Kazen Thank you for the characters, Bethany! I'll add them to the sheet when I get home.

And no one else freak out - these are for the awesome stash of books she brought with her, hehe. Everyone else can list character names as they turn in each book, no reason to declare them early. :)

eta: Bethany, if you know how to add a spoiler tag you can use that to hide the long list of you want. I'd you're not sure how to do that, no worries! :)

Heehee. Hugtackle is a wonderful word! I'm not sure I've ever heard it! <3

Catching up on posts. My nephew, Korbin, has a new fav thing which is "I want to chase you"...which means I'm exhausted from *literally* running around all evening. Worth it though! Also I think this is the first day since Wobble started where I have read zero pages! Unless you count finishing Feed at 1am this morning, but that was before I slept so I don't count it. ;)

Ahh... I was wondering why you didn't list Madeline (sp?) as a character! If you've seen the movie, I had a replica of her dark green dress made for my high school prom. Yeah...we went as vampires. With capes and everything.

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Bethany wrote:"I think, strategically, we want short words as much as possible, since bonus points are awarded for finishing words. That means more bonus points per book read for a 5 letter word than a 13 letter word. If/when we spin the wheel, there's a 55% chance that we'll get a word with equal or fewer letters, making spinning the wheel somewhat risky."

I'm getting different numbers here but I think it's just a typo. I got 65% chance of spinning a word with 5 or 6 letters. That's basically a 2 in 3 chance.

I think it's definitely worth spinning to try to get "tapirs" (our 100 pt bonus word) or a 5 letter word (3 in 10 chance). Also, it might be a good idea to respin earlier while we have a bunch of banked books. That way, if we get an 11, 12 or 13 letter word (1 in 5 chance), we can get through it quick & spin again. :)

Hello everyone,

I'm afraid I have some bad news about Olympics points :(

You know how we busted our butts to get those Distance throws done? Well, it turns out that while in the first rounds each throw counted separately, for bonus the entire round, 12 books, has to be completed. The confusion arose from wording in the spreadsheet and the rules - both the 12 book set and the 3 book throw were referred to as rounds. So I'm afraid that the two throws we read for won't get us any points for Olympics. :(

The mistake was all me and I'm so sorry that I messed it up. Ella, Lory, Bethany, Brianna, and Sam - you guys busted your butts to get those books in on time, and I apologize for not being able to use them in the way we planned. The silver lining is that now we can put those books towards Wheel, but that doesn't get you your time (or lost sleep) back.

Luckily the way Wheel is set up it's nearly impossible to mess up the spreadsheet, and I'll be keeping a sharp eye out for an similar issues going forward. Thanks for everything you do and your understanding... I'm so sorry. :(

Margaret | 456 comments I have a few books that will get us O and G letters - Cindy Gerard is one of my favourite authors :)

I am currently reading Tear You Apart by Megan Hart which has the letters R, A, and N, and two instances so far of the word pink. It is such an interesting story as the main character has synesthesia so she can taste and smell words. The writing is so descriptive in describing what this is like. It is also very ..umm... "adult" in certain parts of the story - a warning for our younger viewers :)

I should finish reading it by tomorrow. But, after that.... I will be back to reading around 2 books a week...

I am back at work on Monday after 2 awesome weeks of leave where I did nothing but sleep, craft and read ... I am going to have a very bad dose of Monday-itis :(

message 2045: by Kazen (last edited Jul 23, 2016 07:52AM) (new)

Kazen

The Wheelathon is underway!

We were able to use banked books to complete our word not once, not twice, but four times. The spreadsheet isn't showing it yet, but that's 360 points for us. Huzzah!

And all we need to keep the good times rolling (spinning?) is more books. The hardest letter to get by far has been O, so if you see a character by that name make a note! Authors and titles and things work as well - look at the Wheelathon Rules for a refresher.

Turning in books is just like for the other parts of Wobble but we ask that you add a character list so we don't miss any possible letters. And let us know if you find the word "pink" in the text!

Even though there isn't a strict book requirement like there was for Olympics, you are still expected to read around your original estimate, the minimum being roughly book a week. If you're gone too long we'll start wondering about'cha, so do stop in to chat, see what we need, and ooh and ahh over all the pretty books! :)

Read long, read hard, and goooo Red Pandas! :D
