This is my second ever reading challenge and it appears to be the most daunting and the one that sounds like it will really open my eyes to books I hadn't considered reading in the past or books I may have thought about reading but just hadn't gotten around to. I've read a few books already this past month so I'll have to check the many tasks and see if any apply.
Anyway, sorry this is long! A little about me: I live in Texas, I have an 8-year-old son, I'm currently a SAHM, though hoping to attend college soon to get a Medical Secretary certificate. In addition to reading, I enjoy surfing the internet, games (board and video), listening to music, baking, collecting cookbooks and recipes, taking walks, watching movies and TV, spending time with friends and family.

I am married and I have absolutely adorable 15-month-old twin girls. (So it is pretty hard to find time to read but I read any time I can, and I looove audiobooks!)
I have been reading forever, since I was 5, but lately more so, when I realized that reading was the best escape for me from the real life. I love immigrant literature, and foreign classics. Some of my favorite books are Les Miserables, Master and Margarita, Crime and Punishment, and Anna Karenina.

But first, here's my intro:
I'm Kelley and I live in the DFW area with my three "children" of the four-footed and furry variety: Sheba, Aker, and Amun, affectionately known as cats.
I work as an environmental contractor for the Army Reserves, a job I've had since 1997 in which there is never a dull moment and no two days are the same.
I have been reviewing books since 2001 and got started on it completely by accident. That accident turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I discovered a hobby I thoroughly enjoy and an outlet for my opinions about the books I love... or love to hate. *g* Now I don't think I'll ever stop!
My first love in genres is paranormal romance. I don't care for erotica or bordering on erotica books though. I prefer something left to the imagination. *wink* I'm also a huge fan of urban fantasy and fantasy, romance or not. I listen to a ton of audio books and those I do whatever sounds interesting and usually that the library has. So I do a lot of thrillers and suspense in audio since they are fun to listen to and easy to keep my attention. My favorite series on audio is Rogue Angel. Harlequin publishes the print but the company that does the audio is amazing. Lots of sound effects and theme music, even a full cast. I won't even read those books in print as the audio adventure is so much fun!
looking forward to maybe trying to participate in some of the challenges. I may have difficulties though since my book budget is near nil due to some new monthly expenses for things I have to worry about. I get a lot of review books though so I'm never lacking for what to read. but because they are review books, I don't really get to play around a lot with what to read when and why.

I've always loved to read (I got in trouble in class for reading books...not talking! lol). My friend introduced me to this site and it's pretty nice! I wish I could remember the titles to everything I have read, but oh well. It will be interesting to see how many books I can read!
I joined the group to see if I could motivate myself to read more (I have 2 boys and sometimes I slack without realizing it and then go crazy and read two books in a day--ignoring everybody, lol).

I have random interests in books, but my favorite reads are usually african diaspora literature, science fiction, victorian, mysteries, and nonfiction science, humanities, or world religion books. Don't really like urban fiction or dime a dozen romance novels [trite:], but i read them whenever i need to loose a few brain cells. I prefer books written before i was reached puberty to those currently being printed. Guess i have an old soul.
I also have random interests in life. I like to play dominoes, hatha yoga, coloring, trying new recipes, guitars, praying at the beach during sunsets, bbc america, the legend of zelda twilight princess, american history, blue nail polish, spoken word albums, meatless spaghetti, brightly colored fabrics, nollywood movies, documentaries, chasing toddlers, music in languages i can't understand, building things but not gardening, glitter, academic research, strawberry cheesecake, civic government, esoteric vampires and watching cartoons. :-)

I just found this group, and I think it's a very cool concept! I'd love to try a challenge, but I think I'll wait for the spring one since there's less than a month left of this one. I may try a few of the winter tasks for fun, but I'll start full-force for the spring tasks. I love to read a wide variety of genres, which is another reason why I like the idea of this group. Can't wait to join in!

This is a good time to join. The Spring Challenge tasks will be posted within a couple of weeks so you can start planning your strategy. I like how the Challenges make me look at other genres and authors. I've found some terrific books through the Challenge that I may not have found otherwise.
Have fun!

Books I read: I have been on a classics binge lately; my personal goal is reading all the top 100 books in the National Academic Quiz Tournament “You Gotta Know” list: http://www.naqt.com/YouGottaKnow/work... (my husband is a teacher, can you tell?). I went to high school and college in Turkey where Western classics were not a big part of the curriculum. Although I read a lot in those days, I steered towards other genres (lighter, I might add). Now I’m trying to catch up!
Other genres I read: mystery/thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi (especially post-apocalyptic and dystopian), historical fiction
Books I don’t read: chick lit, self-help

My name is Berta, I live in Wisconsin. I just found this group, and I am really excited to work on the Spring Challenge. I work full time, have 2 small children, and love to travel. I enjoy cooking, playing with my children, and of course, reading. I am looking forward to planning my "attack" on my list for Spring.

The challenges here sound really interesting, and though I'll be really busy- I'll try my best! I hope it'll make me branch out in my reading (or at the very least taking down some of my owned but unread books out of the way).

I'm Terri and I'm really looking forward to this challenge. I have been a book lover from the very beginning. When I was in 6th grade I read all of the Newbery Medal winners -- for fun!
I am the Lower School Librarian at a boys' preparatory school in Baltimore. I love my job, but I read A LOT of "boy friendly" books. (I think graphic novels will cause me to go from bifocals to trifocals!)
I am looking forward to my first grandchild being born in June. (I'm not sure how that happened since I am far too young to be a grandmother!) I am going to love having an excuse to read grown up books!

My name is Juli. I'm 27 and live in the central interior of BC Canada. I work for an aboriginal communications agency in one of our regional offices and look after our clients in the area and am our company's only staff writer.
My husband an I are just recently married, school and life took priority over wedding planning for several years. We have a 10 year old who keeps life fun and interesting.
I love reading but every since I was young, i would just re-read the same books over and over until the pages started falling out. I kept looking for recommendations and could never really find anything that I enjoyed. I was researching book sites on the internet and found GR... HEAVEN.
I added over 100 books to my TBR list and have re-committed to reading and found a love for it again. My son and I go to the public library weekly now and my new years resolution was to READ MORE this year.
Winter 2010 is my first challenge and I just focused on tackling my TBR list and am now seeing which ones line up with the challenge for some points =)
Hi.
I've recently joined GR and this group, both at the suggestion of my oldest daughter (Hi, Katy!). I'm somewhat of a workaholic, and also a quilter in my "free time," so even though I'm an "empty nester" I don't have as much time as I'd like for reading - but I've got a whole lot of books stacked up that I've been wanting to read, and lots of them work for the spring challenge! This will be fun!

My name is Beth and I live in New York. My husband and I both love to read (although not the same kind of books), and our apartment is a landscape of book piles...I am not sure I can complete this challenge, but am excited about giving it a try!

I have been fortunate to travel extensively, which is great. The biggest downfall to this is the lack of libraries; we have a great English bookstore in Seoul where we can buy used books. I often travel alone and books have helped me get through the awkward times that being alone can provide sometimes.
This will be my first challenge (Spring 2010), and though I don't expect to win any prizes, I hope it will encourage me to read more often.

The challenges I participated in were winter '08 and spring '09. I was out of the country for most of the summer ('09) and then I went back to school in the fall ('09), which prevented me from participating in those challenges.
My goal for this challenge is to just have fun. I'm going to read what I want to read. If the book I read fits a task - great; if not, I'll move on to the next book on my reading pile and try again.

My fave books are MANY and varied, but here's a taste: Pride and Prejudice (anything Austen, really), the Harry Potter series, The Pink Carnation series, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, the Thursday Next series, etc. (Believe me, there's a LOT more!)
I hope I can become very active in this group-- the idea of reading challenges to complete is RIGHT up my alley! I am on STUPID dial-up right now and have little free time but I will do my best to make time to post. I hope to talk to you all soon!

Welcome to the group!
I love Kavalier and Clay! Have you read Yiddish Policemen's Union?

Thanks to all of you who put the effort into creating these challenges. They look great!

No, I haven't read that yet! Thanks for the welcome!

I am also a member of the Busy as a Bee group and have read the discussions by other members in the group who have taken part in this challenge, so I thought I would join! I hadn't participated in any reading challenges until I joined BasB's year-long one this year, and I must say, I'm addicted! I am now eager to try my hand at a seasonal challenge :)

My name is Michelle, and I live in Kingston, PA. This week finally brought some signs of spring, which has motivated me.
I enjoy Star Trek novels, a number of YA novels (encouraged by my teenage daughter), and am currently reading Nicholas Sparks' The Choice.

I hope you enjoy the Challenge.

My hobbies are quilting, reading and anything techie. I rarely buy books. I am very fortunate that I live only about 2 blocks from our new million $$ library. I have a difficult time reading regular or paperback print so usually order everything either in LP or audio. Our library is in a network with a whole bunch of other libraries so I can usually get what I need delivered to my local libary. I LOVE my library.
I am currently reading 4 books. (My hubby says I am the Queen of Multitasking. I just discovered Goodreads this month and have been busy putting in my book list. (I am only up to the J's). Anyway I look forward to meeting you folks and sharing as well.
Sheila

My name is Isabell and I'm from Germany. I can't really say why, but I read mostly English novels, probably because most of my favorite authors write in English and most of the time I'm not satisfied with the translations, so I quit the translations and went straight to the original.
I'm 22 years old and at the moment I'm studying law at our local university. I'm still livign with my mom and our cat.
Some years ago I've discovered my love of audiobooks, which I since often prefer to the printed works. If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, just ask away.

Guys if you want to multiply your numbers to all of goodreads join this group http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3159... it's advertising!! send this to all in your friend's list and tell them to send it to their friend's friends untill all of goodreads is being advertised!

My name is Jaime. I'm 27 (nearly 28!) years old and live in St. Louis, MO. My dog Doc is named after a character from one of my favorite series The Lord of the Rings. ("Merriadoc - both my favorite hobbit and a personal ambition of mine!" That's how I like to explain his name to people. So, if you're wondering...yes, I'm a total nerd!)
I teach at an all girls high school which means I tend to have a lot more "recreational reading" time in the summer. I've never really kept a record of the books that I read; and I'm always looking for something new, so this challenge seems like a great idea for me.
I'd tell you more about myself, but I'm so eager to get started I'm going to have another look at the spring tasks! Talk to you soon!
Jaime

OK, of to decide what to read first.
Hi my name is Jamie I am 26 and I live in Maine. I just started using goodreads. And I love to read. I try to read 100 books a year. Right know I’m up to 23 I think. I always have a book close by so I can read when ever I want, which is not problem for me because I work at a small town library.
Look around this site I saw this group and it just sound like so much fun. I love to try different books and I love challenges so I think this is a group for me. So I’ll start right away.

I want to join the challenge but probably wont be as an active participant due to the stack of books I already have waiting for me to read at home along with the readings I have for my classes.

I've been a book addict my whole life.
I first discovered Challenges in January 2008 and have been pretty obsessed ever since. I'm taking the plunge and joining the Spring Challenge. This seems like a fun, enthusiastic group and I want to play!
Just printed out the list of tasks and will start posting forthwith!

I am brand new to both goodreads and this group.
My name is Jessie, I'm 21 and about to graduate from university here in England. I study Literature and History.
After 5 years of reading lots of classics and only assigned reading, I am really looking forward to reading some modern fiction, and choosing what to read myself!
I am going to join in with the summer challenge since I'm too late for the spring one.
Also, I have no friends on here and would like some, so please feel free to add me!
J

I just become a member of goodreads and I was looking for something I could do. I love to read and was looking for some way to keep my passion going. I am a 27 year old mother of 4 all 5 and under, who has lived in Utah her whole entire life and uses reading as a get away from everyday life. I know I started in the middle of a challenge but I think I will try my hardest in this one if not I will be looking forward to start the next challenge.

Anyhow, I'm 26, live in California, have been married for 5 years, have an 18-month-old little boy, got my degree in English, love dancing, photography, music, cooking, quilting, interior design, spending time with my family, & of course, reading.
I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I just joined goodreads.com and I was just meandering through the groups. Spring challenge is on!

As far as the "about me" portion, I live in Atlanta and I love all of the following things in no particular order:
fam & friends, drive-in movies, books/the kindle, summer, dogs, hummus, hockey, 80's movies, the mentalist, french bar soap, Aquaphor, Boston ferns, the beach, wild chinchillas, margarita pizzas, outdoor concerts, steaming hot decaf coffee any time of the day, reading in my papasan chair, roses and peonies, the scent of clean laundry, flip flops, watching whole seasons of TV on DVD, dolphins, and visiting the Martha Stewart aisle at Michael's. :)
One of my favorite books of all-time is The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. The best book I've read recently is Eye Contact by Cammie McGovern. I can't wait to get started on the challenge!
