college student and work 20+ hours a week. Anyway, I hope that it helps you find more time to read and that you get through that big stack of books!

I've been reading since I was three and am a constant reader, even if it's just a 30 minute drive or a 5 minute lull at work. I am thrilled that I came across the seasonal challenges (and just in time for the winter challenge) because I always seem to read the same type of books and would love to branch out a bit.
I don't plan on completing the challenge, but I am looking forward to exploring more sections of my library. I'm such a nerd I've already picked out one of my books for the Dewey Decimal challenge, and know which section my other book will be from. :)
Good luck to everyone. I look forward to following everyone's progress throughout the winter.

My mother has been hounding me for quite some time to try the challenge. (Hi Mom!) So, of course, I decide to try the one that she is saying is so hard.
So I probably will just set a goal for a certain number of points and work from there.

So I finally twisted your arm hard enough!! Have fun with the challenge, however much you decided to try.

I've wanted to participate in the challenges since the summer, but I can never get it together and keep track of the tasks. But I've committed to try the winter challenge, and I'm excited to start.

Good Luck :~)

When I received the Winter newsletter a few days ago I decided to check it out again, and lo! and behold, I found an entire group dedicated to challenges! (Well, and books. =]) I look forward to working on them with everyone, and already have my first two books lined up. I can't wait for finals to be over so I can get my hands on 'em.

Nancy,
You can join the current challenge at any time & any books you have read during the challenge period (in this case, any book read in December) can be used to fulfill the tasks.

I love the idea of this group with the challenges and am looking forward to completing at least a few of the task!!

Happy holidays to everybody!!

I'm also not good at writing long intros, so you'll have to, you know, let the mystery unfold.

When I'm not out protecting and preserving our water resources in southern WV, I enjoy curling up on the couch with a good book (of course!)spending time with my boyfriend and our puppy and cat, live music, playing outside and getting dirty!, and I always have some sort of craft going whether it be soap-making, knitting, weaving, or whatever strikes my interest at the time (currently I'm obsessed with learning how to handspin yarn.)
I joined this group because I always seem to go for the same authors and same types of books. I think this will broaden my spectrum. Happy Reading!

Happy reading, and I hope to see everyone on the boards! :)
Peace
