Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments So do the arms have to be bare, unclothed arms or are any human arms acceptable?

I found a book that has "Iron" in the title, but it's 300 pages of tiny print, and I'm not sure about the likelihood of getting through that, since I've gotta work tomorrow...

God, I wish my library was on actual shelves rather than in difficult-to-plunder boxes.

message 1903: by Kazen (last edited Jul 21, 2016 06:29PM) (new)

Kazen Bethany - even if you could finish the Iron book in time, I think the chances of us getting both a distance book and an arm in time are low. (Unless you guys want to prove me wrong, of course! Hehe)

Arms can be clothed but you must be able to see the entire arm, right down to the fingers. No hiding hands in pockets or arms from the elbows down, etc.

Ok, and to be clear, the bonus books have to be relatively recent, and not from the backlog of books we read way earlier this month?

For Distance and Title Relay (which we're not doing), yes.

PS - I don't know if you know, but we can use any books you started after June 17th, even if you finished them before July. This challenge doesn't follow months :)

That's too bad-- I definitely have some arms on books I read a while ago.

I could also serve as a backup and read a short arm book, rather than an iron book.

I may be taking this too seriously though...

Kazen Bethany wrote: "I may be taking this too seriously though..."

Hehehe, not at all! As long as you remember that this is a challenge that makes reading more fun you can be as serious as you like. :)

Some of us are a little less serious, though....

Arm backup is good, reading whatever catches your fancy is good - you are good, my dear! :D

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments How does the page number swap bonus thingy work?

message 1911: by Kazen (new)

Kazen We take a book with say 250 pages, and we swap those numbers around so it now has 520 pages. Ta-da! We earned these bonuses earlier in the challenge, and you can see them in the main Wobble spreadsheet, in the Omni-sack Bonus tab. :)

message 1912: by Kazen (new)

Kazen A little tidbit of good news for everyone:

Now that our books have been put in the official spreadsheet we moved up over a dozen places in the standings and are now standing at 9th in the entire challenge! Ninth! Wooooo!

Of course things will change as other teams finalize their spreadsheets (and we read more books!) but I wanted to let you guys know so we can bask in our glory. :) If you want to see the current standings the main Wobble Spreadsheet link is on the first page of this thread.

Well done, Red Pandas! I'm so proud of us! :D

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Wooo, today went totally off the rails! A simple chiropractic appt for my partner took 4x as long as planned (waiting on xray interpretation, then squeezing in for another meeting after that, hitting rush hour traffic on the way home, car fire on the freeway, etc). Got reading done while waiting though, as well as some delicious creole lunch at a new restaurant, nomnomnom. I still have 18 hours and a little less than 100 pgs of Feed left (loving it, btw!) so I'll knock it out tonight or in the morning. Woo-hoo!

The Magic Wheel has been spun for a new word!

Your word is DRAGON!

Bonuses:
• pink - Color found in Text

message 1924: by Kazen (last edited Jul 22, 2016 01:59AM) (new)

Kazen

First things first - there's half a day left in Olympics! Olympic countdown here. So if you're reading a book for Olympic bonus don't worry about this, keep going! ;)

But for the rest of us... the spreadsheet was just updated and we spun for our first Wheel word - Dragon! Huzzah!

This is a great word because it's short, so maybe we can complete it many times and pile on the bonus, hehehe. We can't enter books for this word until Wheel starts in 24 hours or so (Wheel countdown here)... but that doesn't stop us from planning! Hehe.

Good news - there are many more of us than letters in "dragon". :D So if you don't claim a letter right away that's perfectly fine - read books that make you happy and we'll put them in reserve. There will be another post before Wheel starts about what counts, but go ahead and read the Wheelathon Rules to get a feel for what letters we can use. (It's a bunch!)

If you have any questions read those rules first - the mods have done a great job anticipating possible concerns. The captains are in a weird place at the moment, both finishing up Olympics and starting Wheel, so our brains (or at least, Kazen's brains) can get a little mushy. ;)

That's it for the moment... know that if you're reading you're on the right track. Yea Red Pandas!

LOL Ray - you read my mind... I am going to do that too!

And hopefully it will be in a book that will match on the spell-it-out letters... it shouldn't be too hard as those letters look easy so far :)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Okay, I found 3 in the books I have banked.

1. Winner Takes All: "Frinel narrowed his watery pink eyes"
options: DRAGN
characters; darren, robert, mrs. atalla, rachel goldberg, mrs nkomo.
author: rayner
series: Doctor Who Quick Reads

2. Z. Rex: "glossy pink lips pouted doubtfully"
options: AG
character: Adam Adlar
narrator: Graeme Malcolm (edition 10726475)

3. When Did You See Her Last? "Flammarion is a tall pink bird"
options: DA ?R? (see below)
character: dashiell qwerty
series: All the Wrong Questions
(translator: Sabine Roth edition 18994516)

The FAQs say we can use the narrator without listening to the audiobook. Can we use the translator without reading a translated version?

ETA: These are just the 3 / 6 banked books that have "pink". The others offer some letters too but it is sleep time. :)

Perfect! With these three choices we can basically consider the first color task done, I think. I'm still in Olympic brain but I'll add this to the spreadsheet soon-ish :)

"The FAQs say we can use the narrator without listening to the audiobook. Can we use the translator without reading a translated version?"

I have an idea of how to answer this but I want to make sure so I have a question in to the mods, please hold :)

eta: And this post number is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song, yeaaaaaaa
(...when I'm this random it might be better for me to stay away from the spreadsheet, actually....)

message 1936: by Kazen (new)

And it's not just titles! Authors first and last names, even Characters' first, last, and nicknames can be used. Lots and lots of options, especially with letters as common as these. :D

Kazen Tammie - yea books! I just want to make sure - these are possible future books and not banked ones, yes?

Double Dare is good for those three letters, which gives us nice leeway. And who knows, as you read you may come across a character that fits another ;) I'm double checking the "pinkened" in the staff room, just in case my hunch is wrong, hehe.

The Wedding Gift is good for D and A, but I'm not sure I see the G...? Only the first letter of the title works, I'm afraid.
