Yw. Cool, let me know. It's been on my TBR list for a bit. Seems a little depressing, but still fascinating.

I don't know about the hotel, but I went to the gardens- they're amazing! The only problem was it was so hot during the day, I thought I would melt and collapse :P

Kazen Those are books that the mods are reading - we're still a little under goal so we'll be able to use some of their books as a boost. It's the mods' way of leveling the playing field some. :)

That's super nice of them! :D

BTW - I don't remember who mentioned a reading speed test, but I took a couple online and I'm around average, ~240 wpm. But I'm willing to Fight Club it up, if the team needs / wants me to.

Not sure if ya'll noticed but the books read for Fight Club can be used for another Olympics task (once the book is finished). Maybe some folks who are planning on longer books for Chariot or Page Jumping will want to "double-up" and do a shorter Fight Club at the same time..?

Hmm.. Then, can we swap Heat 1 Leg 1 with Heat 2 Leg 1? Since H2L1 is finished?

Kazen Ray - I love that you're thinking ahead about sprints, but you're about five steps ahead of us... Give us a little time to catch up, k? ;)

I'll swap legs from heats if need be, but without three full legs we're still not going anywhere. Patience, grasshopper. :)

Oh and I don't think I understand event 4 and especially since we aren't supposed to discuss...something(not sure what) :/ I'm afraid to even ask questions. lol
About the coaching books, I've found 2 that I really want to read but i've kept on hold. Can we read those books for both coaching and page jumping? because somewhere i read that they must justify the MMA theme enough and while they mention MMA on the book blurb, how will I know if there's enough of it without reading the book??

Did that^^ make sense? i think I'm jumping ahead of time. aren't I?

Yeah any book u read that is more than 100 pages (among the other wobble rules) can be added to the wheel round. So if u want to read something, go ahead and then post it here once u r done.

Hi Ella, I had a look at the rules for Fight Club and it says that the style of fighting has to be Wrestling, Boxing or MMA (there's a link in the rules that lists out a whole heap of Martial Arts) and that the fighting has to be pivotal to the story, e.g. main character is a fighter, go regularly to see fights etc.

I hope this helps?

Maybe post the books you are thinking of reading and us captains can give you a definite 'yes' or 'no' on the MMA qualification.

And, yes, the book can be used for coaching and page jumping - the same book just can't be used for both the fight and the coaching :)
Book used for sprinting can be used for page jumping

Questions are fine! I'm just trying to give 24 hours between info dumps to make sure everyone processes all the info. ;)

eta: It seems like everyone wants to talk about the Fight Club event - I'll right up an explanation and post it in the next few hours (dinner is going to happen in there somewhere, hehe).

eta2: By my understanding a book can be used for the sprint and page jumping - read it during the sprint, count it towards PJ. Coaching books are their own thing, and cannot be mixed with PJ. Event rules here.

Like others have said, it's not quite time to start the Event 5 book yet. (I'll post a big announcement when it is!) If you'd like to read a different book in the meantime you may, but the book will count towards Wheel, not Olympics.

message 1146: by Kazen (new)

Kazen

We're still having spreadsheet update issues but we have the okay to move on! Meaning...

Event Five is now OPEN! Yeaaaa!

This means different things for different people, as everyone is in a slightly different spot progress-wise. Follow the flow chart below to see what you should do. :)

Do you have any books left in Event One (Relay)?
YES - read those :)
NO - continue...

Have you read a book for Event Five (Chariot)?
NO - read that! :)
YES - ...none of you are here yet. ;)

Your best friend (other than your captains, of course!) is the spreadsheet. A more in-depth "What to Do, When" list can be found on the O - Master page, and you can see what books you've pledged on each event planning page. If something doesn't make sense feel free to ask here! We're coming up on the time when us captains are either sleeping or at work, but we'll answer back as soon as we can.

Also - because of the spreadsheet glitch Event One, Heat One looks incomplete, but we've done the reading so we have permission to continue.

Read like the wind, everyone! :D

Whoo Hoo and just at the right time! I get to take my Event 5 book on vacation.

I actually read quite fast when I have the time, its getting the time to read that is hard for me.

I also asked yesterday about In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware for Page Jumping. It has 352 pages so I think it will help as one of the longer ones? Will take it with me if it will work.

Off to find my copy of The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg for event 5

Later all! 8-)
